Like, overall, Nathan was definitely working in Kor's corner and trying to help him accomplish the mission he set out for, and I absolutely loved that episode, but that moment did actually cause me to cringe more than anything.
This is essentially how I felt for the whole series (and it got worse as the show went on).

Like, the scenes where they had to convince the 6 year old to stop calling Nathan "Daddy". Is that supposed to be funny? I legitimately don't get it.

I don't think that part was meant to be funny. Honestly, I took the more charitable view that Nathan was actually grappling with the morality of the collateral damage of a weird experiment like his, and was owning it by including that as a televised part of the show. I think a lot of the show was more meant to be absurdist than truly hilarious.

I mentioned upthread that I just flat-out didn't like that episode:

I’ll probably perpetually watch anything Nathan Fielder does. However, even for Nathan, the season one finale was more uncomfortable than compelling though. That’s the one ep I can’t say I actually liked.

That was the most extreme example, but I really did feel similarly throughout the show. To use your words, it was just about all more uncomfortable than compelling.

Have you seen How to With Jon Wilson, EB?

Its a Fielder EP show in a similar vein, but Wilson is much less cringy and much more sincere than Fielder. Its got a lot of great laughs, and a lot of heart so I have a feeling you would like it better

I'm with master. The series was brilliant and I'm all in on anything Fielder makes.

I don't think it was really meant to be lol funny in the way that Nathan For You sometimes was, although I did laugh quite a bit. The brilliance for me was in the execution. Nathan thinks of so many little thing (like the Budget Boy character eating a ketchup packet) and the layers upon layers of depth in each episode.

I didn't think anything was too over the top or mean spirited apart from the stuff with the 6 year old. I think Nathan was genuinely hurt by it and will no longer include young children.

Never seen it.

I'll keep it in mind next time I'm looking for something.

Gotta finish Solar Opposites first though.

Agreed with all of this. One of the funniest lol moments also occurred in Ep 6 (which was a tough watch, but it had some real heart for the majority of the episode) where the extras threw a birthday party but couldn't make noise because they weren't being paid. So ****ing funny.

To this day I still think of the weird-ass way that Kor introduced his problem. "What if I'm afraid that...one of my friends might have a particularly violent reaction toward a person?" By which he meant that one of his friends might get really upset with him.

Of course, he had an interesting way of framing things in general. He kept rehearsing framing his lie by saying, "My educational situation is a fraud," and I can't imagine a worse way to lead into that topic.

By the way, if anyone hasn't seen Nathan ****ing with the head of CBC back when he was getting his start as a comedian in Canada, it's pretty great.

Reckon it's running out of steam? I remember really liking the first two seasons, it starting off strong, but the wall stuff just seemed a lot weaker.

Thanks for the reminder about new NF show though, will check it out.

I'm up to S3E8, and still liking it quite a lot (including the wall subplot).

Okay, so I finally finished Black Widow and it was aight. My biggest gripe is that I would have preferred a more vanilla origin story for her. We hardly got to see any of the Red Room.

But more importantly, the end tease gave me the push to watch Hawkeye.

Wtf? This show is GREAT. I finished it last night and am still bewildered at how much I enjoyed it.

That's the point though right? you go through the emotion in that moment and then deal with it better if it actually happens.

The issue with the whole show is that it is putting people who seem quite vulnerable in a position where it could be seen as laughing at them, but I don't think this is what the show focused on or how it tried to portray these people. In most of it I felt like the laughs were much more to be had at Nathan's expense and more so the environments and scenarios he made up.

I enjoyed the show.

"If it actually happens" being a room full of bar trivia players, as well as the MC, laughing at someone and openly mocking them for not having a Master's degree? There's essentially no chance of that happening, so it was just them acting out his unrealistic nightmare for the fun of it.

Obviously having fake Trish the Dish take his confession badly and lay into him was fine, since that was actually meant to just prepare him for that possibility, but the rest of that scene was just schoolyard stuff.

Again, I'm in no way down on the show in general. I was just confused at that being taken as funny.

Dude, it's great to see you. Had to do a double-take when I saw "last post by..."

Thanks man, it's been a fun season and last night was great. And thankfully this should only be the beginning of our window to contend. Not really planning on making it very far this year, but will be thrilled if I'm wrong.

Not a huge fan of baseball but I do follow and watch a bunch of Jomboy on Youtube so that's how I found out the Mariners clinched a playoff birth and also came to say congrats, LKJ. I'll be rooting for them

edit for link

Thanks, I liked that video too. Jomboy is always fantastic; it’s always a thrill when I find out he cranked out some Mariner content. His review of the Mariners-Angels brawl was excellent.

What in the blue ****?

https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/...er-2023-season

Disgraced piece of **** two-bit mob boss Phil Nevin gets re-upped for the 2023 season despite being wildly unsuccessful after taking over as interim manager. Little did I know that when MLB failed to suspend him for life and a day earlier in the year, they were also failing to save the Angels from themselves.

Well, there are two positive ways to look at this as well.

1) They're trying to sell the team. That happens, the new owner/GM combo may fire him not soon after they told him he was staying, which would make it hurt more.

2) They're rebuilding. He's helming a shitty team, especially if they trade Ohtani. And they might not be able to trade the Trout contract, while they're stuck with Rendon too. So they might suck for a long time.

I did not have the Mariners dominating game 1, but boy was it fun to watch. Going back to the regular season we've beaten Toronto six straight, so I should probably get the idea out of my mind at some point that we just don't have enough to win this series. Clearly we're favorites to advance now.

(Still fully expecting to have to play Sunday.)

I missed the first 3 innings of the Mariners game so all of the action . Was shocked to see them stomping when I put it on. Glad they finished it off. Probably the first time I've tuned into a baseball game since the D-Backs won in '01. I won't be late tomorrow!

I didn't even know baseball has seeds now

"How to Win 100 Games & Still Make Your Fans Miserable" by the New York Mets

I don't love Ray's chances tomorrow either against an entirely right-handed lineup that mashes fastballs and sliders, but the M's could be in decent shape for G3 if they throw Berrios instead of Stripling.
