I played catch-up on this during the weekend. When I saw this post though, I obviously had to know exactly what context he came up in.
My watching of Jeopardy comes and goes, so I saw some of Ken (once he had caught fire and created some buzz) and saw most of James's run, but had no familiarity with Brad except to see his name thrown around here and there. Was it pretty much expected that he had no business being on stage with Ken and James?
No, I saw a number of people actually choosing him as the favorite, including some in the Jeopardy thread here on 2+2.
Hi team won the most recent major tournament when they did the team tourney early last year, but he was the clear weak link on the team and he has lost a noticeable step in his buzzer work and recall. In terms of sheer knowledge power, he likely is behind Ken but ahead of James, but not by much. He also seems to struggle more on individual questions like Daily Doubles and Final than the other two.
You don't win six (including the four most major that Jeopardy has ever held) tournaments by being bad at it. He isn't the oldest guy in the room either, it just seems as though his recall speed has slowed more than the other two, especially Ken who is just beastly.
