That show has obviously been successful, but I can't imagine it's anything close to a juggernaut since I'll go like two years in between being reminded that it even still exists.
Ellen Pompeo admitted she's stayed on the show for so long to make a consistent, good paycheck to provide for her family instead of trying to "beg for leads" as an actress in her 40's. I can respect that

I didn't know they're still making episodes. I've never seen one.

I'm very prejudiced against network television.

Wow 363 episodes! Patrick Dempsey and Sandra Oh are the only top cast members Im aware of. Didn't know either were on the show.

Speaking of Sandra Oh, if you haven't seen Catfight, I highly recommend it.

Edit: didn't scroll far enough to get to Katherine Heigl. Also didn't know she was on the show.

I hate medical shows with a passion. You'd think people would see enough of that crap in rl.

Yeah, that does make sense. That might make sense of the whole thing really, since she's the title character and this stance may have kept the pay scale of the whole show reasonable.

I'm not into them either, but people indulge in stuff featuring undesirable material all the time. Tearjerkers will always have a market. Obviously so does comedy and action, which is mostly designed just to bring people joy, but I think people probably value relatability as much or more than anything.

I read an interview with one of the creators and he was talking about how their plan was to run 4 seasons at like 12 episodes each, and abc demanded they do like 50 more episodes than they intended so it’s hard for me to blame the writers there.
I will go to my grave being a Lost defender. I've seen it all the way through multiple times and think the hate is so overblown, likely due to the fact that it was the first real viral/acclaimed show to gain prominence since the rise of social media.

but LOST was specifically designed to keep teasing you with promises that there's some amazing payoff for all of the questions they kept creating
Like this implies the drama/twists are contrived out of thin air. I obv take no issue with anyone who doesn't enjoy the show bc enjoyment is subjective, but this seemed like an attack on the writing/storytelling and imo one of the best parts of re-watching Lost is seeing how well crafted the show is and how consistent the characters are throughout most of the run. Very little of what they do is without setup.

Otoh, I watched Prison Break season 1 recently, there's a show where your critique would fit perfectly. Every act ends with a twist/cliffhanger and very often it's just characters doing stuff or say open-ended things that if you use your brain for 2 seconds make very little sense and are only done to keep the audience on edge. Once you figure out their trick the appeal of the show is largely gone.

I remember enjoying Prison Break season 1 a fair bit, but man oh man did that show become just 100% unwatchable once it got into season 2. I can’t remember my exact quit point, but it did stand out to me that it was one of the steepest drop-offs I can ever recall seeing in a TV show.

It’s entirely possible season 1 also wouldn’t hold up well for me if I gave it a rewatch.

Its been a few years since my S1 rewatch, but I still think it's good. Such puuuure AIDS in the later seasons. Just one backstab after the other, over and over, whether it was in their best interest or not.

For some reason my brother has Eddy Mansfield as a houseguest this week.

I have heard this is good but I couldn't face trying it. The only show I can think of that I watch is Call the Midwife and there I pretty much had my love of historical drama override my disdain for medical stuff. Oh wait the UK Getting On was brilliant also but I had to stop watching it when my mum got sick as it was too close to home.

Prison Break season 1 was excellent and should have been a stand alone season. Unfortunately the US doesn't embrace this concept.

Ya I still enjoyed it upon re-watch. I was just saying a lot of the drama/mid-ep cliffhangers (scenes that ended open-ended) are completely contrived and meant to leave the audience on edge but often times don't make a ton of sense or are completely forced. But if you're willing to just turn your brain off and just be entertained it's very good at what it does.

Damn; I enjoyed GLOW. Would have liked to see it get a proper final season.

Season 6 of Silicon Valley confirmed better than season 5 (while still being a fair bit worse than the first four seasons). Just wrapped up the rewatch. Overall, still a great show.

By the way, every time I mention The Americans in here it gets no engagement. Have none of you seen The Americans? Because it's fantastic.

I watched the 1st season and thought it was excellent. Just haven't gotten back to it yet. Same with Justified.

It annoys me to have those shows on my shelf, but I definitely do also. I stopped watching for no particular reason and it's zero demerit on the show, yet I've taken long enough to get back to it that I don't know if I can just jump in midway again without having forgotten a bunch.

Well that was a fun SNF game.

(These are the advantages I have as a sports fan without a "team")

Pete Carroll doesn’t let Russell throw the ball once in the final offensive series of regulation to salt the game away, thereby blowing the game.

But 3-4 possessions occurred after that before the game ended, therefore Pete will not shoulder primary blame (if any) in the postgame coverage.

People ****ing wake up in the morning and decide that whatever happens all day, the only thing that will count is the thing that happened five seconds ago. Everyone has the memory of a goddamn hamster. Everyone is irredeemably terrible at everything.

Pete was just recalling what happened when he let Russ cook on their final offensive series of Super Bowl XLIX
