Fact.

Rewatching that video hit me with a fierce wave of 90s nostalgia.

Wait, Unchained Melody was a Billboard Top 10 for three different people before the Righteous Brothers?

Seemingly, yes. A decade before the Righteous Brothers released it.

Zillions of people have covered Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah," but Jeff Buckley's haunting rendition stands out as the best:

The undisputed GOAT cover (nothing remotely close):

This is my take for WOAT cover. I remember feeling pure rage the first time I heard it:

After thinking about this, I totally forgot that Sinead O Connor was not the originator of Nothing Compares 2 U so technically she would be my pick for best cover ever

That's a great song and I didn't realize it was a cover.

GOAT pretty much has to be one of these where a sizeable number of people don't even realize that the original exists. Johnny Cash "Hurt" is fantastic, but most realize that it's not his alone.

Torn is pretty much a go to karaoke song for me. It's fantastic. Add me to the list of people who didn't realize it was a cover.

If we're going with covers that are routinely noticed as covers then you have to add Mercury Blues by Alan Jackson.

Also, I want to comment on the Leonard Cohen discussion. The most famous version of Leonard Cohen singing Hallelujah is actually Cohen doing a cover of Buckley's cover which is a cover of John Cale's version which is a cover or Cohen's original version with some lyrics changed.

Listen to Malcolm Gladwell's podcast on the song. It's simply incredible.

I enjoy quite a few Alan Jackson songs, but Mercury Blues is kinda meh to me. He did that whole "Under the Influence" album that was nothing but covers. His cover of The Blues Man was probably my favorite of the bunch, though Pop a Top was good too.

Oh I've got to do this.

I just remembered what might be the WOAT cover: Madonna irresponsibly, inexplicably deciding to cover American Pie.

Friend of mine started trying to sell me on The Room tonight, talking about how it was the best bad movie ever. I wanted to shake my head bitterly and mumble "master" under my breath, but felt that would raise more questions than answers.

I see this GIF all the time, and Google image search has never gotten me a decent answer, so anyone know where it's from?

Well it's Steven Van Zandt and he's young and wearing a bandanna so I'm guessing it's from a Springsteen clip and not Sopranos. Outside of that I can't help you.

I read on another subforum here (can't remember which one, might have been politics) that the gif is a creation of someone on 2+2.

Probably politics because I saw that claim sometime within the last 6 months as well.

Tom Petty got reported dead by various sources on Twitter, then that was denied, but I saw a new headline saying that he was taken off of life support. I assumed that meant that reporters jumped the gun but that he was essentially doomed anyway. But nobody else seemed to run with this "taken off life support" thing, and I can't tell where things stand now.

Would be pretty great if he turns out to actually no-sell this reported death. As haggard as he has long looked, and as obvious as it is that he's done his share of drugs, I somehow found it pretty surreal to think of him dying as early as age 66.

I'm pretty convinced that never in the history of sports has the viewing of a play been improved by the masturbatory practice of a producer choosing to show the play from an artistic angle. "Let's show the kickoff return coming at us." "Let's show the incoming pitch from behind the catcher's ass." Go **** yourselves, wannabe movie directors.

Very true, with the notable exception that when they have the drones actually over the field for football that's fully awesome. As always, robots > humans.

Once upon a time, I started ranting in this thread on behalf of WSU and against UW when both were nationally irrelevant, and likely causing many scratched heads and people wondering who could possibly care about these programs. Tonight I declare that there's some sort of possibility of the WSU-UW game on Black Friday being the most nationally meaningful in history, possibly top 5 vs. top 5.

Am I getting ahead of myself? Yes. Hell, the Sonics will ship another world title before WSU ever does. But on a night like this I have to dream.

The season premiere of Curb last week was pretty good, but last night's was absolutely ****ing hilarious and I think it immediately enters the upper echelon of all Curb episodes.

I have seen about 5 episodes of Curb in my life. For whatever reason every episode I watched I loved, but just never watched it. I need to binge this ASAP

I've found curb to be a very hard show to binge. Larry is such an ******* the fact tends to weigh on you after 4 or 5

Sometimes Larry is a complete *******, but then there are other times that he's the victim and everyone else is wrong. Like this:
