Well I could see that happening.

Apparently there's also a 911 call that his wife placed, he was threatening suicide.

So yeah, this has gone much more the way of "sad meltdown." Hope he's going to be okay. My mistake for drawing the wrong conclusions from the initial headline.

The Sopranos has a truly impressive ability to make every moment count, and just jam just a ton of plot into every episode. I keep having these moments where the episode is winding down and I'm left to go, "Wait, WTF, this storyline didn't even exist less than an hour ago." Feels like I just watched a four-episode arc and it was contained in one.

I'll have to give it a shot.

Generally don't like mob/mafia stuff, but I could use a sizable series to get into.

Did you not like The Godfather?

I haven't seen. Or Scarface.

Whew. I was hoping that was your answer, since the alternative was probably not liking it, and "haven't seen it" is obviously fixable. "Didn't like it" leads to this:

The Godfather Trilogy is on Peacock now and comes with my highest recommendation. No movie comes all that close in my mind to being as good as the first two Godfather movies.

Mind you, I had to watch The Godfather for a second time before it really stuck with me. I watched it the first time, and there's a ton of characters to track, and I got confused. In fairness, I can really be an attention-addled dunce when watching TV/movies, so that may not happen to everyone. But I also did come away from it firmly feeling like I needed to see it again. The second time I watched, and became obsessed.

Scarface was whatever. I think it's overrated. I only saw that one once, but it did not at all give me that same feeling that I owed it another watch.

I love that in the youtube image, you can see that Peter is saying "It insists upon itself." I love that!

Could well give it a whirl some time soon.

Watched the first 1.25 hours and have been enjoying it. Too tired to give it the attention it deserves so stopping for now.

I googled Abe Vigoda when I thought it was him that I saw. I considered it a possibility that he died in the last 365 days, two years max. It was January 2016.

I think The Sopranos is far more accessible/easy-to-track than The Godfather (and much funnier). I feel like Goodfellas is a better lead-in to it (and features a lot of the same actors)

By process of elimination, I sort of figured that "generally don't like mob/mafia stuff" + hasn't watched The Godfather or Scarface = watched Goodfellas and didn't really like it.

Anyway, the urging to watch The Godfather isn't about being a primer for anything else.

Watching the Russians compete in this Olympics under “Russian Olympic Committee” reminds me of when Edge and Christian were barred from tag title shots so they competed as Los Conquistadors instead.

Aaron Rodgers reuniting with the Green Bay Packers reminds me of that match from IYH: Great White North when Yokozuna and Mabel fought to an unwatchable double countout, then got back into the ring and hugged each other.

Hi

I will say this quickly and duck out before I get rocks hurled at me. I never got into Sopranos, The Wire, or Godfather and turned them all off. Now granted I was an idiot college kid, and I like to imagine my tastes have matured, so I really need to try all of these again. Maybe Good Fellas too, thought it was meh (and Scarface). To me it feels like people just highly overrate anything mob related, but again, college.

I actually didn't stick with The Wire myself. I got somewhere into season two also, so it feels like I gave it a fair shake. I've still had it in my mind that maybe I need to give it another go since my last try was around the time that I made a failed attempt at The Sopranos.

Goodfellas took me until a second watch before I liked it much at all, and even on second go I thought it was really good but not some all-time classic. I think it's insane for people to put it on the level of The Godfather.

You're required to watch The Godfather 10 times until you're fully obsessed with it.

(Anyway, given all I've said about these various movies/TV shows, I don't think I have any crazy bias toward mob/crime drama.)

Godfather seems like a good starting point. At least it’s not a huge commitment. I’ll try and get it done in the next month or so and report back

It's been a long time since I've seen either one, but I actually think I enjoyed Casino more than Goodfellas.

See, last night I realized my opinions on certain genres were formed well before college age.

Never seen Goodfellas. Saw The Departed twice, I don't know if I don't get it, or what. But not me.

Did see Casino. Been awhile but I have positive feelings towards it.

Finished Godfather last night. I enjoyed it, but don't imagine ever watching it again. I didn't realize that was Al Pacino until looking at the IMDB after.

Then I watched the first 1h45m of part 2, before falling asleep. Good chance I don't finish.

You're an interesting creature, Bighurt. Different strokes though, so no judgement.

What would you say your favorite mob movie is?
