Understandable thought to be fair, but as a Washington State University grad, no. Not that I would recommend being a fan of my team either though.

There's no shame in how they played Saturday night. Was a great game.

There's really never any shame aside from when Ryan Leaf pops up in headlines. It's just that it's a life of waiting for a team to only ever potentially be great like once a decade or so.

They do fine for what they are; college football is a world of natural haves and have nots, and of course the school out in the middle of the wheatfields in eastern WA is only going to be able to do so much in an attempt to be consistently competitive with schools twice our size in LA, Phoenix, Seattle, and the Bay Area. Recruiting against basically every other conference school is tough sledding. So it is what it is; you hope to hit lightning in a bottle and spike a couple of great recruiting classes once in a while, and hope to parlay that into the occasional Rose Bowl (our last was in 2003).

It's just that if a person was going to randomly latch onto a college football team, it wouldn't make much sense to latch onto one that is at inherent competitive disadvantages with everyone they compete with. It would make more sense to latch onto a team like UW who at least recruits to a major metro area and seems to have a significant amount of media in their back pocket.

Granted that the fanbase is the biggest bunch of delusional ****ing idiots to grace the planet (they literally ALWAYS think that the Huskies are far better than they are, they CONSTANTLY think they're right on the brink of being a national power), and worse yet they're arrogant as hell based purely on...I don't know. They seem to think that the fact that they were elite for a few seasons nearly a quarter of a century ago gives them license to be delusional and arrogant forever. At least other programs' fanbases offer reason for their fans to be cocky. And at least I can proudly say that my own school's fans keep it real at almost all times with regard to how good or bad we can reasonably expect to be. To hell with UW, they're the absolute worst thing in the world.

In conclusion: enjoy your new team, Dylan!

Huskie fans are pretty bad from what I've seen so far, but It seems to go along with the territory here. People are like, Mariners crazy right now, and the Mariners haven't been relevant since Ichiro was.

I'm mildly sympathetic with being a bit fairweather in baseball just because of the time investment involved. I always watch the first month or two of the year even when we're bad, and that includes paying for the MLB.tv package from across the country to try to follow them even when they play a ton of 10 p.m. weeknight games, but at some point I do throw up my hands and say "alright I get it, it's another lost season." It's just so many hours to put in to keep watching intently through September when they're not relevant, especially given that it's an organization who has often unashamedly tried to pitch that people should come to games for tangential entertainment not related to the product on the field. Unfortunately they seem to be pissing their chance away this year as well, though at least they gave me a full season to watch.

I have a lot of good things to say about the foundation of Seahawk fans who would have our stadium 2/3 full no matter what, but admittedly the types who fill it the rest of the way when we're really good are pretty terrible.

The awkward thing is that I agree with them 100% about all things Oregon. I hate those bastards too. With that said, knowing their level of contempt for Oregon helped me enjoy David Shaw's response when Steve Sarkisian accused Shaw of having his players dive and fake injuries late in the game to slow Washington's hurry-up offense down (note: one of the players he accused of diving really sold the dive by being out for the last 8 games of the season as a result of said fake injury.)

Shaw did an interview and was asked for his comments about those accusations. Among the things he said in reply: "We don't have our players take dives. We obviously didn't do that against Oregon, so why in the WORLD would we do that against Washington?" That shot...it worked on multiple levels and had me in full blackkidohhh.gif mode.

The fairweather thing hits close to me being from south Florida. I can't even be mad when people hate on Miami fans because, well, the vast majority of them suck. At least I can say that I sat there at Joe Robbie (that will be its name forever) and watched 25 games of Todd Dunwoody and Mark Kotsay manning the outfield in 1999 while they won like 65 games so I DESERVED seeing that 2003 ring.

That year was crazy. You could go to the stadium at 6:55, park right near the front, and get seats directly behind the plate for dirt cheap because nobody was there. Then in 03 during the playoff run you couldn't find a ticket anywhere. Bastards not putting in their dues.

