I admittedly didn't even say "excuse me." I was too busy internally mumbling "you're seriously not going to move out of the way?"

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is weird as **** and also good, but I suspect that it would fit the "adds to the plot or character" type of weirdness.

Pan's Labyrinth is weird in ways that don't necessarily add anything to a plot or character, but I also really liked that one. That's probably more of a candidate for the moorobot test.

Agreed. Solid film.

I'm not saying that the sound of a car horn merely annoys me. I'm saying that it sends me from being as calm as a Hindu cow to being frothing-at-the-mouth furious within a split-second.

That is how little faith I have that the average horn is being used correctly.

The average anything is likely used incorrectly. Or not used at all (see blinker in most cities). Very few things that people use are used well unless a person uses that thing all the time.

Granted.

Most things that people use are not loud. Far be it from me to care if a person is using their manual can opener sub-optimally.

Which horn blowers are your favorite?

Pointlessly express disapproval after the fact blower?

Announce presence to somebody they may or may not know guy?

Those two are both pretty close and are both terrible.

Obviously the biggest idiots of all have to be the guys who honk a horn in the middle of a traffic jam out of impatience, as if that's going to do anything. The horn became a stock part of a car for safety purposes, and it is just such a microscopic part of the time that it gets used for that purpose.

My timeline was approximately three years between the time that I think that my horn permanently busted (I got in a crash, and upon being fixed, the car horn no longer sounded at all on remote lock) and the time that I actually realized that it was busted. I was driving in a rural area, I believe it was in the Badlands National Park in South Dakota, and there was this totally blind turn I was supposed to take, but there was an actual traffic sign instructing drivers to honk their horn twice before pulling out onto the next road. Attempted it, and nothing. Hell, that may have been the first time in the entire life of my car that I purposely attempted to honk the horn. It's really not something that needs to be done very often at all.

How do you handle the person in front of you that isn't paying attention when the red light turns green?

I usually give them a second and then give a quick little toot.

I think that's a valid course of action honestly. Meant to mention that. Just one quick horn to wake them up seems fine to keep traffic going. I realize it doesn't fall under safety concerns, but it's not just honking unnecessarily.

That said, I've never really honked at it, and obviously since my horn is busted I'm just helpless in that situation. Thankfully haven't run into it often.

I have to do self-checkout unfortunately because I bring my own shopping cart and bags. If I do regular checkout, I have to give detailed instructions on the bagger on what to put in what bag, since I bring 4 reuseable bags that barely fit into the cart when at capacity, and 1 of them I have around my shoulder going back. Every time I didn't do self-checkout, the bagger would leave a ton of space in every bag, then try to give me 20 plastic bags full of stuff. I'd also bag, but usually there's a big line behind me, so I didn't have a ton of time to do so.

Self-checkout is a pain in the ass, but necessary evil for me. And people who brag about parking spots really need lives.

I also take every car horn honk personally, and also froth-at-the-mouth to the point where I yell for whoever to STFU.

Not sure I understand the hate for self checkout.

I'm going to qualify this statement by saying that where I shop generally has no lineup for these machines, so I don't run in to the reason most people hate it.

Self-checkout is great generally, my only complaint would be the people who suck at using it who clog things up. If they could just leave those machines to me and equally talented self-checkers, it would basically be a perfect system.

Yeah, missed one that I just heard that now has me homicidal: a person who honks their horn from the parking lot of an apartment complex to signal to someone to come out. Are you ****ing kidding me? A person who does that is, without any possible exception no matter how remote, a net negative to the universe.

I stopped opening the Sterling one pretty quickly. Thing with these social justice threads are that many of the people who are correct make a strong bid to be just as irritating as the people who are ignorant and wrong.

I'm guessing the popular choice would be Good Will Hunting, though I doubt I'd co-sign with that. I've always regarded that as "Robin Williams being ****ing awesome and stealing every scene he's in, and the rest of the movie is just whatever." It's an interesting question. I don't know that I have a standout favorite even though I loved the guy's acting.
