Well, they have a store card they'll just scan if you don't have your card or have a card at all, so you'll get the discount unless you expressly interest that you don't want to bother saving money. They can just give you a new card on the spot, too. I try to avoid all interaction by going to the self-serve machines (which unlike grocery stores, aren't terrible). Of course, the CVS closest to me inexplicably took them out, so now I avoid that one like the plague.

At least they're better than Walgreens, which doesn't give you money back/discounts for jacksquat ever unless you buy something specifically on-sale there (rarely anything useful). That and them wishing you "be well" after the transaction.

Yeah, I use the self-serve machines as well when applicable, but same deal with this place that they took them out. I should have just driven an extra mile to anywhere else. I will from now on.

If a gif has words in it, it is a whopping 20:1 favorite to be a bad gif.

Background: I lost my CVS card many years ago. Yes I suppose I should go to the trouble of getting a replacement, but I've found it easier just to avoid this one specific CVS.

The reason I avoid is that I just had at least the 6th or 7th occurrence with this same cashier (who apparently never leaves or something, I've run into her morning and night) who I sigh heavily when I see.

Her: "Do you have a CVS card?"
Me: "Yeah, can I give you my phone number?"
Her: "Okay, go ahead."
Me: "Area code 360..."
Her: "630."
Me: "No, 360."
Her: "6, 3..."
Me: "My area code is 360."
Her: "Alright, 6..."
Me: "No, I'm sorry. It's 3...6...0."
Her: "360?"
Me: "Yes."

I'm not exaggerating about the number of times. It is seriously always a minimum of four corrections before she stops insisting that my area code starts with six.

It's time for me to realize that I'm going full Burdz by even attempting to get the card discounts rather than just saying that I don't have a card. There's no way that a couple of bucks off is worth having that exchange. In mid-exchange I always want to just bail and say "never mind," but I figure that will come off even more abrasive than continuing to politely correct her, and at that point I might as well take the discounted money for my trouble.
I suppose you would know this by now, but can you punch your number in yourself in the credit card machine before they total your order? I do this at Food Lion - closest grocery store to me by a couple of miles - all the time. Occasionally, in an ode to my grandma who passed away five years ago (big wrestling fan, true story), I punch in her number to see if it still works. So far so good.

Yeah, no luck at that place with the phone number thing. I do that at one grocery store where I've misplaced my card.

Just baller up, say no, and pay the extra 23 cents for the cough drops, dude.

Again, it's never about the money, because LOL at me if it was. It's about getting through the transaction in the least painful way possible.

I generally have a reflex against lying that causes me not to say no, especially since this woman at least pretends to recognize me when I go in and I assume will realize that I'm lying for some weird reason.

As I said, I'll just forever boycott that specific store for my own sanity.

I think that asking people who don't live with you to help you move is the worst thing in the world unless you truly can't afford to hire the needed help. Any decent friend will say yes, though the vast majority of them will agree out of some sense of obligation and certainly not because they want to. The key in life is to never, ever ask anyone to do anything that they will only agree to out of feeling of obligation.

I'm moving soon, just locked in my next apartment, and a friend said at the end of an e-mail, "Let us know if you need help moving." I just stared at my screen, absolutely dumbfounded at the thought that anyone would ever put themselves in that position.

At the end of the day they got the best outcome possible: they score good friend points, and of course I declined the offer because I would feel way too weird about accepting.

Well, at least we've identified the problem.

(Here, let me help you: when they ask you if you have a CVS card, the answer is "no". It's not even lying. You don't have one. You did, but you lost it.)

It's only a dick move to ask a friend for a favor, IMO, if you have little or no contact with them otherwise, and haven't gone out of your way to help them. I asked my friend to help me move (not a ton of work), but I did get him his current job (which he has excelled at but wouldn't have known about otherwise since he had another job at the time I referred him & wasn't looking).

Well I wouldn't expand what I was saying to being a stance against asking all favors. I was specifically singling out asking for moving help.

Or I guess more generally I'm saying that I wouldn't ask someone for a favor that I wish they would never ask me to do for them. And that category has just the one thing in it that I can think of. Happy to do all kinds of favors for my friends.

I watched Silver Linings Playbook because it was supposed to be good.

Slight problem: it wasn't very good.

Not only was it not very good, it had one of the worst third acts I have ever seen in any movie.

I'm amazed that you were able to make a movie-related post in this forum without mentioning The Room.

Funny story, I had originally typed that post praising the third act of the room being better than the third act of SLP
