Here are some of the first round match-ups to discuss and vote on; hopefully I can release a new set of matches every 2-3 days but allow the discussion to continue on previous match-ups for a little bit longer than that (maybe up to a week if it's still ongoing). I haven't done any "seeding" necessarily on these, but I will take the votes into consideration when matching up for the second and following rounds. I won't include a synopsis with the match-ups mainly because some of the match-ups I'm not familiar with, but will give some kind of recap of the ones I do in a separate post.

Ric Flair/Ricky Steamboat vs. Randy Orton/Christian

The Freebirds/The Von Erichs vs. Booker T/Chris Benoit

Bryan Danielson/Nigel Mcguinness vs. Tito Santana/Greg Valentine

Tully Blanchard/Magnum TA vs. Ted DiBiase/Jim Duggan

Legion of Doom/Demolition vs. The Moondogs/Jerry Lawler and Jeff Jarrett

The Sheik/Bobo Brazil vs. Razor Ramon/1-2-3 Kid

The Funks/The Briscos vs. Nick Bockwinkel/Curt Hennig

Chris Jericho/Dean Malenko vs. Jimmy Snuka/Don Muraco

Flair/Steamboat
Freebirds/Von Erichs
Danielson/McGuinness
Tully/Magnum
Moondogs/Lawler & Jarrett
Sheik/Brazil
Funks/Briscos
Jericho/Malenko

I never found LOD/Demos to be much of a feud after all the anticipation.

not voting on the ones i'm not sure of.

can't vote for flair/steamboat since it wasn't really a feud as much as a series of great matches.
when i think of uswa the first thought in my mind is Freebirds/Von Erichs and booker/benoit isn't even close
mcguinness/danielson was almost a parallel of flair/steamboat so voted for the actual feud that was valentine/santana
i think auto putting in blanchard/magnum is a mistake if you don't know the dibiase/duggan rivalry from mid-south. i've never watched any mid-south but i've read tons and tons about this rivalry so i'm not voting on it because it seems incredibly close from what i've read.
as TN said, the LOD/Demos sucked after lots of anticipation
i know nothing of bobo/sheik aside from the fact they did feud.
can't speak on either funks/briscos or bock/perfect
jericho/malenko was pretty meh aside from a couple good segments. snuka/muraco brought hate into everything they did with each other.

Flair Steamboat is not only a great set of matches spread out over more than 15 years. It was a great clash of styles (The soft spoken nice guy family man vs. the limousine Riding, fast talking womanizer) and was not just one but several well built up feuds. It had a real life element as well, as the two were often seen as the best two workers around while they were squaring off in the ring.

The Freebirds/The Von Erichs vs. Booker T/Chris Benoit

Maybe the best old school region vs region feud that really needs to be brought back into wrestling somehow. When CM Punk was walking out through the crowd before he attacked that fan, I was thinking to myself "The Freebirds never would have considered doing that when they were heels."

Bryan Danielson/Nigel Mcguinness vs. Tito Santana/Greg Valentine

Not a huge fan of either feud by found the first more enjoyable.

Tully Blanchard/Magnum TA vs. Ted DiBiase/Jim Duggan

One of the best weasel type heel vs mega face feuds ever. Tully could always say just the right thing and sell just the right way to get the fans even more behind Magnum.

Legion of Doom/Demolition vs. The Moondogs/Jerry Lawler and Jeff Jarrett

The Sheik/Bobo Brazil vs. Razor Ramon/1-2-3 Kid

The Funks/The Briscos vs. Nick Bockwinkel/Curt Hennig

Chris Jericho/Dean Malenko vs. Jimmy Snuka/Don Muraco
Abstaining for now on the final four. Definitely would vote for either feud in the last two mathups over either feud in the 5th and 6th matchups

LOD and Demolition had a feud that actually went somewhere? I thought by the time they went to do it, Bill Eadie was already on his way out and Demolition was a shell of their former selves. I thought the feud just sort of fizzled out without even really happening. Then Demolition got a jobber entrance at WM VI before jobbing to a Japanese team and never being seen again.

I need to read up/watch stuff on Moondogs/Lawler and Jarrett, but I assume just by default that it's better.

Well, props to this guy for uploading every part of the Moondogs/Jarrett and Lawler feud - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lxifl5TM0G4 - and it's sort of cool to look at as a time capsule, but I got to the end of part 9 (of 24 I believe) and sort of shrugged and stopped watching. It won feud of the year but it really doesn't grab me.

Here's a match of LOD vs. Demolition - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dbqY3U8_Wn4 - they never so much as fought on PPV, except on opposite sides of Survivor Series teams one time in 1990. There just wasn't much to this feud; they turned Demolition heel to make it work, they never got a ton of heat, they randomly threw them back in with Mr. Fuji just to instruct the fans, "No, seriously, they're bad guys now"...from there, they went out with a whimper.

Voting for the Moondogs v. Jarrett/Lawler feud just by default. I think they should be cannon fodder next round.

Going with Flair/Steamboat over Orton/Christian. Both had pretty bare-bones storylines that were basically good enough to justify great series of matches. Obviously the matches in Flair/Steamboat win the day, since we won't still be talking about Orton/Christian in 22 years. Orton/Christian was great though.

Give me Freebirds/Von Erichs in a walk. As moorobot alluded to, this feud had so much heat that the Freebirds legitimately feared for their safety on a number of occasions. Booker/Benoit had a very nice set of matches obviously, but they don't compare in this at all.

Need to do more research to vote on the other matchups.

Abstaining on the others for lack of info. Felt the Funks/Briscoes vs. Bockwinkel/Hennig was the toughest call of the ones I voted on.

I know I haven't gotten around to being able to comment on the matches I haven't voted on, but I'm still interested.

This board is quickly turning into the Merv Griffin set from that Seinfeld episode, so it may only be a small handful of us who care. Still worth it for the discussion IMO.

I'm gonna be away until Saturday and I want to do some research, so my votes will probably be in on Sunday. I will make a case for the feuds I nominated too (just Sheik vs. Bobo from this set I think).

Hogan/Piper over Punk/Regal by miles. The revisiting of this feud in WCW was awful, but the early 80's WWF feud was great.

nWo v. WCW certainly has to win out over Jericho/Goldberg as well. Jericho/Goldberg had the backstage fight, so there was legitimate heat, but there isn't really any argument for it over nWo v. WCW as on-screen rivalries go.

I imagine I'll vote Midnight Express/Rock 'n Roll Express over the WCW feud, but honestly I don't know enough about the other one yet to lock in a vote on it.

Abstaining on the others. Even though I loved Sullivan/Benoit (nothing like a real-life affair to heat up a rivalry!) I know nothing about Rikidozan/Blassie so can't make a fair vote.

Midnight/Rock n' Roll rivalry could be a serious sleeper in this tournament.

Sullivan booked Benoit to share hotel rooms with Nancy to sell the angle as not being kayfabe. This of course led to her actually leaving him for Benoit. I like the joke that people throw about that Kevin Sullivan booked his own divorce.
