That answer is simple. You do it now, because it means more eyes on the product. Which time period is going to get more viewers? It’s now, and I’m guessing it isn’t close.
I know this isn’t the best comparison, but think back to Wrestlemania 14. If you remember on TLF they talked about what it cost for Tyson to show up, and what it meant for WWF’s bottom line. They surmised that without Tyson, they would have made some money on WM that year, but for what it cost for Tyson, it would only mean they break even, but in breaking even they got a hell of a lot more people to tune in each week leading up and more people to buy the event. In the long run it made better sense to break even in the short term.
Now like I said, it’s not the best comparison, but I think the point is there.
