I'm so excited! Also, this year will mark my first full year as as UW Huskies fan. No doubt, all football seasons will end in disappointment.

My CFL team is currently 0-7.

My NFL team (the Eagles) could be either average, or downright awful this year.

The Huskies will suck.

Let the good times roll.

Too late as I got my first pieces of UW clothing for Christmas. In my eyes, there is no turning back.

Since we're not actually into college football season yet, the UW homers are still able to offer me a decent bit of annoyance during both the preseason and during draft time with their constant insistence that every ****ing player that played for UW would be the best possible player that the Seahawks could pick up. This always get exacerbated by the fact that the Seahawks frequently do pick up local guys out of the undrafted free agent pool, so we almost always have some longshot from UW trying to make the team.

I get that people want players from their college teams to do well. I get rooting for them at the next level (within reason; I still remember the annoyance of strolling into a Seahawks-Lions game in 2003 and being inundated with a bunch of idiotic Joey Harrington fans who came to root for Detroit). I root for my school's players as well. But frankly, shut the **** up and just let the situation sort itself out. No, not every player that you loved in college is a great fit for your pro team. That's idiotic.

(Note: I have zero problem rooting for UW or Oregon alums who actually do play well for the Seahawks. I graciously forgive them for their college affiliation as long as they bring something to the table for my pro team.)

As a Lions fan, I can assure you that that was actually really obnoxious.

Not even we rooted for Joey Harrington.

To be fair, just going by what I see from him as a broadcaster now, he seems like a cool guy. But I could never fathom why he was so beloved as an NFL prospect; when the Cougars played Oregon, I had a lot of grudging respect for them, but Joey Harrington really wasn't much of the reason for it. It stunned me that he became a consensus top 5 pick.

Stafford is obviously quite a bit better, even if I sit in seething judgment of him every time I see clips of him in pregame warmups with a backward cap on. I just live under the assumption that he was a member of whatever the douchiest frat at Georgia is.

First time performing a full-length sketch comedy show in a year tonight, went "against" my best friend's team in an audience vote competition. Put on a great set (our first full length show as a group), felt good man. Continued my streak of using WWE themes for music in between sketches (ADR's theme for a salsa dancing one)

Out of curiosity, is there an endgame you're seeking with the comedy stuff, or is it just something you enjoy doing on the side?

I was wrong twice in my life. Once when I thought I got a problem wrong on a test and the other time when I thought picking up Joey Harrington was good for the Dolphins because he had potential it was just impossible to succeed in Detroit.

The first part is just joking around. The second part is accurate. I still remember watching these games: Against the Buffalo Bills in Week 15, Harrington went 5-for-17 for 20 yards, throwing two interceptions. His passer rating for the game was 0.0, the minimum possible under the complex NFL formula. Harrington was pulled midway through Miami's next game against the New York Jets, replaced in the 13–10 Christmas night loss by Cleo Lemon. CLEO LEMON. Good god Joey Harrington blew.

Can't say I even realized Joey went from Detroit to Miami. Thought he just went straight to Atlanta.

It's an odd thing: we've all fallen into the trap of thinking that maybe that high pick could revive himself in another place. I'm failing to immediately think of an example of that actually happening. I'm just glad that, once upon a time, the Chicago Bears decided that it would be a good idea to throw us a first round pick for Rick Mirer. He had been benched in favor of ****ing John Friesz after three bad years in Seattle, but Chicago was still willing to throw the Seahawks a first rounder for him (a top 10 pick at that...a top 10 pick that landed us a future HOFer and possibly the GOAT Seahawk to this point, Walter Jones).

It really is odd. I suppose the reason it keeps happening is just a lack of truly understanding the immense skill difference in college and nfl (as much as we think that difference is, it's still significantly more) so we keep expecting those people to be able to do well in the right circumstances?

For instance, I used to think that Alex Smith could have been really good if he and Rodgers would have been reversed. What with sitting behind a good QB for a couple years, a consistent system, and having better skill players around him. But maybe it's just that wasn't good enough and it wouldn't have mattered.

I also know teams gave chances to Brady Quinn, Brandon Weeden, and Tim Tebow after it had been established they totally blew so it's not just us haha.

Right, it happens all over the league. See: Jim Irsay shooting his wad all over Twitter because he was about to give a first round pick away for Trent Richardson.

I think there's this expectation that the consensus couldn't have been TOTALLY wrong when everyone agrees that this really high pick should have been an awesome player. It's an understandable impulse, one that I have fallen prey to also, but it turns a blind eye to the fact that there are top 10 picks every year that never turn into ****.

The best-case scenario for the league is something like the 2011 Draft, when 12 of the top 16 picks have already gone on to appear in at least one pro bowl. Even there, you have complete nonsense like Blaine Gabbert/Jake Locker/Christian Ponder all in the top 12 overall.

I'm not like the other UW fans you describe in this thread, today and in the past. All of their decent players on last year's team just recently got drafted into the NFL. Any UW fan who thinks they will have anything but a bad to average season is delusion.

I also have a rule I live by that if I pick a team, then get a piece of that team's merchandise, i'm stuck for life. No matter what.

Don't care. Anyone who dons the purple and gold should dive through a plate glass window to escape from me.

Make a career out of it. Want the impossible work/life balance until that happens, so fruitlessly (for now) applying to jobs out in NYC (being out-of-state with one "real" job and 5 years of poker under one's belt doesn't make it easier). Love acting but don't have the look/voice for it. Happy writing sketch comedy now and transitioning into articles/TV/etc.

Though I have no desire to live in Stamford, CT, I can't say I'd turn down a shot to get into the writer's room in WWE (a girl in my sketch group is getting a writer's assistant gig next spring there).

Had been having some issues breathing the past 5 days. Went to ER twice. Had to go under to have a tube down my throat to my stomach today and apparently my throat narrowed with no underlying reason. Happy it's not serious but wtf. Apparently this will be a recurring issue every few years. Meh.

As a Navy football fan - and sports in general - I often get asked if I am in the Navy. My claim to them is living in Annapolis as a kid, literally right next to naval housing to the point it was often mistaken for naval housing. It's also weird hearing fans of other teams playing Navy because there's obvious a ton of respect there, but it's not the same feel as most college athletic competitions.

Big year as a fan for me though, as Keenan Reynolds, the navy qb is going for the all-time TD record. He's on Heisman long lists (as opposed to short lists) and would be awesome just for him to get invited to the ceremony. It's also Navy's first ever year in a conference, the AAC. A good year for Navy is of course beating Army, but making a bowl, which they have 9 of 11 years, iirc. However, the majority of their wins are against low level teams, such as Colgate this weekend. In the new conference they'll play quite a few teams around the top 50, but they avoid Cincy this year, that could be a national spoiler. Throwing some conference championship games in there will be pretty cool as a fan.

This post probably sucks, but that's what the thread is for. Just getting pumped for the season, as most people are.

I'm jacked to watch a real football game tonight. Hopefully Harbaugh takes it on the chin as people expect.

Really though, whatever happens with Harbaugh is a freeroll from my seat as long as Tomsula fails in SF. Either Harbaugh and Michigan lose, which is good, or Harbaugh trolls SF by being successful while SF languishes (much to the consternation of those Ohio State *******s), which is also good.

None of the college games were on TV in Canada last night. However, we did get 3 week 4 NFL preseason games. Like, wtf?

Huskies will be hammered by Boise State tonight. It will not be fun.
