creed killed it was a meme i think

he had a couple good lines (like his blog) but was probably the second one to jump the shark (first of course being kevin)

Office Rankings for the main group was probably Jim > Dwight > Michael > Andy > Pam > Ryan >Darrell > Stanley > Angela > Kevin > Oscar > Creed > Kelly > Meredith

Worst character of all time for the show was Nelly
Packer was the second worst (i hate that dude so much. He's never funny.)
Erin was ok but fought for "lol how stupid can you be" space with Kevin which hurt

Jim no longer had any sort of claim for #1 as the seasons went on IMO. Dwight's quality stayed high throughout the series, where Jim and Pam peaked early and then spent a significant amount of time being blah in the second half of the series. Michael is one of the tougher ones to rate because he was a very obnoxious character at times (obnoxious to me as an audience member...obviously the character was obnoxious by design to the other characters), but also had some of the best moments. Helps that Steve Carell was such a ****ing boss with the material he was given, even the bad stuff.

I agree that Nelly was irredeemable. I've been watching through the show again, and it's actually still good after the Sabre purchase. I had it in my mind that the show took a nosedive at that point, but the nosedive came later. Gabe was not a good character, but did occasionally bring laughs.

I would put Packer below even Nelly, but I'm pretty sure he appeared in less than 10 episodes ever, so putting him in the conversation brings in a bunch of other characters like David Wallace (who was pretty great) and alters the landscape.

Eh were ignoring the last 3 years when they went full ******. Temp Ryan was funny though you are correct, kind of just forgot about that era. The rest was terrible imo

I thought Ryan was alright. Wouldn't even consider him as a possibility for worst. I'm a bigger fan of Stanley than most because he's the character I most identify with. I loved Oscar too.

The one time I loved Creed, just had me rolling at the time, was him manipulating Michael out of firing him at the end of the Halloween party in season two. ****ing great scene. But most of his stuff misfired for me.

Speaking of The Office, I have a question. For anyone that has or currently does work in an office, how accurate are the characters to real life? Like I know Michael was just a ridiculous exaggeration, but what about the other characters?

I ask this because the vast majority of my work experience has been in kitchens. And with that I can tell you that the movie Waiting was really accurate with regards to employees in a restaurant.

The number of times I cringed for real thanks to something Michael did is probably higher than any other character in any show. Yet the fact that I still liked him and rooted for him to get his **** together is a testament to how hard Carrell crushed it.

I also recently rewatched the whole series on netflix which is cool. Much like you I recalled the sabre purchase as being a heavy nosedive and also thought that Spader's character was really bad. Rewatch proved me wrong though. It was the introduction of Nelly that began the nosedive in the Tallahassee stuff. Spader was pretty great and I think it was just an issue of being so used to Michael that I just rejected the person in that role in real time. In fact on rewatch I found the pool party episode to be one of my favorites from the last few seasons.

And I can't fault anyone for Dwight #1. They did a really good job of balancing him as an over the top caricature and reeling him back down to earth before he got Kevined as the series went on.

After I finished Office and started watching/rewatching 30 Rock (which I had caught a few seasons of in real time but never kept up with it quite as hard as others at the time so I missed a fair amount). I finally finished the series the other night and that show was phenomenal. Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin were just perfect.

If I'm correct in my timeline then there was a period where thursday nights on nbc was something like Community -> Office -> 30 rock -> parks and rec which might be the peak of network television comedy blocks

Dwight is a cartoon character obviously. Jim, Pam, Stanley, Phyllis, Oscar, Darryl, and to an extent Andy are realistic to what you'll find in an office. Angela is borderline on that front. Kelly, Kevin, Creed, and Meredith are caricatures.

Ironically, I seem to recall the Office thread really really hating Spaders character, and IIRC none other than D.ID.s himself was there to tell us all the reasons we should be enjoying it.

I only watched like season 6 onwards once, and quit the 2nd to last year. I recall it being incredibly unbearable, so cant really imagine a rewatch would help much.

That comedy block you mentioned is pretty great, but did NBC have Friends/Seinfeld/Frasier all together on the same night at one point? If so, I'm taking that as GOAT regardless of whatever revolving door was happening in the fourth spot. But Frasier might have only moved to Thursday after Seinfeld signed off.

I'm pretty sure every office of a reasonable size has a Stanley, a Jim, and a Phyllis. The rest? Not so sure.

Also the greatness with that P&R/Office block is a little misleading because P&R season 1 sucked, then by the time it hit stride in season 2, The Office was well into its descent from greatness. They weren't all peaking simultaneously.

Friends/Seinfeld are already better due to not falling off a cliff after a few seasons in quality.

Also most ppl prob didnt like them as much as me, but fox had something like Simpsons/3rd rock from the sun/Home Improvement/Simpsons or some such combo. It was a rerun pattern, so it doesnt really count in the discussion, but it was pretty much my favorite thing ever as a kid.

I would have to look it up, but I'm fairly confident that there was a late 80's early 90's Thursday lineup that probably was better too. They had Cheers, Cosby Show, Different World, and Seinfeld also started in the 9:30 slot for portions of its first couple seasons.

Yeah, yeah I know Different World was that great, but it did do killer ratings.

It looks like Fraiser took over seinfelds slot on thursdays in 98-99. the lineup was friends/will and grace/fraiser/veronicas closet (and friends/just shoot me/seinfeld/veronicas closet the year before)

yeah, after 30 rock ive moved to parks and rec. season 1 was a lot worse than i remembered. just getting into the swing of things in season 2 so hoping to relive some awesomeness. just did the ep where they go hunting and was cracking up

Speaking of parks and rec, I suggest anyone on netflix check out Aziz's show Master of None. Just one season so far but I really, really, really liked it.

Yeah these were my guesses, but I also thought a Jim/Pam deal was quite common too.

I can say that Waiting is almost 100% accurate. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it, especially if you ever worked in a restaurant

Oh yeah, Seinfeld did have Cheers as a lead-in at one point. Larry David was salty about it and didn't want to have to use the boost from following the Cheers ratings monster in order for Seinfeld to hit the next level.

Cosby Show really doesn't hold up at all, and I thought that well before the Cosby rape stuff came to light. But I did enjoy it as a kid.

Oscar certainly wouldn't be abnormal in an IRL office. A smug know-it-all is a pretty common thing...granted that I work in a law office.
