No. Yo're supposed to be entertained by watching them pretend to fight each other. I'm generally more entertained by good looking women in pretty much every possible context, so the first criteria for a woman's WWE success is going to be looks. Then, being even minimally competent in fake fighting.

A woman being good at her craft adds to her attractiveness IMO. In any case, I'd easily sooner watch, say, prime Aja Kong than Kelly Kelly.

I'm still bummed about Kharma. I was excited and that was at the low point of the division.

Even Charlotte kinda exposes the business a bit (? can't think of a better term). She's so very clearly at least five tiers higher than any woman on the main roster. It's embarrassing to see the other women when Charlotte shows how it's done with natural talent and hard work.

I don't really get the obsession with raw athleticism. To me it's more about telling a story in the ring + being a character people get invested in, and neither of those really requires being a freak athlete. The cruiserweight division right now is almost all incredible athletes who can flip and do everything in the ring, but nobody really cares about their matches. Enzo Amore, who sucks at wrestling, is probably the most over person on 205 Live.

That said, I am glad to see WWE getting away from the "let's just teach models to wrestle" thing, and you see that in the Mae Young Classic and NXT especially. It might take a little longer for it to really happen on the main roster since Vince doesn't seem to give them the time/opportunity to really go in the ring.

Agreed but only to a certain extent- Charlotte is so much more talented in ring than everybody else on the roster that even if she had 0 character/mic skills it would still affect their in ring work.

I do think that this is increasingly true at a time when there is a diminishing number of new things a worker can do in the ring. There's little they can do that we haven't seen while also being relatively safe.

That said, a worker does at least have to have minimum competency where their moves don't look totally unbelievable.

Women's wrestling:

Totally agree and that is why I said "uncoordinated messes". They are. They can't do passable pro wrestling matches. Often there are as many botches in a women's match on RAW or a ppv as there are during all the men's matches combined. It's obvious that they get a pass for this from Vince & Co because they're attractive. I have no problem with most of the women's division focusing on characters or story lines but it has to end in a decent physical confrontation.

Yeah we seem to be in agreement here. As much as I like Alexa as a character, she just isn't there yet in the ring and there's a few similar cases on the roster who just don't put very good matches together. I was just arguing in favor of wrestlers like Becky and Bayley, who aren't necessarily amazing athletes but I think are very good at in-ring storytelling and keep botching to a minimum.

We may hate it, but it makes perfect sense why the McMahons keep booking themselves in prominent matches at WM. They are the only people whose loyalty they can trust 100%.

I don't have much of an opinion about Becky Lynch, but lolBayley. "Keeping botching at a minimum"? Not only is she completely unbelievable in the ring but she can barely put a sentence together.

Charlotte vs Rousey at WM would be awesome. Especially if they brought back heel Charlotte and Rousey was just some borklike super-tweener. Rousey vs Steph would be awful.

I'm not going to get into the debate about Women's wrestling. I will simply say that if you stopped watching the MYC during or after the 1st round, start watching again. The latest batch of 4 shows really stepped up the quality of matches. I think the problem was that there just wasn't 32 viable women out there to be in a stage like this. I also think there were some rather curious booking decisions in the first round that hurt things. Anyway give the rest of the tournament a shot

There was a rumor a week or two ago that Jinder's going to be holding the belt until WM. Today, WWE announced a tour of India for December. My god, it's going to happen. Is it that hard to put the belt back on AJ and make him the focal point of the show?

smackdown is unwatchable which is a shame with aj/ko/sami on it. Jinder is the WWE champ, every promo is the exact same, every match is the exact same, and it's blatantly obvious it's a marketing ploy for India rather than anything interesting storyline/character/inring wise. Then you got Natalya/Naomi being the womens champs just keeping that irrelevant. Usos and New Day have been feuding for what feels like a year even though it's been like two ppvs. AJ and KO just was mediocre because it was a clear tread water feud with non finishes and goofy title changes on errors just to give them something to do til summerslam.

Smackdown after the split was the best wrestling had been on american tv since Punk's summer. And it's trash now. Shame.

Miz should go back to SD and fued with Daniel Bryan some more. Book the match at Wrestlemania. Have Maryse kiss Miz for luck, and then Daniel Bryan uses a small package to win in under 18 seconds. Everybody goes home happy and safe.
