"It creates a slightly more convenient situation for me later, **** everyone else" is of course not a defense at all.

I don't throw any sort of fit, of course. I quietly seethe, mentally categorize the person as "just the worst kind of person," and move along when the person is done indulging their selfish parking practices.

I feel like LKJ has about 98% of the world's population in this group.

Let the record show that I was making an obscure call-back to this post from a little over five years ago.

I'm not sure I've ever backed-in to a parking space. Sure, quick getaway, but I feel like the whole process takes far more time than just pulling in and out overall. I'm rarely in parking garages or parked in a driveway onto a main street (the times I do drive), so I don't see what the big fuss is all about.

I got into an accident in a parking lot a few years ago where I was backing out and someone who was also backing out on the other side of the aisle collided with me. I started backing in most times after that, unless it was obviously and massively inconveniencing others. I do it less now that I have a backup camera.

Obviously it's far more reasonable if it arises from legitimate safety concerns (or just accident avoidance for monetary reasons I guess, at parking lot speeds), though I don't get the sense that most back-in types are doing it for that reason since everyone I've hassled about this (my dad is one of these) just cites the after-the-fact convenience.

I'm very paranoid about backing out and I guess it always seems like hyper-awareness can protect you to a high degree when backing out.

The only time it is acceptable is when you find a three consecutive spots empty, out of the way and they end at a curb. Other than that those people suck.

What are your feelings on the "pull through"? That's when the spot you pull into is open and the one it backs up against is also open and you drive through and park in the second spot?

There's nothing wrong with backing into a spot as long as you aren't hindering anyone.

I pull through all the time and will continue doing it.

I always pull through if it's available, provided that I have a good enough sight line of the far aisle to be sure that no cars are coming through with the imminent potential to turn into the spot also. Doesn't seem like anyone is disadvantaged by that.

To be clear, this is my position as well, obviously emphasizing the last part.

You hit on the point I wanted to make. It drives me nuts when someone blindly pulls through and takes the spot I was going to take. There is just no common courtesy left in the world

I just don't see the negligible difference in time between driving past and backing in then pulling out forward versus nosing in and backing out. It's about even, if you're not goofy.

I think it's safer to pull out from your space into the lot traffic as opposed to backing out into the traffic. It's much easier to see cars and people when you pull out

I actively search for those spots and will always drive through if available.

Yeah, I could also add that in the absence of inclement weather I'll generally park further away just to get a good pull-through situation.

I find myself rooting for the Astros in this year's playoffs.

I am a sham who apparently stands for nothing in this world.

Nothing wrong with that. Any true baseball fan is rooting against the Bums

As I don't keep up with the NL, my World Series rooting is mostly always just an up-or-down decision on the AL representative. I just can't hate on this Houston team.

Same, they are a really scrappy ass team. I would root for them regardless, because **** the dodgers, but I've enjoyed watching the Stros a ton this postseason.

Even to the extent that a policy where you root for long-suffering fanbases to win is a good one (it isn't), it shouldn't extend to teams from transplant-heavy states like California and Florida. Though every single team in existence obviously has their diehards, in general the largest part of these fanbases do no real suffering at all; when the team is in bad shape, the locals just forget the sport exists until the team gets good again.

(Obviously this effect exists everywhere, but it's much more extreme in some places than others.)

These games, while tight, are not very entertaining so far.

I've been pretty entertained since I turned on the game in the 7th.
