Re: **WWE NETWORK THREAD**

I had remembered GG from WCW and he just sort of wore a pair of bike shorts, sort of a ridiculous outfit in it's own way, but yeah WTF on his WWF outfit. Also, I think he had the reputation of being so uncoordinated he just ended up hurting a lot of people. Yeah, for being so tall he had a decent body. He was also a pretty well established basketball player so you'd think there's be some coronation but LDO wrestling is a whole other set of skills.

Question/Observation about Saturday Night Main Events. I've been watching a lot of these because they had some pretty mouthwatering contests, in theory. However, I noticed that the match you would think would be the Main Event was usually one of the first matches of the night. At first you could say it's a call back to the old old days of wrestling where they made the biggest match first because hey you really had no idea they'd go, but by the late 80's early 90's they weren't really doing this. Anyway, just sort of weird we'd start with Hulk Hogan defending his title then the Mountie to close things off.

Re: **WWE NETWORK THREAD**

Saturday Night Main Events were on late night, starting later than the end of Raw usually (11:30 eastern), so they put the main event first or in the middle as so many people would be asleep by the end of the show.

Wasn't SNME on at like 10:30pm as a replacement for random Saturday Night Lives?

Re: **WWE NETWORK THREAD**

It was on at about the same time as SNL in any case, which also tends to have midcard level segments at the end of the show.

This makes a lot of sense, thanks.

I mean they're are a few stinkers but a lot of them are really good shows.

Re: **WWE NETWORK THREAD**

Ive had to stop reading LKJs Meltzer 4 star thread once he got up to 1993 so to avoid spoilers as Ive watched barely any wrestling from either WWF or WCW from that year on up to now

But I would imagine the Paul Orndorff vs Cactus Jack falls count anywhere match at Superbrawl 1993 was 4 stars plus and the strap match of Vader vs Sting was up there too as they were amazing

I sorta knew Mick Foley who plays Cactus was known for taking bumps and man he didnt disappoint in this match

I especially loved how Orndorff threw him over and on top of 2 crowd guard rails somehow at the same time and even suplexed his back square on a rail at one point too, those bumps looked so painful

Vaders welts on his back from the strap early on in the strap match were brutal, really enjoyed the match overall with the villian Vader going over clean

Superbrawl 1993 was a great show

Vader is my new fave wrestler, didnt see him at all growing up

WCW was so much more realistic than the WWF at this time its crazy, WWF is so cheesy in comparison

Wasn't big on the Cactus-Orndorff match at all. Absolutely loved Sting-Vader though, gave it ****3/4.

Re: **WWE NETWORK THREAD**

I watched a Jim Cornette interview which touched on the subject of Vader getting buried in WWF due to Shawn Michaels not wanting to mix it up with him, hopefully thats the only disappointment to come...

He was ****ing awesome, its a pity there are no clashes or standard WCW programs on the network for 1993 as Im super keen to see some more of his matches

He's insanely awesome in japan/wcw. Then he goes to Vince. Then he dies on the way back to his home planet. He should have been an on top heel another 5 years and feuded with Austin

His shoot-style matches against Nobuhiko Takada are very well regarded. He was actually still WCW champion for their first match. The matches were in the UWFi, Takada's shoot-style organization that claimed to be "real," compared to other pro wrestling. Of course, it was just as pre-determined as regular pro wrestling. Just stiffer and more real looking (e.g., no running of the ring ropes or obvious jumping into your opponent's throw). Shoot-style is not for every wrestling fan.

1st match:

2nd match:

3rd match:

Re: **WWE NETWORK THREAD**

Cornette just talked about Vader on a recent episode of his podcast. According to Cornette, Vader used to complain about every little thing especially injuries to Vince and everybody in the office, and it got to the point Vince would roll his eyes just hearing his name. He also got in a physical altercation in the Middle East and got detained.

Re: **WWE NETWORK THREAD**

Steve Austin had a podcast episode where he interviewed Vader.

IIRC, his friend encouraged him to get into the altercation in the Middle East, but the host of the show wasn't in on the joke.

Re: **WWE NETWORK THREAD**

Just watched Mankind winning the title from The Rock when Austin comes out and hits Rock with the chair. I'll be honest, watching that memory gives me the same feeling I get when watching youtube clips of my favorite teams winning "the big one," and the like.

Since that match I can't think of many other moments in wrestling that really did it for me like that. I think CM Punk winning the title from Cena in Chicago was way up there, but - like the Rock-Mankind match, it's because the crowd is going absolutely nuts.

Off-Topic but whatever, i'm going down memory lane, the biggest/loudest sports reaction I ever got to be apart of live was a Christmas Eve game between The Bucs and ATL when Vick still played for ATL - If I recall, it's the game where the ATL coach (Mora?) got in trouble for using a cellphone on the sideline. Anyway. ATL is driving, and has a FG shot to try to win the game, and the Bucs blocked it. The place went bananas, and I was just taking it all in.

In short, I can't imagine what it would have been like to be in that crowd the night Mankind won (tape delay or not) or some of the other big moments from that era of wrestling.

My loudest reaction was The Sharks beating the wings in game 5 of the 94 playoffs and going back to the Joe up 3-2. ****ing insanity. My ears were ringing like I had been to a concert, all from crowd noise alone

Will always cherish being on the floor for Summerslam 02' and the incredibly energy during Lesnar/Rock with the massive pop Lesnar got when he hit the F5 and won the belt.

Re: **WWE NETWORK THREAD**

In my excitement, it seemed I was suggesting the Bucs were my team, I was actually just invited to the game last second, but still remember the feeling of the crowd.

My teams are the Redsk....I mean Washington Area Football Team, Capitals, Orioles and Wizards, so I don't have a ton of those moments even watching on TV, lol.

The most disappointing feeling I've ever had live was when The Rangers beat the Capitals in Triple Overtime. If I recall the game got over in the midnight hour, and the metro was delayed another 45 min or so and it was hot and nasty and it was just a bunch of sad people with the occasional whooping it up Rangers fan.

I'll have to check out Brock/Rock today, that match came during my down period.

I was at Raw (or maybe Smackdown) in Montreal for the 10+ minutes ovation for Hogan... That was amazing.
