Re: Wrestling OT/LC Thread: 346 Days Until Christmas

Yeah, I put in focused play sessions with him. It seems to be of limited use in successfully tiring him out. I try to politely reason with him to convince him to spend some of those sleep hours on the hours that I'm home, but unfortunately he seems to be resistant to learning English.

There's always benadryl. Or as we parents call it "mommy's little helper."

Re: Wrestling OT/LC Thread: 346 Days Until Christmas

The sidewalks of downtown Indianapolis are suddenly flooded with motor scooters that people rent, drive, and drop off wherever. They look fun - I haven't tried them yet - but they seem hazardous to have zipping along the sidewalks. As a frequent pedestrian they keep buzzing past closely enough that I fear that I'm going to get clipped one of these times.

The other day I stopped and noticed a parked one and saw that the company/manufacturer name was Lime. Now I wander the streets of Indianapolis, shaking my head and muttering, "Too many Limes. Too many Limes."

Re: Wrestling OT/LC Thread: 346 Days Until Christmas

Speaking of Indianapolis... I watched an episode of House Hunters in the Indy suburbs, and these people were looking at 5000-6000 sq foot homes for under 500k.

Figured this was probably an old episode so I jumped on Zillow, and yep, that size, that amount in the subs of Indy.

So my question Is, what gives? You've been living there a while. Is crime rampant? Is the weather horrible? How are these prices justified? The only places I can find things remotely similar are in the flyover states (yes I know many consider Indianapolis as one, but Indy is close enough to some pretty major cities that I don't consider it in the same league as Kanasas or Nebraska.)

Re: Wrestling OT/LC Thread: 346 Days Until Christmas

It's a nice city. It's got bad areas like any other, but no particularly high crime rate. We have more moderate weather than Chicago; we get FAR less snow dumped on us during the winter. Apparently the downtown used to be pure ghetto, but downtown Indy is lovely now, and the fact that it's a relatively recent overhaul (within the past 20 years) means it's pretty fresh. Traffic is not bad compared to most big cities.

The primary criticism of it, aside from the horrible pothole problem recently, would be that it's unexciting, but IMO that's really only a problem for people who really demand to live in one of the very biggest and most exciting cities (NY, Chicago, LA). Personally, while I think that Chicago is awesome, living in Indy is more my speed. Might be to do with the fact that I favor violent castration of anyone who uses a car horn unnecessarily.

Lots of land, non-ridiculous commutes from said land to important places, would be my obvious guess.

I would figure both of those would drive prices up. Not down.

Is there a preferred suburb for schools?

Unfortunately no real idea on that question. I mean, presumably the answer is "yes," but I don't know which one it is.

Lots of land means more availability and less competition for developers who want to build houses, which means lower land prices, which means lower home prices.

Commute times (loosely reflected in population density in general) basically expand the area that people are willing to live in, which increases the virtual supply of acceptable properties, which means sellers are more in competition against each other, which means lower home prices.

I assume most similar sized cities are similar prices. Indy/columbus/Memphis etc.

Also LKJ we have 3 companies doing those scooters, it is ****ing annoying. They're strewn all over and you have people flying by at top speed all times. Really want to clothesline one person

Norm MacDonald says on one episode of his newest show (while interviewing Michael Keaton) that he exclusively listens to country music.
