This marks the third unacceptable SB matchup of my viewing lifetime. Steelers-Cardinals was the first. Harbaugh Bowl was the second. At least with both of those I rooted for the winning villain. I badly didn't want this matchup, but I'll just have fun playing the heel since there are few places that hate the Patriots more than Indianapolis.

What a dog**** game. So fun to watch two teams with zero defense throw the ball around for 60 minutes.

So, so happy for Edgar Martinez. My favorite athlete in any sport ever, despite baseball not being my #1 sport.

Well deserved.

Stunned that a unanimous induction happened this year. Really thought it might never happen.

Especially stunning to me that the first unanimous induction was a closer. With so many traditionalists lined up to deny Edgar on the basis of him being a DH, it stands to reason that there would be some of the same who also would wish to deny Rivera, at least on first ballot. Obviously Rivera is hugely deserving, but it's odd that he would be the first to get the unanimous honor since he's far from the first to be a no-brainer.

Let the record show that Edgar went 11-for-19 against Rivera in their careers. Not off of Rivera, but this was easily my favorite sports moment ever at least until the Marshawn Lynch Beastquake run in 2011:



I didn't collect sports memorabilia for long, but my most prized memorabilia possession is a pair of autographed game-used Edgar batting gloves.

Glad that Jim and True North came in to champion The Good Place. I've delved back in and am enjoying it quite a bit.

Entire cast does a great job, the material is interesting to me, the jokes land well, and I think the writers do a good job of not dragging out storylines for the sake of filling time. They end up being as long as they need to be to get the point across and move on.

Glad you're liking it. The first two seasons are on netflix and the third ended this week on nbc.com if you feel like catching up completely.

Dude with no first-aid training performed CPR based on that episode where they learned how to do it at Dunder Mifflin.

Jack Swagger just got his 1st win in his 1st fight in Bellator. Fought a +525 can but his wrestling looked solid as expected. Took a pretty good punch as he went in to grapple, but got through it, took the guy to the ground with ease, landed a few elbows then choked him out.

Solid performance, and he physically looks really good

I'm now through season two of The Good Place. When I posted my earlier compliment it was before the season 1 finale changed the series. I'm still enjoying it, though I think I differ from True North's opinion of it getting better and better. It sort of comes and goes for me.

In terms of best network comedies since the last NBC Thursday golden age, I would personally put Brooklyn Nine Nine above it, but it's good and I'll keep watching.

I really need to get into Good Place. I saw the Trolley Problem episode and from that alone it’s potential was clear.

By the way, Jason on The Good Place is legitimately never funny or interesting, and I do think it's a bit of a drag on the show. Still enjoying the show though.

The only 99 scene I've watched is when he starts singing "I want it that way" by the backstreet boys and I thought it was pretty funny. I'll have to check it out.

Glad you gave The Good Place another shot. I think it does a lot of things well and I had a good time rewatching season 1 and catching all the little things I missed.

I agree that Jason is the weakest link. I am a huge fan of Eleanor, Michael, Chidi, and Janet though and they pick up the slack on Jason and Tahani a lot.

Comparing the two shows isn't the greatest direct comparison because Brooklyn Nine Nine is almost entirely slapstick while The Good Place is much less over-the-top. I do see that Nine Nine has the slightly higher IMDb score.

It's surprising to me that Michael Schur is behind Nine Nine. The Good Place feels much more Schur-like, I'm sure in part because he constantly utilizes Parks & Rec alums for minor characters. In any case, Schur's resume is really getting impressive.

Oh, it's as lovely as you can imagine. Glad the forecast is indicating a bounce-back to normal winter temperatures in just a couple of days. Hoping that January/February 2014 remains the gold standard for winter awfulness for a good while longer.
