Best pop was probably Braun Strowman - it was right before intermission, and he interrupted Elias' song (where he was of course trashing Saskatoon). It was a quick match, Strowman got the pin after a powerslam, and added a few more slams after the bell.
The crowd was also really behind Slater and Rhyno - lots of 'Heath's got kids' or 'ECW' chants depending on who was in the ring. Mickie James also got a surprising pop.
Biggest heat was Elias (during his song), and the finish to the main event (Cesaro's chair usage).
Anyone else find it super off the charts tilting to have the end of the Royal Rumble be agreements to WM title matches? The problem, obviously, is for the challenger, nothing. For the current champ, unless they don't have to defend until April, they can't know they'll be the champion.

It's a problem in general with the stipulation. It makes it very tricky to keep any momentum going for the man, and now woman, who wins the Rumble. They're getting a title shot at WM. So nothing that happens between now and then makes much difference to them. They're just waiting two months for a match to happen.
Also, as is the case on Smackdown currently, if it is super obvious who the opponent will be, it renders everything else meaningless. We're getting AJ/Shinsuke, so all this nonsense with KO and Sami is just killing time.

If they did things right, they'd slow-burn the feud from Rumble to WM with 0 1-on-1 matches between champ and challenger, just constantly getting in each other's way. That or have a transitional champion at Rumble that loses the belt at EC/Fast Lane
WWE sent out an e-mail announcing all PPVs after WM will be joint productions between SD! and RAW. Also, all B-PPVs will now be 4 hours long because of this change.

Is that what that e-mail said? Not in love with the four hour shows (plus pre-show), but a PPV every two weeks was also overkill. Probably does suck for the mid-card talent now less likely to make it to PPV.
I think they should just go full blown chaos. Three hours. Two rings. Raw matches in one ring next to Smackdown matches in the other occurring simultaneously.
Given the Network model, I really don't get Vince's obsession with long PPVs. Three-hour Raws, while I do hate them, I understand. USA is willing to pay good money for that third hour, so...it's obnoxious, but it's not at all difficult to wrap my mind around.
But surely super-long PPVs aren't boosting Network subscriptions, right? What's the incentive? And obviously there has to be a correlation between more wrestling and more injuries, so if anything I would think they would want to move toward airing less wrestling on the network that charges the same flat rate to everyone regardless of the length of the shows.
Well that explains reducing the number of shows, but not necessarily the need to go to four-hour shows even for minor PPVs. I assume that means that no WM will come in under six hours, even discounting the pre-shows.
If they're doing three hour shows with four championships (women's and men's) on most shows they wouldn't even be able to fit two tag titles, US, IC and Cruiser all on most shows. That would totally crush the mid-card.
I'm dubious that they would feel the need to put every title up on every show, given that most of the titles are not at all respected anymore. There should be a presumption of every title being up at Mania, but they don't really even come close to that most years I don't think.
Would think it's more about saving money. One less building they need to rent and travel to per month?
Da Meltz speculating:

Adding more pay-per-view events has added costs without a lot of new revenue, with the exception of the live gates, since they really aren't increasing WWE Network subscription numbers at a high rate. There also may have been issues with storylines slowing down due to longer gaps in between brand-exclusive events.
I think I'd be in the minority to say a 5 hour ppv once a month is better than 2 3 + hour ppvs a month. I'd barely get done with one and already I feel like I had to get ready for another one to watch.
Vince is stupid and out of touch in every way. The whole company's management is dumb.
Just a few months ago Vince was in this confrontation which led to a great Hell in a Cell Match:
To call Vince stupid, is ignorant and childish.
Maybe you're dumb? Oh I didn't back that statement up with any facts? Well, welcome to your statement.
If you take WWE so seriously that you simply call people dumb/stupid without any input as to how it could be improved, it's a YOU problem, and in that case you should know your role and shut your mouth, jabroni.
