If we're talking about pro wrestling vs. UFC/Bellator/whatever, and you want to know which is a real sport, that is easily answered by asking one simple question, and it works for
any sport: What does the referee/timekeeper/judge/whatever do during a match?
I compared the two recently. During the pro fight the referee was standing in a corner, away from the action. (I would be too if someone was brandishing a chair.) Later that same night, in a very similar MMA fight position, the referee was laying on his stomach to get a good view of the ground-fighting.
I've participated in several sports. I played basketball, and what few points I scored didn't count until the official called it a basket (no 3- pointers back then.)
I ran a marathon. It didn't count until an official (or a camera) recorded my time as 5 hours, 8 minutes and 53 seconds.
Even the National Spelling Bee has officials.
