My "Jeremy Renner" flub is twice as funny since I'm like a week removed from laughing hysterically at someone in OOT writing an extensive post about Dumb and Dumber and repeatedly referencing Jeff Bridges as one of the co-stars.
Lol, I've been thinking of that too. I forget what surname he assigned to Harland Williams that was ridiculous.

I got a good lol out of your Alec Baldwin thoughts, too. Makes sense.

Only place to watch The Father is on Prime for $20?

Yeah, I can’t see any rental options for less than $20. I assume that it will come available elsewhere within a month or two.

It's possible I'm speaking only for myself there.

I could partially detach myself from what happened in Still Alice as a freak medical occurrence that was unlikely to ever replicate itself with anyone I know.

Whereas The Father had several scenes that could have been direct copy-and-paste with experiences from my life.

Reminds me of when I lived in WA and used to get together with a friend to watch 24 each week. In one of the later seasons, Bob Gunton was cast to play the Chief of Staff to the President, played by Cherry Jones. My friend kept casting shade on this character all along as a potential bad guy, but I wasn't buying it. I actually don't think that character ended up turning heel, but there was a scene along the way that suddenly made it look like my friend was probably right. As he tried to exercise bragging rights, I said, "Dude, I'm not giving you credit for this. I'm almost 100% sure that your entire basis for suspecting him was, 'he's Bob Gunton.'"

My disdain for Aaron Rodgers is well-documented. And because he’s been such a dominant franchise, he has caused me to hate the Packers.

Given this cause and effect, it’s sort of odd that this “Rodgers wants out of GB” story causes me to react with, “HAHA, yeah, **** the Packers!”

I'd love to see a live feed of Aaron Rodgers during the draft while GB selects another QB in Round 1

Terrell Owens was another player I couldn't stand. I went from being a person who liked the Eagles to hating them vociferously when they picked TO up. And then, when TO went to Dallas, and the Cowboys played the Eagles, I rooted for TO and Dallas to beat Philadelphia on the basis that Philly should have their faces smashed into the ground forever as a punishment for resorting to having ever signed TO to begin with.

There's a contradiction in there, but I just wasn't about to let the Eagles off the hook by seeing them as the protagonist in that matchup again simply because TO had moved on. That's like rewarding the dumbass face turn where the guy turns face simply because the heel faction kicks the **** out of him and kicks him out of the group. There was also an additional principle at play: when a team I either dislike or don't care does something I don't like...whatever. But when you have me on your side, and then you gravely disappoint me? **** you. **** you forever.

I think think players like TO or Chad Johnson were illustrative of the principal that teams will put up with a lot of unnecessary drama in exchange for elite offensive production; however, as those skills decline to merely average, teams will insta-pass on those personalities. Players like this could play another 3-4 years as role/players had they just kept their heads down vs. constantly demanding the spotlight.

TO actually made his last stop in Seattle - just ended up being a cut at the end of training camp - and didn't seem to be too much of a pain when he was around. If he was, it wasn't public. It seemed clear that there was a fair chance it was his last shot, so I think he gave it a good professional go, but Father Time had caught up with him. He didn't look bad, but he didn't look particularly good anymore.

Still, your theory may easily be correct; he was a borderline roster decision, and if he had a better long-term reputation for professionalism then the decision may have tipped the other way.

Q: Do you have a favorite episode that you’ve written, out of the fifty-nine?

A: I don’t have one I prefer over all the others, but I do have some favorites I always enjoy watching. “Itchy & Scratchy & Marge,” “Bart the Murderer,” “Dog of Death,” “Homer at the Bat,” “Homie the Clown,” “Bart Gets an Elephant,” “Homer’s Enemy,” and “Homer vs. the Eighteenth Amendment.”

Q: You mentioned “Homer’s Enemy,” which has to be one of the darkest half hours ever on television. It’s about an upstanding, decent, and hardworking character named Frank Grimes, who’s driven mad by Homer. At the end, Grimes accidentally electrocutes himself, and then Homer snores and talks in his sleep at Grimes’s funeral, to the amusement of the attendees. Not what James Brooks might refer to as a “lot of heart.”

A: Grimey was asking for it the whole episode. He didn’t approve of our Homer. He was asking for it, and he got it. Now what was this you were saying about heart?

I mean I definitely regard Grimes as the good person in that episode, yet I've always loved the episode. It feels like the type of thing that should make me go the other way, but I'm locked into being a huge fan of that ep. It just felt too true to life, the way people who clearly should know better just deciding to insistently double down in defense of someone who completely sucks. I couldn't help but appreciate the reality of it.

The lesson I took from the episode is that Homer gonna Homer, and the one thing Grimes failed to control was his own reaction to Homer’s Homerisms. It is Grimes allowing Homer under his skin to that degree that ultimately led to his demise. Obviously Lenny, Carl et al made peace with Homer’s buffoonery and survived the episode just fine.

Lenny and Carl aren't annoyed by Homer to begin with. Yes, they acknowledge that he's an idiot who shouldn't be in charge of plant safety, but they seem genuinely puzzled by Grimes finding him so agitating. That doesn't strike me as being the same thing as being two people who find him irritating but who have learned to cope with the situation effectively.

I crammed enough into my brain to learn how to parallel-park for the driving test, but I basically then forgot it. I have a general idea of how to do it still, I can picture the steps in my mind's eye, but it just never comes up and I expect it would be a greasefire if I ever try again.

This is pretty much exactly my experience too.

I could parallel park almost perfectly when I did my driving test, but I've hardly had any need to do so at any time since that and if I had to do it now, I'd probably have to settle for a car parked halfway into the street.

My driving instructor had these benchmarks for the car we used based on what showed in the mirrors and on certain points of the windows - it was like "when you see X here, you do Y" and since the driving test was done in his car, that worked out just fine.

Luckily, I've hardly ever needed to parallel park in my 25+ years of having a licence - that may have something to do with me generally living ruraly and, on the few occasions when I've needed to park in more populated and busy areas, being good at going "no - that's too tight. That can't be done. We need to find some place else" in a very convincing voice.

I got the full 7 points off on my driving test on the parallel park. I think I ended up at near a 45 degree angle because I didn't want to hit another car (instant fail). I just put it in park and said "I'm done".

It took 20 points to fail and I knew that was going to be my biggest problem, so I just decided to eat the 7 points for that task.

I'm better at it now.

Am I the only one who can parallel park on the right side fine but struggle when it’s on the left side of the street ?
