you'd be correct i'm not sure if it was a cornette shoot interview or it was the joint one he did with paul bearer or heenan and it was discussed briefly and they claimed that oj pulled the plug not vince

Re: Wrasslin Podcasts

New TLF dropped today. SummerSlam 2002, one of the best PPVs of all time. Anyone and everyone who doesn't like Brock's current run should listen to this. They read from his book, "Death Clutch". He talks about his psychology at the time and it's very ahead of his time.

Re: Wrasslin Podcasts

Listening to TLF. Them reading from Brock's book and his straightforward talk about how the business has ALWAYS been about the money for him is incredibly interesting. Dude is 100% wired differently than any other pro wrestler I've ever heard about.

Thumbs up Re: Wrasslin Podcasts

This episode also includes the strangest thing ever: "Paul pulled me aside and and brought me two steaks from Vince's office. He always stole a couple of Vince's afternoon steaks and brought them to me." - Brock Lesnar. What the ****? So Vince always has steaks? He has them multiple times throughout the day? He keeps all of them in his office? Paul would always steal them for Brock? So weird. I do assume they're not all for him but I am still left with those questions. Amazing that "The Yeast Incarnate" was born here. I'll never look at him the same when they call him "The Beast Incarnate".

The quotes in Brock's quotes are hilarious. For example, "I was going to take on Hogan....others had jumped or attacked him to build interest in an upcoming match." Jack, "I want you to know that 'jumped' and 'attacked' are in quotes because it's fake". ****ing hilarious. As well as putting quotes around "defeated" when describing beating The Rock at SummerSlam.

None of that book changes my opinion on him. If anything, I like him a lot more. Honestly, he's just a more talented Roman Reigns. Reigns doesn't have any love for the business either and doesn't want to be there but he has no backup options this big. As JP mentions, Brock always went out and gave 110% and to me, that's all that matters. Brock's 2002-04 run is one of the best 2 year runs in wrestling history. He was amazing until the suplex gimmick.

Also, Kevin Nash as Moses is so ****ing funny and HBK is literally insane.

edit: also Brock saying, "it wasn't about who was better or who would really win. Come on now, that's ridiculous.". Brock insulting every single wrestling fan. Not too shabby.

So I know some/most people don't care for Vince Russo. He was on SCSA pod yesterday and did about 45 minutes. Anybody care to guess how many times he said "Bro"? I counted. Will reveal tomorrow around noon.

Re: Wrasslin Podcasts

Sorry I'm a little late. The actual count of "bro" in 45 minutes was 64. But if you told me 64.5 I would have hammered the over. Apparently there will be a part 2 next week. Will count again.

Talking Re: Wrasslin Podcasts

Posting because I'm so very happy atm. Just finished the latest episode of TLF (Part 2 of IYH Revenge of Take) and at the end they announced that next weeks show will be a 2000 WCW show, New Blood Rising. I love listening to the train wreck casts and in 3 year history of TLF and over 105 deep dives, they've not done any 99-2001 WCW shows with the exception of the Starrcade episodes. I have no idea what's on the ppv but I have high hopes for that cast

I counted the bros but it was only about 15 or so. Nothing like the first episode.

Insane 11+ hour release from TLF this morning on the Chris Benoit saga as well as deep diving the Memorial episode dedicated to him. I've listened to the first 3 hours of it and it's just amazing. Jack is so great with his fact checking and leaving no stone unturned, which ofc makes sense with his profession. I highly recommend listening to at least the first part (it's 3 parts w/1) general talk about it, 2) e-mails, 3) deep dive).

They also did Invasion 2001 a few weeks ago which was another brilliant episode. The last event they did (Halloween Havoc 98) was also great. At least check out 59:50-1:03:00 and 1:17:00-1:25:00ish of Part 1 for some lolz

I'm about 2 hours into part one, and it is equal amounts fascinating, scary, and tough to listen to. 11 hours is going to be rough to get through

I won't spoil the episode(s) for the people who are going to listen but by after listening to part 1 and 3, I just want to say that Vince, HHH, Steph come off as complete scumbags, esp Vince/HHH. It really sheds some light on corporate life in wrestling (perhaps corporate life in general for $1B companies) and what people will do and say to stay a huge corporation and viewed somewhat positively and attempt to curb any further damage to their brand. Sickening stuff in there.

This is great listening.

1. The Dave Taylor stuff is ****ing weird.
2. I had no idea about this thing where he apparently choked his kid out with the Crippler Crossface.

Re: Wrasslin Podcasts

Yeah, that Dave Taylor stuff is really ****ed up. It seems like it'd be easy to verify though it seems like the neighbors did verify enough.

Also, the phantom Sunday airline ticket + the text from a ref or agent to Chris about looking forward to seeing him. Just so weird.

edit: The Regal interview is also weird. JP asks if they had to air it since it wasn't live. Jack responds that maybe the WWE figured if he cared enough to say it that they figured they'd air it. They also said that the wrestlers volunteered to do a talking segment. So my question isn't "why did WWE air it", my question is why did Regal volunteer to do it?

Re: Wrasslin Podcasts

Also the stuff that led up to the murders was more extensive than I realized. I knew there was a domestic violence incident and a temporary restraining order along the way, but it does sound like a ton of warning signs once you know to look for them. Nancy actually sending a text shortly before the incident telling her friend that "if anything happens to her, make sure they know it was Chris" is chilling.

Re: Wrasslin Podcasts

edited my post above though it's at the end of part 3 so perhaps you haven't heard yet.

Yes, that part is awful. I'm just sitting here thinking "how can you stay in that house?". If she was granted a temporary restraining order against him, why would you get back together with someone like that?

Re: Wrasslin Podcasts

Yeah I'm through parts 1 and 2, haven't touched part 3 yet, though I'm guessing I'll listen to all of that by the end of tomorrow.

Unfortunately a battered wife agreeing to multiple reconciliations seems a lot more common than one who just makes a permanent clean break after the first serious incident.

I haven't listened to part 2 yet. 4 hours of e-mails seems like a lot. Was it enjoyable/informative/worth your time?

Re: Wrasslin Podcasts

The listener e-mails are never really my thing, but I did still think the Jack and JP conversation that stemmed from them made for a good listen. It's interesting to hear them talk through the whole thing, since it's sort of a therapy exercise to talk out a ****ty event from the past like this. I'd probably skip a long e-mail segment if it was just a normal PPV-based episode.

I wasn't giving it my full focus or anything, but yeah I'd still say it's worth giving it a shot.

Arrow Re: Wrasslin Podcasts

I wonder if him snapping had anything to do with a depression of not being able to perform up to the standard that he had been. That coupled with being essentially demoted to the ECW brand.

Also, I'd heard a year or two after this that had he not offed himself that he would've been dead within a year anyways from his extensive brain injuries but that is never mentioned on the broadcast so perhaps that wasn't true?

In a very selfish note, I would've loved to see Benoit vs. Punk.

Re: Wrasslin Podcasts

My guess on Regal is that, even if WWE's official stance was that wrestlers could go home, I agree with JP that there was probably an understanding with the veterans of the locker room that they should stay if at all possible.

Given that Regal's little tribute practically amounted to him squirming in his chair and functionally saying "no comment," I'm not at all inclined to believe that his appearance on that show was fully voluntary.
