I have been thinking for a while that I want to do another watch/rewatch and ranking project like I and others did with Wrestlemania. The problem is that I don't really have any interest in doing another series of 30 shows that run upwards of 4 hours, so what do I do? I figured the best idea is to do a Royal Rumble match thread. At most the match is 90 minutes which is tons better than a whole show, and who doesn't love and look forward to the Rumble match every year.

With that said I'm checking to see if anyone else would have interest in tackling this with me, or if not, is it something you would at least read along as I posted it?

I'd be interested. Of course I'd read along but I think I'd be interested in watching at least 88/89 and giving thoughts. I watched the 88 event dozens of times as my parents had the VHS from taping it off of USA and it was one of the only wrestling tapes I had but haven't seen in 20+ years. I don't think I've ever seen the 89 Rumble.

Side note: the Rumble's been pretty blah since 2007 with the exception of 2008 and maybe 2010. Sad!

I hear you. I first bought the Network on HoF night before WM 30. After that was over, the very first thing I watched was Royal Rumble '88. I hadn't seen it since it aired live but for whatever reason that show always stuck with me. More importantly the Dino Bravo bench press thing was what I remembered most. I'm still convinced Bentura only added 2 lbs of pressure so the World Record should have stood.

I also agree with your sentiments about recent Rumble matches. The ones I've seen since coming back to wrestling have been blah, but that still doesn't stop me from looking forward to it every year

I almost mentioned this too! I remember that for some reason. I was 7 when this happened but I just so remember him getting the world record and Jesse's involvement. For some reason I also remember Ron Bass eliminating Sam Houston from an electric chair position and ofc the finish.

Same. This years for some reason had a lot of anticipation and then............"#30 Roman Reigns".

I would, but I doubt I could find them all for download (like I did for WM) or on YT/DM. I'll see what's out there.

Now that I have more time I might give it a shot, watching first one as I type.
