I had this problem as well. Started feeding the beast at nite as a precaution. Worked wonders for my sleep cycle; but got the cat fat as f word.

Re: Wrestling OT/LC Thread: 346 Days Until Christmas

Mostly destructiveness. Can't get him to stop going after wires. Recently he has gone on a spree of heading over to my bookshelf and damaging my books; it was lovely to wake up and discover that he had destroyed the beauty of my leatherbound copy of David Copperfield that previously served as one of the prettier decorations on the shelf. (This morning I caught him in the act as he was just about to do a number on Great Expectations. I yelled at him to leave Charles Dickens alone.) He has destroyed a few window slats that cover my sliding glass door. If I have a drink going, whether a soda can or anything in a glass, he'll sneak up and knock it onto the floor if I stop paying attention for two seconds. This morning I found that he discovered a weak spot in the start of the carpet and was going to start digging the damn thing up. I had to move stuff just to protect that area so that he didn't make any more progress.

Just as I finished that paragraph I had to chase him off of my bookshelf and then scramble to protect my half-full soda can that he headed for.

He's still only at like 8.5 months old, so if I can still expect significant progress before he hits a year then great, but I'm increasingly skeptical that this pet-adoption idea was anything more than a solution in search of a problem.

Re: Wrestling OT/LC Thread: 346 Days Until Christmas

Sleep isn't much of a problem outside of the fact that I wish he would spend more hours sleeping so that I wouldn't be on police duty the whole ****ing time I'm home and awake.

Anyway, I don't think that he's any particularly bad specimen of cat. He's very sweet. I just think that it was wrong-headed for me to think that it was a good fit for me. Either way, I'm probably stuck with him until I'm over 50, which is a lovely reality.

They settle down after a bit.

A few things, for wires and such, they sell a spray that is safe for plastics and fabrics that has Capsaicin in it. One bite/lick/Scratch and they stay away for good.

The knocking stuff over, especially things like drinks is new to me, so not sure the best remedy for that.

Re: Wrestling OT/LC Thread: 346 Days Until Christmas

Looking for folks who watched Capitol Wrestling in the late '50s and early '60s to share their memories. Capitol Wrestling, of course, was the Northeast territory that evolved into the WWE. If you know any such ppl PM me and I'll give you the link to pass along to them.

The mere mention of an old wrestling organization that I've never heard of causes me to say:

Moorobot, you bastard, get back on this board.

My thoughts on the Best Picture nominees.

8th - Bohemian Rhapsody - What the ****? How did this get nominated? With almost every BP nominee, even if it's not my cup of tea (e.g. Manchester by the Sea, The Revenant, The Shape of Water), I can at least understand how an intelligent movie watcher could believe that it was the best film that year. I can't with this one. How can someone watch that and say "Yup. Nothing better than that." It's got a great performance by Rami Malek...and...? LOL at this winning the Golden Globe for Best Drama.

7th - Vice - Tried way too hard to be The Big Short 2. It just didn't work. There's just nothing funny about Dick Cheney, and it showed here.

6th - A Star Is Born - Solid performances all around. It's just nothing super special. It's a pretty standard boy meets girl romance, never really rising above others in that genre.

5th - Green Book - WAY too heavy-handed with the "racism is bad, mmkay" (and I would totally understand if you hated it solely because of this), but I enjoyed watching it enough. Would be a travesty if this takes home the Best Picture trophy though.

4th - Black Panther - It was very good for a superhero movie, but not really Best Picture material. I'm expecting works of art. This was as if there was a contest to make the best chocolate bar in the world, and a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup made the finals. I love Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, but there's no way they are in contention for the best thing ever. The fact that this is 4th speaks more to the competition than the quality of the film.

3rd - BlacKkKlansman - A much better handling of race and humor than Green Book. Adam Driver is getting most of the praise (and the Supporting Actor nomination), but I thought the true supporting star was Topher Grace as David Duke. That performance was haunting.

2nd - The Favourite - I was expecting a Phantom Thread style snoozefest, and was delighted to get something that was anything but. I'm not normally a fan of period pieces like this, but there was enough humor to keep my interest the whole time. Screenplay was fantastic; all three women gave outstanding performances.

1st - Roma - Normally my favorite screenplay is my favorite movie, but not this time. This is just a wonderful piece of film making. It took a little bit longer to grab me than I would have liked, but once it did, I was hooked. Just absolutely beautiful. Really hope this wins.

I was going to ask for your thoughts. Glad you reposted here. Your tepid-to-negative reviews for 4 through 8 make me think that this is another weak year?

Unfortunately I haven't seen a single nominee this year. I plan to tune in to the Oscars anyway.

It's better than last year, especially at the top. But it's certainly not a great year like 2015 or 2013. I'd put it about on par with (or maybe a hair behind) 2014.

Oh man, i am 1000% in for guest ring announcer Tommy Wiseau.

Also, see the Room immediately. Did you and LKJ get together to form some secret pact against me?

Wtf?

Rediscovering this clip via Talking Simpsons was like remembering about a song that you once loved, then forgot, then were reminded of it like 20 years later:

I can still remember gasping for air over the "pull my arms out with my face" line back when this episode was new.

Pull my arms out with my face was one of the funniest things I had ever seen to that point.

I only periodically check in on Jeopardy (to wait anxiously for someone to make a mathematical error, at which point I root furiously for them to lose), but Alex Trebek feels like such a part of society's fabric that I hate seeing this news that he's facing a serious cancer diagnosis.

I would guess that they would continue producing Jeopardy after Trebek, but it's incredibly difficult to imagine another full-time host.

Re: Wrestling OT/LC Thread: 346 Days Until Christmas

I'm truly crestfallen at the thought of the Browns finally being good. I promise you with everything I have that Cleveland fans do not deserve good, and the country is assuredly deeply confused on this point due to its childlike belief that losing for a long time is a sign of nobility.

On the flip side, it would serve Dvo right for not showing the killer instinct necessary to enjoy stomping on their throats for as long as they were bad.

Anyway, hopefully things fall apart despite being very promising on paper.

FFS, I made that post before Twitter started dropping hints of Earl Thomas possibly joining Cleveland too.

Again, this news would all be much easier to take if society wasn't so ****ing stupid about how to choose rooting interests to begin with.

Strangely happier to see Earl Thomas land in Baltimore, even though that's another utterly detestable franchise. There's comfort in knowing that people won't bandwagon the Ravens in significant number even if he helps them become great again.

When I had a cat I generally fed her 2 small meals a day and she never got fat. I think your cat sounds bored LKJ. I'm pretty sure my cat would have been a right little madam if I hadn't been able to let her have some time outside during the day.
