WORST CHANTS, what's yours? WORST CHANTS, what's yours?

"Fight Forever" is a new one, and its grating me big time. It goes against what wrestling is supposed to be, one person trying to get the win, and the fans rooting for said person to get the win. It has now shifted into this uber nerdy "fight forever" nonsense.

I'd rather be entertained at a show, go out grab a beer and try and get lucky. Not watch a wrestling match for the rest of my life.

And this "fight forever" garbage, it's just in retaliation to mathed built by highspots.

Jim Cornette was right about everything, ever.

What?

"We are awesome!"

Honestly, I hate almost all the chants because even the standard ones like "This is awesome!" means they are there to see high spots and aren't wrapped up in the overall match. Or worse, they chant it before anything has even happened.

Just cheer or boo. Unless the company is putting on an atrocious show, and you want to let them know that the segment has go away heat, not good heat.

Has to be "this is wrestling". Tautological stupidity always wins. Did you think you were going to a home and garden show?

Was just about to write "this is wrestling". Man I can't stand that. "**** PG" at Full Sail was pathetic as well. Such a man child thing to say.

I also hate most chants though.

As a general rule of thumb, the only good chants are the simple ones where a wrestler's name is chanted, or maybe their finisher if it works well like "DDT." Fans chanting should really only be doing it to try to will their preferred wrestler to the win; it should be similar to what you would hear out of a crowd at a legit sporting event.

Of all the awful chants though, "What?" has to be the worst one to me. It seems to have finally started dying down quite a bit, but that **** was awful for a lot more years than most bad chants have been.

This was great the first time for Ricky Steamboat at WM XXV but extending this to things people like The Undertaker, Jericho, and The ****ing Road Dogg is just stupid.

My least favorite is "this is wrestling" from a PWG crowd simply because the last time I saw them do this was three minutes into a match that featured only a Japanese stranglehold being reversed 10 times.

Honestly, these sorts of chants is part of the reason why I've been soured on North American wrestling in general (in addition to subpar commentary, unless your name is Mauro Ranallo, he's good). You look at a show in Japan, and people are just outright cheering for the wrestlers (face or heel) they want to see win. Why can't American crowds be that way anymore? I rather hear the dueling "Let's Go Cena/CM Punk" chants as oppose to something like "This is Awesome" which won't be a problem since people were too invested in the guy they want to see win.

It's feelings like this where I always will say Japanese Crowds > modern-day American Crowds and it's not even close.

You hear these "This is Awesome" chants and it's more of sign of wanting more highspots rather than getting into the story of the match and wanting to see your favorite guy win. You heard those sort of chants and "Fight Forever" during Zayn/Nakamura, but I didn't care much about watching an awesome match (which it was) as much as wanting to see Shinsuke Nakamura shine on a WWE platform and win his first match. I don't know Sami Zayn that much other than he's good and that's he allegedly used to be "El Generico" so I had no emotional attachment for him going into their Takeover match, which makes these chants pointless for me to get into, since I'm just watching the match rooting for Nakamura to shine and win.

As much people have been clamoring that WWE is killing kayfabe and all where they are trying to make it where wins and loses don't matter anymore, I'm starting to think fans with these chants are contributing to the problem, that wins/loses don't matter, as well since they rather see high spots and a guy doing a big flip off a ladder onto 10 guys to the outside......

I've been wondering for some time why fan behavior has changed so much in the U.S. over the past 25 years. Part of it is that the companies actively tried to get fans to chant. The New Age Outlaws sing-a-long, the What chants, "Feed me More" etc. Once fans thought it was fun and acceptable they started chanting on their own.

I don't think that explains it all though. Part of it I think is that many U.S. wrestling fans are insecure and feel this need to prove they are smart and don't think it is real. As far as I know, wrestling isn't looked down upon as much in Japan and it has generally been accepted as a sport even though everyone knows it is scripted.

I think chants are great when there's a level of spontaneity to them. When it's just a recycled chant like "this is awesome" that gets used constantly and in the wrong situations, it's pretty grating for me.

Weird angle on this, but to me the thing that absolutely infuriates me and has in large part stopped me watching regularly are the attempts to silence the crowd by turning their sound down or playing the music super loud to cover up the crowd noise.

If the crowd is chanting what, let me hear what. **** it they paid to be there they can chant whatever they want.

Same. I think they also underestimate how many people got the network just to see how badly Roman got booed (hi!). Needless to say, I no longer have the network and haven't for a while now. I donated $9.99 to TLF last month instead of giving it to the network because they entertain me more.
