Wrestlemania Week 2018 Wrestlemania Week 2018

I'm gonna try to do as much rewatching (or first watches on some) as I can this week.

Suggestions welcome on anyone's personal favorites or anything like that.

My plan is to just plop around and watch whatever random stuff I click on. Might sneak some Takeovers on as well, but we'll see.

Bottoms up.

I applaud the creation of this thread. I was thinking of reviving my list thread to do some WM stuff but didn't wanna bring up 2 or 3 year old thread.

I think first on the list should be Brock vs. Roman from 31.

My thoughts on it in spoilers because of spoilers if you don't remember specifics. I just watched Brock/Roman yesterday.
Spoiler:
I was kind of underwhelmed by it. It had been > a year since I last saw it but now I just see a bunch of domination and the thing that irked me on first viewing...Roman smiling to Brock's offense. The ending is, of course, awesome and I'd argue in the top three best finishes to a Mania ever with 20 and 30.

I had also forgotten that this is where Brock coined the phrase, "suplex city, *****", so I marked a kid when I heard that.

Stars for fun: ****1/4. Originally had this as ****1/2

Personal favorite recommendation:
Bryan vs. HHH - 30
Shinsuke vs. Sami - Takeover: Dallas
Mick vs. Edge - 22
AJ vs. Shinsuke - WK 10 if you're feeling adventurous and want a preview of that match

Just got home from work. Poured a drink and fired up the Brock v Roman from WM 2015.

I used the Wrestlemania Theater option or whatever that collection is.

I saw this live, but have no memory of it at all. Here we go go go

Brock v Roman:

Eh, not exactly for me. It was fun how Brock beat the hsit out of Roman, but the gimmick ending was whatever.

Still, though, entertaining. Thumbs up.

Fired up Cena vs The Rock from WM 27(?).

I've never seen this before.

Comments from the initial introductions: WWE is in love with showing people's cell phones filming the show. Which is surreal when you think about it-- they are making a show of using their state of the art cameras to make us watch it through some dipstick's iPhone.

Also, it sucks that the network tells you the run time on these matches.

Probably 28. 27 was Miz/Cena. I forget which Cena/Rock match was received better. I hated both.

It will never not be funny that Cena wrestles in sneakers and jean shorts (with a belt!).

Yeah, the Roman Reigns Numerals appear to say it's 28.

It's weird how much bigger the Rock is now compared to his physique then. Guy was jacked here, but he's got a whole different shape these days.

Okay, gotta abort. The 40 minute run time scared me off. I'm tapping out at 18 minutes.

Rock vs Cena-- maybe it was cool at the time, but I'll never know.

Macho w/ Sherry vs The Ultimate Warrior from WM7(?). Career ending match.

Monsoon and Heenan on the mics, Liz hiding in the stands "with the Humanoids!" per The Brain.

Now THIS is a match I can get behind. And I found it with the search function, so it autoloads to the start on the WM show without leaking the run time of the individual match.

Hogan's scraps from the WM5 main event and the WM6 main event meet for the title of Scrap Champion.

I never liked savage in the body suit though. He's a trunks guy.

Also, Warrior did not run to the ring. Weird.

Update: Macho took the shirt off. Going for the Shiny Pants look.

I've said it before on this forum. Bobby calling that is the greatest thing ever. "Is that the Ultimate Warrior? Why isn't that buffoon running? Why isn't he running at 150 miles per hour like that insane lunatic usually does?."

Such a depressing match knowing all of them are dead, and now all the commentators are too.

Good call.

Savage dropped 5 (!) consecutive top rope elbows on the Warrior and homophobe kicked out.

such malarkey.

Fun match. Thumbs up. Heenan and Gorilla make everything better.

Plus some great after-the-match shenanigans.

Multiple people in the crowd with tears from the Elizabeth / Macho reunited moment.

Everyone on this show except Regis Philbin and the Undertaker (which is ironic) are dead.

ETA- wait. Alex Trebec is interviewing Mr Fuji and Demolition (Smash and Crush version) now.

More alive people.

Both renditions of Rock vs. Cena were quite boring IMO, though I only ever watched them live.

Some favorites of the bigger matches not yet mentioned

Hogan vs. Savage WM V
Hogan vs. Warrior WM VI
Piper vs. Hart WM VIII
HBK vs. Razor WM X
Hogan vs. Rock WM X-8
HBK vs. Angle WM XXI

Some slightly less-famous favorites

Piper vs. Adonis WM III
Rockers vs. Twin Towers WM V
Warrior vs. Rude WM V

We had a VHS of WM5 when I was a kid, so that's the WM that I've seen the most. Probably a dozen times.

Great show at times.

Firing up WM21 Shawn Michaels vs Kurt Angle now.

I don't believe I've ever seen this, so here we go go go.

I forgot how dumb HBK's outfits got. Plus that music. It did not age well, imo.

Angle introduced as "the only Olympic gold medal winner in WWE history, and a former WWE champion," sounded weird.

His music didn't age well even within his own career. The Sherri version was decent, then dropping her and having him sing about himself was a nice touch right at first I guess, but it was a cocky midcard heel theme that should not have possibly carried on for multiple decades.

The ref is wearing a royal blue polo shirt and black slacks. He also appears to be 19 years old.

He looks like he should be working the concession stand, or for the Best Buy Geek Squad.

What are the best matches of the past year that I should watch going into this Wrestlemania? I haven't really watch much at all since last year's Mania. Must be on WWE Network
