There's really no reason to put more than mustard on a hot dog.

You are not sucking me into this debate, but raw onions and relish aren't bad condiments either

I find salmon to be somewhat dull. I could happily eat shrimp until the ocean ran out, but salmon by itself doesn't have much flavor, and people always dress it up with lemon **** for a combo that I don't really understand the appeal of. Don't get me wrong, I'll eat any mainstream meat you put on a plate in front of me, salmon certainly included, but it lands on the expensive side of the scale without really justifying it to me, so it's nothing I ever actually buy. I realize that this paragraph has been a betrayal of my PNW roots.

Speaking of which, oysters are a pretty great grill food.

A late reply to this conversation, but I highly recommend the uncut Blu Rays of LOTR. Much longer (each movie is 2 x Blu Ray disks), but the additional exploration of the characters is well worth it--for example, we see a lot more from the cowardly Steward of Gondor and his relationship with the son he loved and the one he hated/sent on a suicide mission. Each film is really redone from the ground up, and there's never a sense that the additional scenes are simply tacked on. I rewatch them with the wife and kids every year or two and thoroughly enjoy the experience every time.

The omission of the bratwurst, in all its forms, from AJD's list renders it useless for me.

I love bratwurst and have it in my honorable mention. I should have listed it separate from sausage, but that is what I meant.

So I found The Martian to be compelling enough to keep me interested for 2.5 hours, and overall I definitely enjoyed, but man, Matt Damon plays about the least interesting, least human character that you could put in that situation. The whole thing was basically Cast Away on Mars, with Matt Damon being about a billion times less interesting than Tom Hanks was. I can't say I understand how he got an Oscar nomination for this movie. None of this is all that surprising to me. I always find Matt Damon's performances to fall under the category of "technically competent, but flat."

(I do think that this was a better overall movie than Cast Away despite Hanks acting circles around Damon in the respective movies.)

Damon's Mark Watney, while flat, is significantly superior to the book's Mark Watney, which actively annoyed me many times.

All of the astronaut characters were also far too cutesy or sarcastic or something for me too. Life-threatening situations that would evoke emotion out of basically anyone, and they just shrug everything off with "oh well lolz." I mean, it's a weird line of criticism from me since it's usually my MO to underreact to **** as well, and really if they were just able to handle the pressure somewhat robotically then that would be okay, but everything being a damn joke to them just made them all a lot harder to actually care about as a viewer.

Again I'm being more critical than my overall opinion of the movie, but I guess it's just frustration that it feels like they left a lot of potential untapped by just writing better characters.

Out of curiosity, what was the issue with book Watney?

Someone who thinks he's way more interesting than he actually is. Ever known a guy at work who every time he opens his mouth, the other people in the room look at each other and shake their heads thinking "please stop talking and go away"? Watney is this guy.

There was a bit of that with Damon's character in the movie, but it was toned down considerably.

Best example from the book: Watney finds a particular unit of measurement uncool, so he invents one called the "pirate-ninja". WTF. Worse still is that the "pirate-ninja" is equivalent mathematically to a certain number of Watts.

I'm here to join you.

It was a poor idea for me to even attempt to watch such a movie. It was everything that I don't go for.

I had no plans to watch it. It was on tv after something and after 45 or so minutes, I was plot committed. Still love Tom Hardy though

Mad Max is a like a PC gaming benchmark for films. Amazing to look at and technically impressive but no substance. I still loved it.

Yeah, there are some popular movies that I really dislike and genuinely wonder what the appeal was. Not so here; it was certainly at least a spectacle. Still, it feels like I let myself get duped into watching a high-end Michael Bay movie because it was so widely acclaimed.

I kicked off WrestleMania weekend by attending an independent show in my area. They announced that MVP would be appearing at the next show. He must have really fallen on some hard times. Wasn't he wrestling in Japan not too long ago?

He was in Japan and actually doing really well there. Then he went to TNA, they gave him a HHH authority type gimmick until he inevitably turned and was pushed as a main eventer. He became the leader of a Bullet Club rip off called the The Beat Down Clan which actually had some potential, Samoa Joe and Low Ki were members. MVP then ****ed up and made TNA bring in Hernandez for TBDC and they taped like 3 months worth of angles with him in a space of a week. Hernandez was still under contract to LU and they didn't clear him for TNA so TNA couldn't use any of the footage and basically fired everyone else in the TBDC including MVP. This all happened at the start - mid last year. He hasn't done anything of note since.

Why doesn't he head back to Japan? Do they not want him?

Instead, he'll be wrestling in front of 150 people in Regina, Saskatchewan, on April 29. I'll do my best to be in attendance.

Colt Cabana was also here a couple of weeks ago, but I missed that show.

Just googled and dirtsheets are saying that last night he announced he had signed with Lucha Underground. They let their talent work indy shows and Japan so he's probably in a much better position now than when he was with TNA.

Most of the wrestlers in the US that aren't in WWE sometimes do tiny Indy shows. TNA and LU don't really do house shows and ROH has a very small schedule. EC3, Galloway, Jeff and Matt Hardy all do tiny shows sometimes. AJ Styles was working some tiny shows on the side when working New Japan/ROH shortly before coming to WWE.

Good to see you again Wally. Within the past two weeks I can distinctly remember thinking of you and getting angry because the driver in front of me was making me sit there and wait while they backed into their desired parking spot.
