So the idea for Kenobi was originally a movie trilogy, but they just spread out the first movie to six hours. The guy who wrote the story had this to say about what would have been the second movie... (In spoiler because if there ends up being a second season, this could be a plot point I guess.)

Spoiler:
Either through a prophecy or a conversation with Qui-Gon Jinn, Kenobi would learn that he must someday give up his own life for the greater good. "So that when that moment comes up in [A New Hope], you understand," Beattie said. "He's recognizing he's been on this journey already, and he's waiting for this moment, and that's how he's able to make it so easily. To do this [sacrifice], and die. So that to me was the second evolution, the second film, the second story. So for me, if I have anything to do with the second season of Obi-Wan, that's the character evolution that I would take him on. That, to me, is really interesting. And like I said, universal."

I like that idea, but boy there would have to be a lot more to it to have ever made a movie out of that as the central idea.

Seems like that would have been something they could have just included in this.

It would almost certainly have to be on Tatooine because they even mentioned that Leia was the only thing that could draw him away and they've already done that. They probably also can't do anymore Vader for a couple of reasons:

1 - Once Vader learns where Obi-Wan is hiding, you can't possibly keep continuity.
2 - How many times can Obi-Wan kick Vader's ass and just leave him there to continue his murderous rampage?

There was a particular comics scene (from the "journals of Obi-Wan Kenobi") they could beef up into a bigger storyline, where he has to deal with mercenaries and bounty hunters sent after him by (I think it was) Jabba.

They've taken materials from the comics and put them in shows already. There's precedent. The entire opening episode of Bad Batch is an expansion of a scene in Kanaan.

The "can't really do Vader again" part is almost entirely why I'm so bearish on a season two. Feels like there's a strong chance that they would just bust out the shoehorn and do Vader again regardless of how strong the reasons are that they shouldn't. And if they didn't do that, I'm pessimistic that it would be particularly successful for them again. So...just do a different series next, please.

The Offer was quite enjoyable. Iím more than a bit skeptical about the historical accuracy, but the story they told was compelling all the same. Miles Teller is the real deal as a leading man.

(This was about the 2021 Oscars.)

I watched Sound of Metal tonight, and I have to tell you, I'm quite skeptical of this having been some sort of gangbusters year. I've only seen The Father, Sound of Metal, Nomadland, and Trial of the Chicago 7, but I haven't seen anything close to an excellent film in the bunch. Nomadland was the only one I outright didn't like - the other three were various shades of good IMO - but already I feel like I can say I liked the 2020 field better.

I've only seen three of the 2020 field - Joker, Little Women, Marriage Story - but all three of those were either great or verged on great, and all were better than any I've seen in the 2021 field.

Surprised you liked Joker better than either The Father or Sound of Metal. At least we agree on Nomadland.

Even more surprised that you apparently haven't seen Parasite yet.

Second hour of Sound of Metal was so much better than the first hour, while doing little to make me like the first hour better even with hindsight. I just thought it took too long to get all that interesting. I did like it overall though.

Joker was unpleasant (by design) and I doubt I need to watch it again, but I did think it was really strong.

Oh, and Parasite is definitely on the list. Even as someone who doesnít pretend to be particularly busy or anything, itís tough to get to everything quickly. Weíre just absolutely swimming in available content I want to watch.

From the 2021 field, Judas and the Black Messiah was really strong. Immediate reaction is that it's probably my favorite of those ones that I've seen.

Not that he was the main character or anything, but I'm still not entirely sure how Landry Clarke from Friday Night Lights launched such a prolific career. Dude is somehow in everything.

That movie is so good. Was my favorite of that year and crushes everything from 2022.

Thanks to whoever posted the rec for the Darth Plagueis novel. I'm about 80% thru and it's excellent. It'd make for an awesome movie, but I guess it's not even canon anymore. Maybe they'll go the Thrawn route and add him in anyway. I think in canon, they admit he exists, but maybe not even as a Muun, and more of a "Sith legend" than Sidious' Master.

The prequel trilogy makes a ton more sense given all the background provided in the novel. I'm gonna do a chronological rewatch of every movie/series. The exception is I might skip the Clone Wars stuff that isn't listed as "must watch". For reference, there are about 8-10 must watch episodes in each season starting with S2. Maybe I'll skip Rebels S1 too. I remember watching 4-5 episodes of S1 and not really liking it.

I've seen all the live action stuff, but very little of Rebels, Bad Batch, and only 10% of Clone Wars, so it should be cool to finally understand a lot of the new characters that have been popping up, and get caught up for the new series coming out later this year.

The Bad Batch is pretty good when the focus is not on the main characters.

The focus is usually on the main characters.

Basically with the cartoons I'm mostly wanting to capture all the key plot points and character development so I understand what's going on better in Mando, Ahsoka, etc. I gather that quite a bit happens in Clone Wars and Rebels (after S1), but it seems like with Bad Batch, you can just give it a pass and not miss out on much. Maybe I'm wrong there. I've also seen some of the CW episodes w/the Bad Batch and kinda found them all annoying anyway.
