I feel optimistic that there isn't going to be another full wave of wrestler deaths like this when the current crop of WWE wrestlers hits middle age+. The reduced head trauma and the actual downtime afforded to injuries, keeping the wrestlers from just swallowing opioids and charging ahead, should hopefully make for a less tragic post-wrestling career.

In the meantime, fingers crossed that 20 years from now we'll be able to sit and marvel at Mick Foley somehow still being alive.

Foley is the one who I am constantly holding my breath for. He seems to be high on the list of those who can literally drop dead at any moment.

I'm pretty surprised Naich is still kicking. He hasnt looked good for about 15 years now.

I think as long as they continue to live the DDP life they should be good. Any relapse might be an immediate death sentence though.

In less morbid news, wtf is with Stephanie McMahon selling have her stock at the valley of their stock price? I cant imagine she is that hard up for cash.

RIP Tracy Smothers. Another gone too young; he was 58. He disclosed a lymphoma diagnosis last year.

Much of his work was before my time, and I only ever encountered him under the Freddie Joe Floyd jobber gimmick in WWF in the mid-90s, but it's my understanding that he had a good body of work in the NWA. As one-half of the Southern Boys, he helped put on a match in 1990 with the Midnight Express that earned a ****3/4 rating from Meltzer. I put it at ****1/4 on my viewing back in 2015.

I'd always wanted to check out his SMW stuff but was never able to get SMW tapes. Then he came to ECW in 1997 as part of the FBI (Full Blooded Italians) and was great as a comedy character that could take an ass kicking.

AJ, Xavier, and Zelina had a meeting with Vince a few weeks ago about reversing the Twitch channel policy - he refused. She kept streaming on there anyway (and also made an OnlyFans for her cosplay stuff).

His wife called it "a hard-fought battle" and lauded how great people at AEW have been, which makes me think maybe the issue has been known for at least a little bit? Still a massive shock and a terrible tragedy for someone to be taken that young.

The guy was last in the ring without limitation just 2 months ago. What I meant above is that this should seem impossible for someone with a deadly lung condition.

I guess wrestlers dying young shouldn't shake us anymore after a lifetime of witnessing these deaths, but almost all of them have stemmed from poor lifestyle choices. This one probably hits so hard because it could seemingly happen to any of us.

If they knew of an ongoing life-threatening health issue then I suspect they would have thrown financial support behind helping him. Not necessarily for the most altruistic reasons, but still.
