I just assume at this point the writers believe winning the IC built makes you so over by default that they can just use the champ to get others over without hurting the champ's credibility

That or it really is the Jobber Championship

The NXT story is so dumb.

Of course Vince should be pissed that his premium brand isn't doing as well as the minor leagues. Nor is it news that Vince is unimpressed with guys the size of the NXT roster.

Then somebody a bunch of dudes who just mine cynicism for clicks turn that into "Vince is mad that NXT is good" while ignoring that the Main Event scene is full of (admittedly more WWE-ish) NXT guys.

There's so many easy reasons to hate on the WWE I don't get why people regurgitate these rumors that don't hold up to a hint of reason. Like the whole "Mighty Mouse" thing, which Occam's Razor suggests is somebody taking a metaphor way too literally.

My slight guess is that they're trying too hard to make sure Barrett's a heel after he got super facey before and right after his injury. My guess is the "clean loss" is one of those trixy rollups and then he beats the guy down after to get heat.

It might make sense if it was like anybody but Sin Cara.

Yeah if it was someone that was going to feud with him for the title then I can overlook it even though I don't like it but it was Sin Cara. Sin Cara.

Like I said earlier, the original rumor about mighty mouse which was posted ~1-2 weeks before the others was exactly this (source: http://www.reddit.com/r/SquaredCircl...t=confidence):

Quote:
Last week someone (supposedly an ex employee of the WWE) posted a story, then deleted it soon afterwards... It was something like:
Quote:
Vince came up to HHH and tells him he wants to bring in Adrian Neville as Mighty Mouse. HHH, just tries to placate Vince and water down his craziness and says, yeah, we can bring him in as a smaller underdog type character like Mighty Mouse and that he will get creative to work on some designs.

Then the next week in a meeting, HHH shows Vince the costume designs complete with a mask and cape, and Vince just looked at them and says "Where are his ears?". HHH says What ears? Vince says "His mouse ears. No one is going to believe this guy is Mighty Mouse without mouse ears!" Then he sighs really loud and mutters that Mighty Mouse is probably too expensive to get the copyright on anyway...
So it isn't the case of someone taking a metaphor to far, it's the case of someone posting a story where Vince reportedly wanted Neville to literally dress like Mighty Mouse. Newer versions don't mention the mask anymore, which would indicate HHH (and others) were able to convince Vince that the mask and costume was a horrible idea.

As for the NXT story, my interpretation is it's not that Vince is pissed that NXT is better, he is pissed that people THINK NXT is better. Hence the line about NXT stars being overrated. In his mind, RAW/Smackdown/gimmickPPV is miles better than any o the NXT programming, and he doesn't understand nor like the fact that fans seem to think otherwise.

Anyways, it's NVG thread... so believe what you want. It makes the product more enjoyable for me to read the stories and imagine the implications (often hilarious) of them being true.

I believe the real rumor was that Vince got so upset that he vowed to buy NXT and destroy it just like he's done in the past with other promotions that were deemed superior to his show.

Mighty Mouse vs the Big Show would be pretty cool match for WM you can't deny that. The Blue Blazer (before he died RIP) was a fun superhero character.

McMahon is still a genius but he has serious booking issues nowadays. Nobody trades clean wins anymore. It's a serious problem that must be fixed.

e.g. Why can't Reigns lose a RAW match to Big Show KO punch? It would make his eventual conquering of the Show more exciting for fans and make him more rootable.

McMahon is not still a genius, and really never was. He's always a questionable booker and judge of talent. He was a great promoter though.

It is a miserable condition as I have it and got hospitalized for it when I was within a day from dying. Like Brock, I had delayed medical treatment but whereas his was due to him being in a remote location, I was stupid and didn't seek treatment although I would say in my defense I didn't know what had happened. I ended up losing a foot of small intestine.

I think the problem is one I read about in a book, but as I have read a lot of wrestling books I don't remember which one. The problem is that the people in charge of wrestling companies hold on too long to what worked in the past. Especially if they have been in charge for a long time and so gotten older and older.

Ironically, I think this was a complaint that Vince Jr. once made of his father.

I think it's part holding onto the past too long and part not always appreciating what actually worked about the past. (and part everybody only remembering the good parts of the past and forgetting that there's always been a lot of crap).

Vince used to willing to change to some extent. People often say on podcasts that they would bring an idea to Vince, only to have Vince turn them down. A few days later, Vince would come back and say "I've got an idea" and then proceed to describe the very idea he turned down, or the same idea with a slight wrinkle. It actually is probably good for business to do this rather than stubbornly ignore the ideas of others. But these are stories from awhile ago, and his ability to adapt may itself have changed.

Watched Piper hit Snuka in the head with a coconut on the network for the first time in years last night (Under Quick Hits). I remember it being one of the very early "Wow" things I saw on TV in my early fandom days and remember it as such. Watching it last night I had a very different "Wow" feeling. As an adult now, it seems incredibly racist. I mean, I wonder how much trouble WWE would get in for allowing something like that on their TV today. Probably a moot point because it would never get ok'd. I mean he's throwing bananas at him and telling him to climb a tree. Holy crap. Not to mention legit cracking a coconut over his head. I mean holy crap in such a different way then it was holy crap when I was a kid.

Somebody called Tamina Snuka a pineapple head or something along those lines a couple years back. Basically the PG version of that racism.

Just rewatched Michaels turning on Jannety on the network tonight for the first time in years. New observations over 20 years later as an adult:

- Jesus Christ what was up with Beefcake??? Looked like a homeless transvestite on meth.
- Heenan and Monsoon were so great...."Jannety just tried to escape by diving through the window!"
- Still stands up as one of the best turns ever even though we all knew it was coming.

I still like that they somehow have a camera shooting from behind the window, I guess in case someone gets thrown through it.

I guess that's like things conveniently being under the ring that nobody would ever expect to normally be there.

This always took first prize for me for awful, awful mid 1980s WWF racism:
