At the end of every month I'd have withdrawal for at least a few days because I could never make them last all month and going through withdrawal for days isn't something I'd wish on anyone. Withdrawal was constant aches, fatigue, insomnia, and restless leg syndrome. Not fun. Much happier now without drugs.
FWIW I didn't proactively ask, and it wasn't actually the dentist that I asked. He verbally authorized his assistant to write scripts for pain meds and for an antibiotic. When she wrote hydrocodone, I told her it hasn't worked well for me and asked if percocet would be possible since that has helped in the past. She said he doesn't write percocet for anyone. Again, I respect the restraint even if it wasn't the answer I prefer. Feels like hydrocodone kills like 60% of my pain and also makes me feel kind of nauseous. Tooth pain is such a ***** that even killing that much of the pain still makes it feel worth it to take the drug, but it's just not pleasant.
I definitely take seriously the risk of addiction when this situation arises, and how terrible it would be if I actually got hooked. Thankfully, in my experience, with something like a tooth infection, the antibiotics should kill all pain in less than a week and eliminate the need for it, so I assume I'll be off the pain meds within a few days.
