Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty came out to present for best picture. When Beatty opened the envelope to announce the winner he paused, and Faye thought he was playing around trying to build tension because he wouldn't announce the winner. He finally told Faye to announce it, and she said LaLa Land won.

Everyone from the movie came up, and people starting making acceptance speeches. Then during the third one or so there was some commotion in the background and it came out that Moonlight actually won and not LaLa Land. Apparently someone gave them the envelope for Best Actress instead of Best Picture. It was extremely awkward.

I feel like I was inevitably missing something with regard to the final act of Moonlight.

I was digging the movie quite a bit at the 2/3 mark, and the final act wasn't terrible or anything, but it sort of left me shrugging. I watched it last night, so it's at least partially digested by now.

Right now I feel like I'd go
1. La La Land
-gap-
2. Manchester by the Sea
3. Moonlight
4. Hacksaw Ridge
5. Hell or High Water
-gap-
6. Arrival

Arrival the only one that I basically didn't like much at all. Hidden Figures and Fences still unseen. Am looking forward to both.

I can understand if people liked Moonlight and Manchester by the Sea. It just didn't do it for me.

Also, Lion was nominated for best picture too.

Oh right, I thought I might be forgetting one.

Manchester grew on me quite a bit since I completed the viewing of it. Hacksaw Ridge probably somewhat depreciated for me since I finished watching, mostly on the basis that in hindsight I find it difficult to separate from so many other war films, except that the true story underlying it is pretty great (which is more a tribute to that story than to the film, really).

What is Scorsese's best film? I've been rewatching them all in chronological order (feature length films only), and just finished Gangs of New York.

Goodfellas is really good, and probably the best so far, but Gangs of New York is fantastic.

Taxi Driver was pretty meh to me, and Casino was good for the first 95% of the film, but then just devolved in to a "slideshow" of what happened next.

The Aviator is next on my list, and I have fond memories of it, so hopefully it holds up.

I've got Goodfellas #1. Taxi Driver/Casino/The Departed clumped in a tier below it. Gangs of New York a half-tier below that grouping.

Didn't like Raging Bull. Haven't seen The Aviator or Wolf of Wall Street.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to The Dpearted again. I watched it fairly recently, but always really enjoy it.

I also remember really liking Shutter Island, but don't really remember anything about the movie itself, so we'll see.

For me, Goodfellas are Casino neck and neck as GOATs. I saw The Departed many years ago and don't remember at all, same for Shutter Island so couldn't have been great to me. I couldn't make it through TWOWS because bad. That's all I've seen from him.

Mean Streets is an excellent movie.

Another one I think that's good is Bringing Out the Dead. Not a lot of action, mostly dialogue, but I couldn't turn it off.
