WWE always wants to have a Hispanic star because having a Hispanic star does draw a lot of money from the Hispanic population. They apparently concluded from Botch Cara and Kalisto that it is hard to build one even close to the level of Del Rio. When perhaps they should have concluded that nobody will get over just from a bad "Lucha" chant and working as a jobber to the stars in the devalued tag division.

Did WWE/WWF have a Hispanic star in the 90s? They had Pedro Morales in the 70s, Tito (Chico) Santana in the 80s, Eddie and Chavo in the 00s and ADR in the teens.

Savio Vega didn't seem like a real star, but I'm probably forgetting someone.

Well, they actually have a hispanic star. They just don't really acknowledge him. Would have saved them a lot of money if they did by the sound of it though.

Hint:
Spoiler:
It's their World Champion

Not exactly, but there are legitimate reasons to be confused about that.

However,. there is potential out there if they would only be creative:

Lopez......close enough.

Rollins is Armenian, not Hispanic. Lopez is the name he took from a step parent.

As I understand it, he's never met his biological father and took the surname of his stepfather.

Vince is weird. I remember that when the FBI came to WWEland, the rumor was that he thought that only wrestlers of legitimate Italian descent should be part of the stable.

But, then again, Razor Ramon, who is your WWE "Hispanic" star of the 90s.

Bayley's usage on the main roster is going to be interesting. Either they are going to take the obvious route of using her like they did in NXT, or they are going to take the tunnel vision route of trying to make her fit into the "full sweater, empty head" mass of catty women who don't get along like they do with just about every female wrestler.

She can be the female Sting and get turned on repeatedly by Charlotte. Who can be her Lex?

Wouldn't Charlotte be Lex in that scenario?

Interested in this too. Based on NXT, she has massive face potential and is someone who just naturally gets the crowd behind her, and it's the type of thing that could play even better with a wider younger audience. There aren't many people in WWE with the smarks/kids crossover which is a big deal.

I don't think her gimmick is going to fly on a bigger stage.

I kind of agree. It's suited to be a comedy gimmick on the main roster but everybody loves everything at NXT.

I don't see it as a comedy gimmick, really. She can just be a positive, bubbly, sometimes naive person. It's classic babyface stuff imo. I think it will do well if they don't **** up.

Didn't some people say this about Emma?

The NXT demographic skews very heavily to 18-49; the main roster has a lot more viewers that are very young or very old. If anything I think Bayley's gimmick would appeal more to those demographics. But there is a good chance the main roster writers turn it into a comedy gimmick if they keep it. Or somehow just royally screw it up as they have with the Divas Revolution.

Yep. I think it's a major problem that the NXT crowd loves everything and behaves exactly how the WWE want them to. Bo's gimmick was awesome in NXT because the crowd reacted exactly how they wanted them to do. When he got to the main roster and they didn't react the same way, they basically had no idea what to do with him.

The Ascension is another example.

Bo had to be turned heel because the crowd reacted exactly the opposite to what WWE wanted.

The Ascension's gimmick was immediately changed upon getting called up to the main roster.

The main deal is that the WWE must know that in NXT and RAW/Smackdown, they are booking shows for two different demograhpics. They have enough expertise and experience backstage that they should be able to figure out how to tweak gimmicks and character presentations when moving between the two shows.

Bo was a heel in NXT and the crowd treated him like one. It was fun to trash him because of the way he reacted. When he got to the main roster fans didn't have fun with needles, just boos. I have no idea what you mean by that first sentence.

The only thing they changed about the Ascension was making them do those promos talking **** about older teams. Everything else was exactly like it was in NXT.

That's why it's bizarre that they don't have a backup plan sort of thing when these gimmicks move from one show to another and don't get a reaction. I'm also interested to see what kind of reaction the ex-TNA guys get if they make it to the main roster. NXT is filmed in the same area as TNA was so it's safe to say they have a lot of crossover live fans.

I'm sure somebody in creative has a backup plan in mind for most any given wrestler. But Vince, the wrestler themselves, the rest of the creative team, Corporate Joe Blow, etc. may not agree with that plan. A lot of guys, like Tyler Breeze and Adam Rose, are already on plan B (actually at least Plan C for both of them) by the time they even make it up to the main roster.

Now that I think about it, the success of most gimmicks is highly dependent on how hot the product is generally. In the 80s when WWF was on fire, nearly every gimmick seemed to work. Then none of the gimmicks worked in the mid-90s, then in the late 90s the crowd loved everything again. A few guys have the charisma and skill level to get over in spite of most everything, but most don't.
