Out of curiosity ABD, I remember that you've been doing a chronological watch. Did you randomly skip ahead to WM X-8 for some reason? I assume that's what you're referencing with Arn.

I'm always very interested to see your posts because you have to be something of a unicorn to be living out this whole era as unspoiled as possible.

I have not skipped ahead and will not!

The spinebuster that prompted my comment was from Arn on Buff Daddy after the Ric Flair vs Roddy Piper match at the Great American Bash 99

I was under the impression Arn had a very sensitive neck and didnt seem to be involving himself in matches physically at that point in time so to see him nail that one on Bagwell made me fistpump to myself lol

This is worth a rewatch

The gimmick is hilarious and they really cast it well!

They really ****ed up the Master P and No Limit Soldiers angle imo. Konann and Rey seemed to be ****ing hot at the time and then WCW just lump them together as a Master P vehicle?

Also when a seemingly conciliatory Curt gave Master Ps entourage a custom made cowboy hat and they nailed him and stomped the hat. Instant unintentional face turn LMFAO at WCW

Master P was Roman Reigns before his time. Could get any opponent a pop just by showing up. I still remember the West Texas Rednecks, but my mind had completely blocked out why that gimmick came about.

wow. I was prepared to laugh at whatever came up but that was unexpected. I don't remember that at all. Hard to forget Mick's though.

Anyone else watch the first part of the Mae Young Classic? Matches were pretty decent imo, and the last one was great.

Watching an ECW weekly show from March of 1994 and this guy just got announced as the ayatollah of rock n roll-a.

Nice.

Wasn't Jericho, was it?

No, it was some other dude that I only know from early ECW shows.

Like, EARLY ECW. Tommy Dreamer and Taz are still wearing weird outfits.

I'll add his name later when I remember it.

The name is from Mad Max 2, I think, anyway. The one with the bad guy in the demolition outfit.

Gotta check it out.

The guy from Mad Max 2 that Demolition stole their look from is Humungus, the wrestler referred to as the ayatollah of rock n roll-a was the Rockin' Rebel. Billed as an NWA wrestler in Eastern Championship Wrestling (we haven't gotten to the name change yet).

But like I said, my memory is that nickname is actually from Mad Max 2 as well, although I could be wrong.

Yeah it’s from Mad Max. The character is called Lord Humungus.

Rockin Rebel was a giant piece of **** btw.

Oh ****. This is the guy that killed his wife and then himself at the beginning of this summer?!

I wish I didn't know that.

Annoying that Hogan is not coming out to Voodoo Child after his 99 face turn

Even more annoying is they are over dubbing with the NWO black and white theme which by now is associated with glorified jobbers like Stevie Ray and Virgil

The NWO split thing was horrible btw, man WCW is really turning to **** about now, no storylines seem to make much sense

Im still going to watch it till it dies...

Kevin Nash still coming out to Wolfpac music when he is the only one seemingly left in the faction apart from him hooking up with Sid and Macho Man who have their own vibe going?

One thing I did enjoy recently was Kidmans botched Shooting Star Press

You weren’t getting Voodoo Child on the Network in the first place, were you?

No this month in 99 is first time I have watched matches where Hogan should have it

Commentators are referring to the song as NWO blares and I feel shortchanged

Its kinda interesting though to see them unravel and make silly decisions

Another dumb move, reuniting Harlem Heat in July 99. Booker T looked to be going along beautifully rising up the card while Stevie Ray being the NWO black and white leader was quite rightly dying a slow death

In 1991, Bobby Heenan retires and hands the reins of Mr. Perfect over to brutal cheap-heat magnet The Coach (John Tolos, not Coachman).

It's understandable to put Hennig, or anyone, with Heenan, since Heenan was the GOAT and would enhance anyone's presentation, and Heenan and Hennig were indeed awesome together. That said, Hennig was a good talker who pretty obviously didn't NEED a manager, so if it wasn't going to be Heenan then you don't need to scramble to give him just any ****ing manager in the world.

My best guess is that they did it to protect Hennig's status as a heel in order to help him put the likes of Bret Hart over without any mixed feelings from the crowd. I don't know that I necessarily saw fans getting behind him as a face, so that's a flaw in the theory, but I really can't understand the rationale for Coach otherwise.

Worth it simply for the "he hit The Coach! A man wearing glasses!" line from SS 91.

My hypothesis is that Perfect would've eventually gotten over as Bret did simply because the audience can appreciate a great wrestler even if he is arrogant. This would force him to turn face. ofc you mention this, I just disagree that he'd have stayed a heel for while without someone making noise for him outside the ring.

The thing is that he flew solo very successfully as a heel without Heenan for a couple of years. Heenan only joined him to help him in his quest for Warrior's vacated IC Title, then they stuck together for a while. That's why I'm surprised that they suddenly felt that having a manager for him was such a necessity. He was without Heenan for longer than he was with him.

Interesting.

Also interesting, I'd totally forgotten his run with The Genius pre-Bobby. But he did go an entire year with the moniker of "Mr. Perfect" before getting him. Perhaps just because he didn't get enough heat? It seems the most logical answer.
