Yeah I guess that kills a decent bit of our overlap, though I'm going to catch up on this past decade. I'm at least doing a free month of Netflix for this month, might bug out again for December since I'll spend half that month visiting family, but then pick it back up in 2016.

I once tried a second viewing of Cuckoo's Nest and still couldn't see the big deal. Had the same experience with Vertigo, and I love Hitchcock.

Couple of amendments to my list above:
I've seen Annie Hall and definitely enjoyed it, but would put it in the "symptomatic of a weak year" category.
I see that Rocky beat Taxi Driver, which is pretty loony, so I guess I would move Rocky to "good movie, but shouldn't have won."

Though I'm an obsessive Godfather fanatic, mostly films from the 70s just aren't really my thing. I love stuff from the 90s and forward, and I love classics from the 60s and before, but the 70s and 80s just didn't produce stuff to my taste nearly as much.

Yup. A Few Good Men was nominated that year and was the WAY better movie to me, but...shrug. Two other nominees were Scent of a Woman and Howard's End, didn't really like either one. Never saw The Crying Game. Doesn't appear to have been a very strong year overall. But I'm a huge fan of A Few Good Men.

The other nominees in 92 when Unforgiven won were more meh than it was. I think there were two movies that weren't nominated that were easily better: Glengary Glen Ross and Malcolm X.

I thought a Few Good Men was amazing. Thats pretty shocking to learn which one won.

I haven't seen Malcolm X, but Glengarry Glen Ross was very good.

I've never seen The English Patient, which is probably due in significant part to Seinfeld having an episode about how it's slow and boring. I always feel like I should get around to it and actually bother confirming for myself.

I always hate how buried The Remains of the Day got in 1993. It got nominated for tons of awards, but got completely blanked because of top competition. I have no argument against Schindler's List for best picture, or against Tom Hanks in Philadelphia for best actor, but I still wish The Remains of the Day would have landed on a year that it didn't have such elite competition at every turn. Love that film.

I will openly admit that I may overrate Malcolm X just for the fact that Denzel Washington is in it. I'm a huge Denzel mark and any movie with him in it gets an automatic minimum 3 out of 5 stars

I like Denzel, though Glory is the only movie that comes to mind when I try to think of Denzel movies that I truly love. That's another one that should have been nominated for Best Picture and somehow wasn't. I'm not usually much for war movies, but that one is pretty GOATish.

American Gangster and Training Day are both top notch in my book. I will admit that Training Day may be one of the movies I overrate because of him. I could easily see that movie being a "meh" with someone else in his role

Flipped for me. Thought American gangster was meh and love training day but admittedly only saw American once like 8 years ago

Don't really know how Birdman will sit with me after I digest it, but my immediate reaction is that I liked it but didn't love it.

Yeah this was my immediate reaction as well. Liked it but didn't love it and thought it was exceptionally odd.

I haven't seen that one, and hadn't actually even heard of it until you just made that post and I searched it on IMDb.

Denzel is a good actor and I like him, but he just wouldn't occur to me when thinking of my favorite actors. Ed Norton, Anthony Hopkins, Russell Crowe, those are the first names that come to mind for me.

Oh holy ****, I was being facetious because the movie is campy. That being said, it's also one of my favorite guilty pleasure movies. That and The Fan with Snipes and Deniro

I 100% recommend Fallen to anyone who hasn't seen it.

Historically I'm somewhat selective about which recommendations of yours I follow.

Wait, have you seen The Fan?

Also, Fallen has John Goodman.

Yeah, John Goodman is good. And it's directed by the dude who directed Primal Fear. And it has a decent IMDb rating. I dunno, it's possible that I eventually watch it.

Haven't seen The Fan.

I highly recommend both. Maybe somebody else who has seen can recommend too

Alright, I added Fallen to my Netflix queue. I mean, I added it to the bottom, and my queue is currently long since I stocked the **** out of it a few days ago, but it's there at least. Non-zero chance I eventually get to it.

Am I to understand that Interstellar is going to be worth the nearly three hours in length that it nearly is? Can't say I realized how long it was when I put it in the top of my Netflix queue, but here we are.

Fallen is pretty average. I wouldn't call it bad, but it's nothing special.
