I'm still expecting Washington to help Oregon get their season back on track. It's a twelve year losing streak, so I'm not allowing myself to be optimistic. Despite only being around for the last two defeats.

By the way, this got quoted in my Twitter feed after WSU's game got off to a good start earlier. I assume the original tweet was referring to the fact that this was the start of conference play. In any case, someone wasn't letting football be awesome:

Ah I was wondering why his markingout account went dead.

"If you believe in an Irish Whip anything is possible" is one of my fav quotes of all time.

I know he has or had that other one, but this one has been around all along. I just know that because we share favorite sports teams in common and it sporadically leads to those worlds-collide moments where I see him on Twitter when someone RTs/quotes him.

Since I literally never say anything inaccurate about UW, you probably could have just listened to me last week when I said that there was nothing to worry about.

Which one? I thought I learned my lesson last season about scouting for bridges after a slow start to the year.

Awfully impressive win by the Cougs tonight. Oregon and Stanford are now realistically eliminated in the division title hunt (particularly Oregon, who I'm happy to say legitimately sucks even though I was rooting for them to pull the upset today), meaning that WSU is really UW's last realistic obstacle to winning the Pac-12 North and possibly a lot more. Which basically means that the Washington State Cougars are singlehandedly fighting the war on terror.

...a lifetime of experience tells me that's not the best position for the world to be in.

EDIT: Love this screengrab from tonight.

So the Seahawks fanbase on Twitter blows up all happily because Carolina lost to drop to 1-4. Doubtlessly this is because of the fact that they knocked us out of the playoffs last year. They also continue to treat the Patriots as some sort of long-term blood feud (who, by the way, probably doesn't particularly care strongly either way about Seattle) because of the Super Bowl a couple of years ago.

...aren't teams supposed to try to beat us? Like, that's the point of why they're out there. That doesn't seem like anything to be agitated about. I'm all for hating on the greatest QB in football (Rodgers), but only because he's deeply unlikable, not because he's great. I can also understand holding a grudge if you think that a game was unrightfully taken from you or whatever, so I admit that a good chunk of my Pittsburgh hate is rooted in a certain loss just over a decade ago. But Carolina clearly deserved the win last year, and although it took a self-inflicted wound at the end, so did the Patriots the year before.

Greatness and accomplishment are things to respect, not to hate. Everyone does everything wrong.

(FWIW, I freely admit that the Seahawks fanbase in its present incarnation is pretty damn unlikable. That's what happens when you have to borrow heavily from the UW fanbase in order to fill the stadium.)

I could understand being bitter if your team never won the championship and hardly ever made the playoffs. Being bitter because a team took away the one chance you had. But the Seahawks won the title, and quite recently. Even then, if you are bitter at, say, the Panthers, wouldn't you want them in the playoffs in order to have a chance to avenge the loss? I really don't understand the point of hoping the team loses for the sake of losing. Unless the team is straight up cheating or has some kind of deeply unfair advantage.

To be fair, I could be misdiagnosing their motives, since I didn't see this sort of anti-Atlanta sentiment after that heartbreaking 2012-13 playoff loss where we came all the way back and then fell victim to the last-second FG. It might just be that a large segment of them buy into the Cam Newton hate.

The Seahawks fanbase also has an annoying complex about Andrew Luck due to an imagined rivalry with Russell Wilson, since the national consensus has long been Luck > Wilson since their rookie years. Even as someone who tends to root against the Colts, I find Luck to be one of the most likable QBs in the league.

Got a new recliner being delivered in a few days. On top of the price of the recliner, I was charged a delivery fee of $80 at the time of the transaction.

Is this a situation where I'm supposed to also throw a tip at the delivery guy?

As a person who used to work for tips and tends to overtip in most situations, there is no way I'm tipping a delivery driver when I'm already paying $80 for the delivery. One of my pet peeves in life is when I'm told how much I have to tip. I totally understand why gratuities are added on to checks of big parties, or why they take a % of the prize pool for the dealers in a tourney, just don't expect me to add anything more on top.

Yeah, zero chance I'm tipping the delivery driver and I tip on pretty much everything

My rule is always "if they tell me how much I'm supposed to tip or take it out themselves, that's all they get". Usually they would have gotten more.

Ehhh if the dudes carrying it in or something give him a tenner you cheap bastard. Moving furniture deserves way more love than some ******* driving a bag of food to you

I was under the impression this was one of those drop it off in your driveway type things. If they actually bring it inside and put it where you want it, tip them for sure.

I believe they'll bring the chair inside. It's just the one chair and there's no assembly or anything, but I'm cool with slipping them $10 if that's the thing to do. This is something that I just thought of today, and I did not know what the etiquette was. I always tip movers.

I subscribe to this philosophy as well, including the part where they probably would have gotten more. Slipping in an auto-grat doubtlessly leads to a bunch of unsuspecting customers getting double-dipped as it is.

$80 delivery fee sounds really high. Don't most places do that for free (included as part of the price of course)?

I don't really have a gauge on "usually." I furnished an apartment in one transaction and delivery like eight years ago, and I have it in my mind that delivery was $60, but I don't state that number with a great deal of confidence. This is my only furniture purchase since. If free is the standard then maybe I run bad. But I made this purchase from a La-Z-Boy store, so I would sort of expect them to operate in some reasonable proximity to industry standard.

It's probably either $x plus a $y delivery fee in one place vs. $x+y in another place with free delivery, so I doubt you're really "running bad".
