However, it feels like Jim and Pam were still enjoyable characters past that.

Despite the fact that Florida Stanley was GOATish, I definitely feel like the Florida part is when the show actually descended toward being legitimately bad. It was very, very slowly bleeding out from years before, but it remained one of the best things on TV until late in the series.

My vote goes to Florida, with the runner-up being that there was no one jump-the-shark moment where it died. I don't think I'm buying the departure of Michael or the Jim/Pam wedding, just because it feels like there was still strong stuff directly after both.

Always glad to chat about Office stuff. I think the Florida trip is definitely one of the lines of big drop offs. I cannot emphasize enough how much I dislike the first iteration of Nellie and the moment she sits in the managers chair back in Scranton is a sign that we're in store for some of the most rough times the show has.

On the brighter side of that (definitely downward overall) arc, when I think The Office goes to Florida, one of the first things I think of is Stanley randomly traipsing through Jim's room and mumbling, "Careful Jim, it gets easier and easier..." Great line.

If we were to cast the office with people from the wrestling forum I 100% have you as Stanley

I don't think I'm very Jim. I just am uncreative and pick user names based on what I'm watching at the time.

Yeah, that Stanley line was so good.

Also are we all in agreement that Packer is the worst character on the show and furthermore the dude that plays Packer is pretty unfunny in ~ everything else I've seen him in?

Nah, I like Koechner.

I've definitely got Packer as the worst. At least with other unfunny characters, the stupidity wasn't aggressively in your face the whole time. Nellie could be one of five people in a scene and not always be at the center of it, but Packer would just take the air out of the room so that we would all have to sit and concentrate on him not being funny.

I've never enjoyed Koechner in anything else either.

It's like having a great TV show, and then a character based on GREEAR gets dropped into the middle of it to ruin the occasional episode.

That said, this guy is pure nails on chalkboard and not at all funny in anything I've ever seen him in:
I've softened on him. He's funny sometimes.

Based on the IMDb ratings graph, it looks like I wasn't alone in seeing this show as a slow starter that eventually hit its stride.

Alright the women on Office Ladies have to be lying at some point. They didn't love EVERYONE they worked with.

I'm definitely always keeping a sharp ear for anything Angela Kinsey says about Paul Lieberstein since she married and then divorced his brother. Seems like she very rarely references him though.

Hat tip to this thread for the Six Feet Under rec. I've meant to finally dive in for a bit, but I did tonight. Pilot is incredible, second episode is very strong. Pretty sure I'm going to love the **** out of this.

I absolutely loved that show. In 2007 I bumped my netflix subscription to 5 discs at once so I could tear through it.

Sigh. Have been very invested in the Ryan Leaf recovery story. This sucks.

I don't have very high hopes in Edge and Orton being the greatest match ever.

How is 6 Feet Under coming along?

Still very much digging it. I haven't been on any huge binge, as I'm only eight episodes in, but not 15 minutes ago I was texting a friend to recommend it after watching my latest episode.

By the way, did anyone here watch The Americans? Despite significantly different subject matters, I keep wondering about how I'm going to compare the two series finales, because The Americans probably currently holds my title for favorite series finale of a drama ever (and was a great show otherwise).

With Mad Men, I just have to try to forget that the finale happened.

I suppose one quibble I have with Six Feet Under is its insistence on using the CSI-style start to each episode. “Here’s a person dying, and this is what the Fisher clan will be working on this week.” Just feels like a lazy crutch.

But again, just a quibble with a show I’m very much enjoying.

The beginning of season 3 of Six Feet Under has been a pretty significant nosedive.

I watched Mad Men recently and whilst I really enjoyed it and feel like it got better as it went on it never really did anything to draw me into wanting to watch the next episode. I can't imagine sticking with it season after season week after week despite it really enjoying it.

6FU is great but has it's problems. I agree that the episodic story arcs can feel a little forced and I just find some of the characters a bit messy overall. I also think it has the most over-rated finale of any TV show ever the more I think about it.

Watching Dead to me at the moment and mid way through season 2 I think it's run it's course and now the characters are just repeating stuff.

Obligatory watch "you're the worst" because it's possibly my favourite show ever. Which is actually the best ending to a tv show ever.

I also realise that I really miss watching Louie that was great, some of the little 2-3 episode stories were so good.

I can't even defend Mad Men on the basis of its story arcs necessarily, but the characters were fantastic and it delivered any number of just fantastic scenes.

I watched a few episodes of Mad Men a while back and found it rather boring and pointless.

I got in quite late and may have had too high expectations because of how highly praised it is, but still... I felt I gave it enough time to where it should've grabbed me if it was actually good.

For reals? I looked it up based on earlier mention and it doesn't seem like my kinda thing.
