Lol yeah the Rocky suck chants were and are real hate

Nice vid

I kinda knew WCW lose the plot at some stage from some of the comments around here and the fact they dont exist anymore but I gotta watch the whole train wreck haha

I know Goldberg has a streak and he had a bit if a low key beginning which is being built up nicely, I think he has won about 6 in row so far

idk if you're a fan of TLF but if you can stand them I'd highly recommend listening to the WCW shows while you go from Starrcade 97-end. There are only a few shows that are covered but there's some great comedy and information in the downfall. I believe they've covered:
Starrcade 97
Slamboree 98
Starrcade 98
Starrcade 99
New Blood Rising (a 2000 show)
Starrcade 2000

I get the impression that ABD is trying to avoid spoilers to whatever extent is realistic, so that would be my one hesitation in recommending TLF to him. They'll talk ahead months and years of whatever show they're covering.

Yah, Im trying to avoid spoilers as much as possible really, hard to do that especially in regards to the top stars since I always seem to bump into things when reading reviews of some shows

I will favourite that TLF site and go through them once WCW are destroyed (which will be another yr and a half's viewing for me at this rate lol)

I see that we had some budding conspiracy theorists in the crowd at SummerSlam '89.

Despite the fact that Vince had publicly admitted to his company being a work before this point, wrestlers still tended to be old school in the late 80s and respect kayfabe to the point of not publicly fraternizing with on-screen rivals, etc.

I wonder if Randy Savage and Elizabeth, during the period of kayfabe animosity from 1989 through 1991, tried to avoid being seen together in public.

Randy got a legal separate to keep kayfabe alive.

This music situation on the network is really ****ing me off

The feels when DDP comes out are not as awesome as they should be since he is obviously over, but his dubbed song is so passive. I never heard his real rip off song in real tine but listened to it on yootubez and its awesome

I went back and started watching WM4 again and the ****ers have dubbed over Rick Rudes geberice theme, wtf for?

I agree that DDP's dubbed music is a lot worse than what his music was, which is saying something since his real music annoyed me.

Maybe I'm not remembering right, but wasn't DDP's music just some random stuff made to half sound like Nirvana, but not really Nirvana? Figured WWE owned rights to all WCW music. ECW...that's a sadder rewatch story.

Yeah.

DDP theme : Smells Like Teen Spirit
Renegade : Ultimate Warrior

His theme was so damn close to Teen Spirit that I'm surprised they got away with it.

I feel like WCW would have used this guy as their lawyer if Nirvana ever sued them

Ah ok I thought Rudes theme was original for some reason, The stripper was released back in 1958, not sure how long before it can be used freely. I see some 60s artists just struck an agreement to vet royalties up to 2033

This music thing sure is annoying though, surely Vince could strike some deals

I wish he would, but realistically there's practically no return on that investment and Vince would basically just be lighting money on fire out of the goodness of his heart so that those of us watching the archives could enjoy it a bit more. There's just no possible way IMO that he would profit from spending money on restoring all original themes.

I still don't understand why streaming services pay royalties on music that they purchased the rights to at the time.

Wish I could shed some light, but Entertainment Law was excruciatingly boring even by law school standards and I stopped paying attention in short order.

The way I remember media law or whatever they called it, you essentially buy a rights "package."

So like bottom tier is the rights to the notes of the music, but you have to get someone to play it (like cover versions), next tier buys the real version but you have limited use (maybe you can use it for a live first time broadcasts only), next level gets permanent implantation into your movie or whatever.

...caveat-- I could be remembering this all wrong. Like he said, IP law is incredibly boring.

The bottom tier reminds me of every TV drama of the 80's. I always wonder s why they had covers of music that was popular at the time

On "A Flair for the Gold", an*interview*segment hosted by*Ric Flair, in front of a live audience at*Clash of the Champions*XXIV, Sting and Smith were confronted by Sid and Harlem Heat, demanding to know the identity of their new partner. Sting exclaimed, "All I have to say is, our partner is going to shock the world, because he is none other than the Shockmaster!" The camera then zoomed in on a section of the set where two torches set off a small pyrotechnics explosion in front of a*sheetrock*wall. With a new costume consisting of a*Star Wars*Stormtrooperhelmet painted purple and covered in silver glitter, a pair of jeans and a large, black, puffy vest, Ottman attempted to make a dramatic entrance by crashing through the wall.

While making his entrance, Ottman tripped over a piece of lumber that was framing the set, causing him to fall forward through the wall with his helmet falling off and sliding across the floor. His face accidentally exposed, he scrambled to put the helmet back on as Vicious, restraining laughter, exclaimed "Oh, God!" Ottman donned the helmet and got back on his feet, shifting his weight and dusting his hands off in an attempt to shrug off the gaffe while Harlem Heat's*Kole*asked, "Who is this mother****er?" and Smith exclaimed "He fell flat on his arse!". Both of these comments were audible to the live audience and television viewers, but were*bleeped*in future showings of the footage by*WWE. Ottman then began gesturing toward his would-be opponents several seconds before a menacing gravelly off-screen voice (provided by*Ole Anderson) started to threaten Sid and Vader. Sid Vicious reacted in rage to Shockmaster, and the broadcast focused on Vicious for the duration of the voiceover. The announcers said nothing as the segment ended.

****ing hilarious reading, poor Tugboat

This is similar to what I've seen, there's also exclusive rights obv. I had to do a IP law course for my degree(it was 100% focused on digital media) and have licensed music for my own work and can confirm it's extremely boring. Most laws don't move fast enough with the times and technology so there's a lot of grey areas. Those WCW rights are probably for live broadcasts and home video distribution because streaming didn't exist back then.

LKJ is right though, makes no sense for Vince to buy the rights when the return just isn't there. The lack of themes sucks but I'd be surprised if it was a deal breaker on getting the network for anyone and that's the bottom line.

Shockmaster is so good for a bunch of reasons outside of the botch and helmet.

Sting's delivery of "none other than" which I mimic all the time.

Hearing Flair say "oh god" after the botch.

Stevie Ray "who is this mother****er?"

Shockmaster saying "come on you wanna piece of me? you wanna piece of me? come get me, come after me sid, I'm ready" completely unconvincingly.

"Until then hahahahaha"

Topped off by Sid yelling at the crowd to shut up while jazz music is playing which is in this version of the vid -

I will always love Shockmaster. Beach Blast is up there as well.
