I will watch this when I can download a torrent and skip all of the acceptance speeches and anytime Brantley Gilbert or Jason Aldean are on my screen. I will fill that space with rewatching Carrie Underwood performances.

I do not actually recall seeing either of those guys, so if they appeared then it would have just been brief cameos as crowd reaction shots (unless maybe either was part of the huge group performance at the start and I just missed them). I don't have any particular issue with Brantley Gilbert, but I'm most just ambivalent about him. Aldean is crap, and the fact that he has become a fairly big star is weird to me given how incredibly generic of a talent he is.

Thought it was a stronger CMAs than usual for the most part, with the occasional weak performance thrown in. Brothers Osborne were great. Really enjoyed Miranda Lambert. Maren Morris needs to stop letting herself get exposed by actual live broadcasts, because I like her recorded stuff but find that every time she performs on award shows she's a pretty painful vocalist. Kelsea Ballerini also sounded dreadful, but unlike Maren that's not really a significant drop from the studio stuff.

I made my way through season 1 of Stranger Things, and I don't really see the big deal. It was okay.

Damn. I felt this way about season 2 but I really enjoyed 1

The premiere episode hooked me nicely, but after a few more episodes I found that I was kind of non-plussed. With an eight-episode season I was sort of pot-committed to see it through.

I didn't think it sucked or anything, but there's so much enticing TV that I'd like to get to that I do have some regrets if I sink time into something that makes me shrug.

Well, doesnt sound like itll be an issue for you, but I would definitely not recommend starting season 2 if thats how you feel

Yeah I'd sort of washed my hands of it. I do wish some more stuff would be set in the 80s; seems like one of the least-mined eras for TV and film, probably because the historical backdrop is fairly boring relative to other decades.

I haven't. Was aware of it but have never really heard people talk about it. You recommend?

Also let the record show that WSU is a ranked 9-2 team, and for some reason I️ was much more obnoxious about them ITT when we were 2-9.

The Temple of Doom is legitimately a pretty bad movie. On a scale of 1-10, Raiders of the Lost Ark would be an 8 or 8.5/10, and Temple of Doom would struggle to earn a 5. I don't understand why it seems to be almost unanimously treated as if it was a worthy sequel. (Last Crusade, on the other hand, WAS a worthy sequel, and left Temple of Doom in the dust as the clear weak link in the original trilogy.) Meanwhile, Godfather III is easily better than Temple of Doom, and is reviled as if it's horrible.

Agree. I’ve always found TOD to be an insufferable movie.

Is Godfather III good? I've seen the first two obviously, but have heard that the third one is awful and I don't want to ruin the series for myself, so I've never bothered to watch it.

It's far worse than I or II (which are my two favorites of all time), but yeah I like it on its own merits. I'm sure it helped that I went in with really low expectations. You'll find that the big two aggregators, RT and IMDB, don't actually label it as a bad movie. It gets ravaged because of how big of a drop it provides from Part II.

The fact that they didn't pony up the dough to bring Robert Duvall back is a shame (he asked for them to pay him half of what Pacino was getting, which doesn't seem unreasonable to me). And, fair warning: Francis Ford Coppola casting his daughter as Mary Corleone was malpractice, as she is an absolutely ATROCIOUS actress.

But I still think it's worth watching.

Another thing I'll say for GF III: I think that its general story arc brings the trilogy to a sensible, even poetic, conclusion. Whether you enjoy the actual execution of the film or not, I'm dubious that it could successfully ruin the first two for you.

Yeah, that kept turning up in my Twitter feed and I finally clicked on it a few hours ago. Leach never ceases to be entertaining.

I just wish I could muster any sort of reasonable hope of winning tomorrow night's game. This guy is my spirit animal: https://www.cougcenter.com/apple-cup...egas-line-odds

I’m going to be completely honest, and this is probably going to upset some of you: Because of history, both ancient and recent, I haven’t even seriously considered the possibility the Cougs will win this game.

Yeah I was watching, pretty surprised at what they've done the past two days. They started the season with a game where they were down 20 to a bad Texas Southern team before rallying for the win, and they were voted to be the worst team in the conference. But rallying past St. Joe's yesterday, then especially taking down St. Mary's today as a 17.5-point dog, is pretty impressive, and they're 5-0.

It was a bit maddening. They built up a 16-point lead with less than 10 minutes to go and were still running down the court and just firing up shots with 20 seconds left on the shot clock, no passes or anything. Not that I like to stall out entire halves or anything, but there has to be some common sense. Didn't seem at all necessary that St. Mary's wound up getting within 3 in the final minute.

Anyway, not confident that the winning continues, but that was as big of a win as I've seen Ernie Kent earn so far, and the team did look like they were at least fun to watch given their obsessive run-n-gun style.

Temple of Doom is good. It is a children's movie, but it is good. That is not to say that it's on Raiders or Crusade's level, but it is good.

As for the GF III comparison, Temple of Doom is better not only as a movie, but as a member of it's respective trilogy. Fight me.

"As a member of its trilogy" is not a particularly easy question to me, as the drop-off to Godfather III is probably close to as big as the drop-off from Raiders to Temple of Doom.

Like, to put grades on the relevant movies, I'd probably have it something like
Godfather - 10/10
Godfather II - 10/10
Raiders - 8/10
Last Crusade - 7.5/10
Godfather III - 7/10
Temple of Doom - 5/10

I do think that my view of GF III is significantly helped by the fact that I went in expecting a garbage movie based on its rep, and came out thinking, "Well it's definitely not THAT bad." It's understandable how people at the time saw it as a letdown, and if I viewed it that way I'm sure I'd be less charitable to it. As it was, I went in under no illusion that it could possibly reach the level of its predecessors.
