The 70s is the decade of movies that I avoid. It seems almost every movie I've watched from that decade has a large element of entirely pointless chaos or dull surrealism or weird for the sake of weird, no matter how well reviewed.

I equate the slow self-checkout people more with the slow crosswalk people who will lope across in slow motion because they have zero care in the world for how much they might slow others down.

The people who mill around obsessively looking for a slightly closer spot are completely stupid but don't serve as much of an inconvenience. Back in college, a neighbor of mine was obsessed with getting the spot closest to the front door, and when he would get it he would then actually avoid driving for as long as possible just because he knew that he would lose it once that happened. Yes, he would actually walk places he would have otherwise driven, because he didn't want to lose the close parking space. I have no idea what he thought the value of that space was if not for just being something that spares you some walking.

There's no way any of those things describe the first two Godfather movies.

My closest supermarket is a pain in the ass. If you go there past 10pm, self checkout is your only option. What makes it even worse is they have 2 employees assisting people with the self checkout.

Thankfully they avoided this trend and became two of the GOAT. I'm probably biased by a small sample size also.

The willingness to sacrifice something of value to gain an imaginary victory (or avoid an imaginary loss) is a bizarre aspect of the psychology of many.

Dog Day Afternoon is pretty excellent too. Apocalypse Now and Alien are both late 70s and really good.

A Clockwork Orange is one that I didn't enjoy at all, despite it being heralded as a fantastic movie.

Oh, Taxi Driver is great too. I had it in my mind that it was 80s but it's 1975.

Chinatown is one that I've seen once and didn't necessarily see the big deal, but also came away feeling like I owed it a second viewing that has never happened.

A Clockwork Orange is perhaps the epitome of what I was talking about and just can't stand. Taxi Driver I liked but I much prefer the later higher end later Scorsese movies. Alien and Apocalaypse Now I found to be underwhelming but not bad. Perhaps by the late 70s that trend of "Oh, look at this weird thing and stuff happening!" was going away.

Yeah I was also going to say One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest but figured it would fall under your description. Still one of the greats though.

Chinatown is worth watching again although I haven't seen it in at least 10 years.

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest I loved. The characterization in the movie is legendary. I thought it was a 60s movie for some reason until I just looked it up; probably because I usually don't love 70s movies.

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest didn't do near as much for me as it did for others. I've given it two shots, and I think that it's decent but it just doesn't resonate for me the way it does for others. Love the stuff that Nicholson has done in my lifetime, but in going back through the archive of his movies, The Shining is really the first one chronologically that I loved (1980).

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is probably in my top 10.

It wasn't a major role but I liked him in Easy Rider.

I think with A Clockwork Orange it was more that the book was really strange than anything.

Calling all Room fans. I present to you, the Room video game!

http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/547307

It actually does a pretty good job of filling in the numerous plot holes. Enjoy.

I finished the book yesterday. It was a entertaining read. Going to have to go back in to it and check a few things again, but really funny overall

This morning I'm heading out of my apartment, down the same stairwell I always take down, and at some midpoint between my floor and the ground floor, there is this really fat girl just laying across the stairs. I'm like...wat. Mind you, she's alright, she certainly doesn't seem to have collapsed there or anything. She appeared as though she just felt like she could chill on the stairs, and was taking up almost all of them.

My only real choices are to awkwardly backtrack and then go take another stairwell quite a ways from there, or to just go forward. I decide that as I get closer, she'll realize that someone is coming, and hopefully move. As I descend, she does hear my footsteps and glance up at me. Then she "moves"...I'm pretty sure she literally cleared another centimeter of space, and that's it. That is to say that she is still taking up more than I can cleanly walk on without fear of stepping on her or something.

I'm still like 5-6 steps away at this point. Confused, I just decide to proceed forward as if she's a pigeon or something, and will move if I keep pressing closer and closer. Except she didn't. To her mind, I guess that initial centimeter she cleared was as much movement as could be required. My bluff is pretty much called as I'm a step behind her and slowly stepping forward. Well I can't turn back now. As I look down, I see that there's really not even enough room to put one foot down, so I shrug and take a full hop over that stair to the next one. I landed funny and now I seem to have tweaked my knee.

The end.

This reminds me of the talk to fatties thread and the theory that fat people don't really realize how fat they are and how much space they take up.

I did this. Since doing it, I've found myself multiple times just absently sending my mouse up to where the FB shortcut on my toolbar used to be. Then I shrug and go "yeah, I actually don't care about checking that right now." It had become some weird mindless reflex.

Don't worry Wally, I won't go full ****hole and delete my account at this time.

I'm fine with strange if it is funny or insightful or adds to a plot or character. Otherwise, it is a waste of my time. Weird has minimal intrinsic value.

I'm going to start carrying around a recording of Vickie Guerrero saying excuse me just in case I encounter such a scenario.
