What are you getting at exactly? I forget to shut my fridge sometimes?

Re: Wrasslin Podcasts

His wife told him to do so. Apparently she was too concerned overall because he has a terrible memory. This was just one symptom. But he said something like: "my 90 year old grandma forgets stuff all the time. I dont understand what the big deal is." He really didnt get that he shouldnt necessarily compare his 44 year old brain and body to his grandma. Austin pointed it out a bit, but then let it slide.

Flair seems like a great guy to hang out with. But his podcast is just him shooting the **** with old friends of his. I'm surprised that, despite his reputation as one of the best in-ring performer of his generation, he doesn't talk about the nuts and bolts of wrestling, preferring instead to tell road trip stories with his old friends.

Don't get me wrong. It's a really interesting podcast. But Austin, for example, goes through the thought processes of matches in his podcast, while Flair just doesn't seem to take wrestling as seriously. (Flair could have never done Austin's Del Wilkes' podcast, for example.)

Also surprised that Flair thinks Jumbo Tsuruta "never learned to work" considering his outstanding reputation among All Japan fans. Although he might have meant that Jumbo worked too stiffly.

Re: Wrasslin Podcasts

Surprised to see Flair getting such overwhelmingly positive word of mouth for his podcast. He always came off badly to me in the older Legends of Wrestling round tables that WWE produced. Maybe those were just produced when he was having a tougher go of things though.

Re: Wrasslin Podcasts

Flair isn't like how he was on those round tables at all on these podcasts. Maybe that is why he doesn't talk much about the nuts and bolts of wrestling; he comes off better when he doesn't get too serious. You do get some insight into how Flair was able to be so good as a performer, but they talk about it in more of a nostalgic type of way as opposed to argumentative manner like the round tables.

Re: Wrasslin Podcasts

I just listened to my first Flair podcast and it was the one with David Crockett. I really enjoyed with the exception of what sounded like they were using a 90's speakerphone that was voice activated. But it wasnt distracting enough to take away from my enjoyment. I also gave me the feeling that Conrad was the actual host and Flair was more of a co host. Is that how they all are? Or was it just the one time because of the guest?

Conrad also was heavily involved in the Bret Hart episode, and I assumed that the show was structured that way intentionally, with Flair kind of serving as the "big name" co-host and Conrad driving the bus.

Re: Wrasslin Podcasts

Ive listened to a few other podcasts from Flair, and while it wasnt as Conrad heavy, I think you are right in that Flair will be more of the big name co host. At lest for now while they still have his friends coming on the show. And if that is all this show turns out to be, Im ok with that, but I dont think it will go into my long term rotation like JR's is.

Re: Wrasslin Podcasts

So I listened to a lot of Flair's latest podcast with Kevin Sullivan last night and a couple things jumped out at me. First you can tell right away the Flair is drunk for the taping of this show. And Conrad actually acknowledges this later on in the cast saying they had a few drinks before taping. Flair claimed in this cast that he has the #1 wrestling podcast going, but if he makes it a habit of drinking before hand, he wont be #1 all that long.

The big reveal in this show had to do with the Piper/Austin deal on Podcast One. if you dont know about it, apparently after WM Piper had Will Sasso on who did an Austin impression. Austin apparently didnt appreciate it and had it removed. Well some other stuff happened and Piper left Podcast One and said it was Austin who had him fired. Austin shot back on his Podcast and said that he did have the podcast taken off after speaking with the owner, but had nothing to do with his departure from PO. Well Flair also added that apparently Piper also had his WWE legends contract pulled too because of this and also hinted that it was Austin to facilitated that. I hope that isnt true, because that is such a ****ty move and makes Austin a real scumbag.

Re: Wrasslin Podcasts

That makes me really curious as to what was possibly said in the Austin impression. Seems like the only thing that would make Austin that vindictive is if the guy doing the impression brought up Austin's history with domestic abuse, and that Piper somehow joined in on taking shots.

Re: Wrasslin Podcasts

I never heard it, and apparently it was something about Debra, so I assume it was about the domestic abuse thing. Austin only said that his problem was that "some personal business was brought up" and he didnt want that out there. Hey if you dont want it out there, then lower your profile, or dont do it in the first place

Yeah, it certainly paints Austin in a bad light to apparently be guilty of domestic abuse in the first place and then to wreck people if they dare to bring it back into the public consciousness.

Re: Wrasslin Podcasts

Been following the Piper/Austin drama and agree that Austin is a scumbag. I listened to the bit with Will Sasso and it clearly was just them having fun. I didn't find anything offensive enough to get the podcast pulled let alone having him fired. I didn't hear the bit with Debra although I might have missed more because I cut the podcast an hour short since he was out of character by then.

Care to elaborate?

My problem with the whole thing is that as a man, you should handle your business like a man. He should have first went to Piper and asked him to either take it down or edit out the parts that he felt shouldnt be in there. He obviously didnt do that because if he did, you know he would have said so. If that doesnt work then you take the route he did and get Podcast One to take it down.

Re: Wrasslin Podcasts

Piper didn't get fired. He moved the podcast because he felt he was being bullied/threatened. Piper didn't even say he was fired; he said they threatened to fire him.

Flair's podcast with Sullivan was awesome, drunk or not.

Re: Wrasslin Podcasts

I present a number of podcasts including Where the Big Boys Play (WCW reviews), Titans of Wrestling (pre-Hogan-era WWF when Bruno and Backlund were champs), and The All-Japan Excite series (focusing on 90s AJPW). I also help run the PWO-PTBN Podcast Network where you can find those two and a ton of great shows including Kris Zellner's new show Exile on Bad Street, which is strongly recommended if you want to sit under the learning tree for a few hours.

We are all uber-hardcore fans who go into history and depth that I think is pretty much unparalleled online -- some of those guys are people that Meltzer goes to when he needs info. If you want info on the old territories, Japanese stuff going back the the 70s, lucha, or anything beyond your typical WWE stuff, that's the feed to go to. It's if you want to go to the "next level" of fandom. We have a lot of followers and the shows pull good numbers. Everyone associated with these shows post on a board that is by far the best place to discuss wrestling in-depth online (BY FAR), but since I post here in the PoG I thought I'd at least pop in and mention it. Feed is here:

https://soundcloud.com/jerryvonkramer

or here on iTunes:

https://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/...rk/id715657490

You can find home pages with notes for most of the shows here:

Hope someone finds something they enjoy.

Re: Wrasslin Podcasts

I started to listen to Flair's podcast this week, he has JJ Dillon on. I got through 25 minutes before I got home, and Im going to give Flair the benefit of the doubt and say he has a cold and wasnt drunk again. Im only doing that because you can hear he has something like a throat lozenge in and its really annoying

He was eating.

The other guy, Conrad, posts about the show on the WON/F4W forum. He said Flair thought the mic wouldn't pick it up, and that their regular sound guy wasn't there this week.

New Day on Talk is Jericho this week. Vince called Xavier Woods "Zeke" for a long time when he started, and other good Vince content.