Everything changes if JT "White Lightning" Snow isn't running the basses in 2003. Then again, Dusty never did understand how to use pinch runners effectively

I mean of course Florida/California/Arizona fanbases are bad as a general rule, not so much because the passionate fans are awful (see: Philadelphia/Boston/Chicago fans) but because those states are full of transplants and you're obviously just going to find a lot less community pride and attachment in those fanbases than you will elsewhere.

The bandwagon thing is really annoying though because of exactly what you said, the non-payment of dues. Hell, I don't just limit that annoyance to adult bandwagoners...I'm jealous as hell of a 10-year-old in Seattle now. Oh, you get to start right off rooting for Russell Wilson? That's nice. I only had to live through five combined years of Stouffer, Kemp, Gelbaugh, McGwire, and Mirer just to get to semi-acceptable stopgap QBs Friesz, Moon, and Kitna. Not that they won anything either.

I've had a really weird sports fan lifespan. When I was 10-13 my favorite football team was one of the best ever, my favorite hockey team (was just getting into hockey) was a year away from the cup, and my favorite baseball team had just signed the biggest star in the game and we're saved from moving by a grocer.

Things were great for a while, then the football team started to fall off. 2002 saw the long suffering baseball team have the biggest disappointment ever at the hands of a monkey and thunder sticks, and 2003 saw the last cup I was going to see for a long while. From 2003-2010, all three of the teams were legit dog****, to the point that I gave up on sports nearly completely in 2008.

Now I'm in the midst of a possible baseball dynasty, one of the top 3 football teams in the game, and a hockey team that nearly won a cup with a 41 year old goalie.

Strange man.

By the way, I reject the notion of Florida having superior weather to ~anywhere. Not that I've ever been there, but I figure when it comes to something as measurable as climate I can just believe what I read.

People who like summer way better than fall and spring are just weird IMO. Temperatures that are just warm enough >>>>>> temperatures that are super hot.

Agreed. Seattle does seem to have the perfect climate for those of us who think that way. Rain be damned, give me 85 degree summers and 55 degree fall/winter/spring

Mr Iván Rodríguez Torres was having no part of that.

Also, not that it's better, that was Felipe Alou. We beat loldusty and the lolcubs with lolprior and lolwood in the nlcs

That's the price you have to pay for having a Hall of Famer for years before. We were coming off of the Dave Krieg era. I loved Krieg, he was the QB when I first became a fan, but HOFer he was not.

Also the run of bad QBs could have ended sooner but the Seahawks did scoop Matt Hasselbeck out from under the Dolphins when they thought they had a trade in place for him.

Also you probably could have included Jay Fiedler. Not that he was anything great, but he was serviceable and did lead the Dolphins to at least one playoff appearance.

Florida weather is great because it's constant. 10 months of the year its going to be between 85 and 94, it's going to be mostly sunny with scattered showers, and when it does rain the thunderstorms last for like 20 minutes. The other two months of the year it's either really hot (like 100 and humid) or "cold" and in the 50s, but you still don't really need to have a different wardrobe or anything.

I don't think it's BEST though. Even after living there, I'd have San Diego ahead of it. It's not as humid there (or at least wasn't when I went) and is still consistent and pleasant.

That's fair. Let's agree to hate the Colts forever for their insane run good.

I didn't list him because I thought he was pretty solid. Nothing great, but nothing to really hate about either. Also left off Pennington.

I sort of do. I live in Indianapolis and naturally Colt fans make up a big percentage of my friends, so I try to play nice with the Colts so that I'm not some huge obnoxious thorn in their side, but I'm genuinely still pissed about our week 5 regular season loss to them last year despite the fact that we won the Super Bowl. I also really REALLY hate this thing where they feel like they get two teams now because Peyton Manning went and played for someone else. **** off; you get one team and one team only, ever.

They seriously became psuedo-Bronco fans because their team told Peyton to GTFO, but still also root for the Colts?
