Unpopular Opinion: I found Daniel Bryan's book rather dull. Great wrestler, always rooted for him, but he really seemed to wrestle recklessly and not take care of himself.

I'm still reading Bryan's book. He's not a very good writer and his stories are sometimes bland (he doesn't dish a lot of juicy details). Since I never followed ROH, that portion was harder to get in to. I just got to his WWE years, and it's picking up. Interesting to get a glimpse of what goes on behind the scenes and though he doesn't "shoot" on anyone in the book, I still find it interesting. Though by no means is it a "must read."

Reading the book now, knowing that he retired because of brain injuries, makes it hard to read the parts where he talks about learning about concussions, then still doing head first spots anyway.

Good to see these reviews I suppose, I'd been considering buying that book. Will probably take a pass.

Speaking of pro wrestling's beginnings, has anyone here read Tim Hornbaker's books on early 20th century wrestling? He has two that seem like they would be interesting:

National Wrestling Alliance: The Untold Story of the Monopoly that Strangled Pro Wrestling

Capitol Revolution (about the pre Vince Jr years of WWF).

EDIT: Missed a book of his: Legends of Pro Wrestling: 150 Years of Headlocks, Body Slams, and Piledrivers. This seems to just be a collection of bios, so I'm not as interested in this one.

I quite enjoyed the DB book myself, but wish he wrote it outside of WWE, a la, Bret.

Just finished "The Resurrection of Jake the Snake" and really enjoyed it. I got the DVD as a perk for donating to either Jake or Scott Hall's Indiegogo a couple years ago. I made a trip to the Accountability Crib about 2 weeks after Hall arrived, so it was really neat to see everything come to fruition. Just saw that it will be on Netflix on June 1.

Still can't decide if I like the Lapsed Fan guys. I'm about five hours through the 93 Starcade one. I'll preface this by saying that I certainly have snickered at a few of their jokes, but sooooooo much of it is bad jokes where it seems they laugh way too hard for way too long. It really could just be that my sense of humor doesn't match theirs, though. I'll keep trucking along through another episode or two, most likely.

I was like that when I started listening to them. I hated it and stopped listening a few times but I got over it. The information they give is awesome, plus they're pretty funny (if you can get over that laughing ****). They really dig deep to get all the stories that are out there.

Also listening to 1994 Starrcade while grinding PLO on Bovada . The 84, 99, 00 Starrcade's are the best ones. If you like their imitations, check out their youtube channel where they have parodies done using all the characters they've created on the show.

TLF is definitely a show where I love it but totally, totally get why someone else would hate it.

I don't believe I've heard as many as iso has, partially because I've been abstaining from some until after I get through the PPVs for myself in my MNW project, but WW3 1995 still comes to mind as my favorite.

I've come around as well on TLF. I can understand if someone doesn't enjoy their brand of humor. The spots where they try to outdo each other with bad puns are bad, but by and large they are generally funny. I have listened to the first 25 WMs and about half of the Starrcades. Also a few random shows here and there, but I think they do a really good job almost every show

If you haven't heard it AJD, you specifically would especially love the WW3 1995 episode. The praise I'm heaping on it is all about their treatment of Hulk Hogan during that ep.

Yeah, I'll definitely keep giving it a go.

As far as impressions, His Psycho Sid one is perfect. It makes me laugh every time. When he said Sid must be the only one in wrestling history to use the word "bogus" then go on with it for a while.

He also made a joke about Awesome Kong and King Kong and the size of their manhood that totally caught me off guard and it had me choking on my water on the treadmill at the gym (my first visit to the gym this year, haha).

For me, I think I just want to get through the shtick sometimes and get into the crux of it. They're like 6-8 hours long - which is impressive that they do that for so many shows - but because my time is more valuable nowadays it feels like a chore to get through it. But the thing is, you have to get through the humor bits to get to the awesome facts they provide, which is probably worth it for the most part, because as I've said, some of it is funny.

I've listened to nearly all of them at least twice, possibly even three times. I listen to it while grinding poker and while grinding video games that don't require sound.

I don't have a favorite episode but I like the ones with impressions the best, so after WM 1 or so. My favorite joke is on the BatB 96 episode when reading from Bischoff's book about joining Nash and Hall:

Bischoff: Hogan, this means you're going to have to turn heel
Lapsed Hogan: Why? (actual line is supposed to be "I'm already there")

Must be heard to be appreciated.

Is that Jake Roberts documentary worth a watch or is it just a DDP Yoga infomercial?

I am not quite done with this episode yet, but it is easily my favorite so far. The bit about Hogan and Savage showing up at each other's door with a ref had me in tears. This is so good I think I may watch the actual show

I'll have to check out the Jake doc since it's something my wife will actually watch involving wrestling since she loved Beyond the Mat and Jake.

That's the only episode I re-listened to, and this conversation is making me want to pull it back up again.

I see that they're doing an episode this week on the Over the Edge PPV when Owen died. That's morbid, but I'll be listening.

Yeah I saw that too, and I'm curious as to how they handle it. I know they haven't been shy in the past with making the jokes, so I hope they don't go overboard

They have a serious switch that they flip on. Somehow I trust them I do it well despite that fake "Bret Hart in the sharpshooter again" scenario that they imagined up and JP thinks is so funny.

So I finished that LaPsed Fan WW3 episode and I can say it finished as strong as it started. I do however think that I watched that main event before. Maybe when we were discussing Hogan in another thread and you or someone pointed to that match. Anyway, I now feel compelled to watch the actual show. And as always, **** you, Hulk Hogan
