Dylan is on the clock for 8 hours. I will PM him.

As a courtesy, it is good to PM the next person up after you pick, though it's the responsibility of the participant to follow the thread, and if they get skipped after not being PM'd then that's on them.

Also no need to PM me, which I'm guessing others will say as well.

Yeah I won't need a PM when it's on me either.

Is it just me or does Dylan get 1st or early picks in a lot of these things? Anyway gl all, this should be fun to watch. Not sure if it's cool but I'm down to help people out if they get stuck.

Also even though I'm not involved, agree with LKJ that this would be a lot more fun if stuff like Owen and tragedies were left out.

This one is too tough for me. I'll follow along though. Should be entertaining.

Spoiler:
David Arquette wins the WCW World Title

Spoiler:

This draft will be filled with mind-boggling booking decisions. Many of them will be from WCW, and many of them will have been made by Vince Russo. None of them are as dumb as this. In one moment Vince Russo decides to destroy the history and prestige of the biggest title in his company. A title held by Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan, Harley Race, is now held by Officer Dewy. And for what? Well lets listen to the logic behind it from the man himself:

https://youtu.be/pKT-UgbYgs4

Even David himself didn't want to win the title:

https://youtu.be/7BSk6xYeR6Q

He did it to promote a failing movie, and to get mentioned in a newspaper. A week later all those "eyes" Russo turned on to WCW had already forgotten about it, and what's left? What's left is a group of wrestling fans so disgusted with the product, they changed the channel to WWF and never turned it back. Russo's booking was so short-sided.

One of the parts of this whole disaster that is often overlooked, is that they decided to make this "huge" move on Thunder.WCW had a history of giving away big matches and moments for free on TV, but at least they did it on Nitro where people were watching. They did this on Thunder. Well at least they got the title off Arquette in a logical way right?

This is one draft where I don't think there's a clear number one.

Was torn between Arquette and [REDACTED] at #1 overall.

Don't think I'll get that other choice at #4 either.

I have a clear number 1 personally but it's obviously all subjective, and my #1 is prob in a different direction to what most people are thinking.

Thinking about it, there is something else that I might have taken above Arquette too but it's obviously a fine #1 pick.

Katie Vick

Spoiler:
Really, what else is there to say? Sure, it was the attitude era, and Vince was desperate enough to let his performers do a lot of offensive and/or salacious stuff. But necrophilia? And it wasn't just the subject matter. It was also the terrible production value, and the cringe-inducing punch line. (Triple H, after portraying Kane having sex with a corpse in a casket, holds up her brains saying, "I screwed her brains out.")

It's infamous for a reason.

Anyway, I've got my selection decided, but am going to put in a bit of effort on this writeup. I'll try to have something up within 30 minutes.

See, even at the time I didn't think it was that bad. Arquette was neither the first nor last example of someone who won a belt he didn't deserve because of someone else's interference. He was never portrayed as a legitimate wrestler and he immediately dropped the title.

#3 Overall Pick

Spoiler:
In September 1997, a man named Bill Goldberg debuted in WCW with no advance hype or fanfare, and scored an unexpected victory over veteran Hugh Morrus. That was the beginning of a monster push where he squashed opponent after opponent, usually confining his mic work to "Who's next?" or "You're next!" The crowd ate it up. The push made it all the way to the moon, as in July 1998 Goldberg defeated Hollywood Hogan on Monday Nitro to become the WCW Champion.

Look at that crowd lose their ****.

Goldberg was money. Of course, there was a REALLY COOL GUY in WCW named Kevin Nash who was not about to cede that much of the spotlight to Goldberg. Nash flexed his booking muscle, and at Starrcade 1998 Nash was the one who finally broke Goldberg's undefeated streak at 173 matches, as his friend and stablemate Scott Hall ran interference and allowed Nash to win the WCW Title.

Spoiler:
In the meantime, there had been a split in the nWo, as really cool guys Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, Konnan, and others had broken off to become the Wolfpac(k). Hulk Hogan and the more widely-hated nWo members continued to wear black and white to the Wolfpack's black and red. Hall and Nash had broken up along the way, but had since reunited.

Spoiler:
On the January 4, 1999 edition of Nitro, the one that infamously began with Tony Schiavone rolling his eyes and saying, "That'll put butts in seats," Goldberg was to receive his rematch for the WCW Title. However, Miss Elizabeth accused him of "aggravated stalking," and Goldberg was arrested and brought to the police department for questioning during Nitro. Elizabeth's story fell apart, and Goldberg was released, but in kayfabe he was unable to make it back to the arena in time in order to still wrestle in his match...despite the fact that this very police station that he was taken to was just across the street from the arena.

Spoiler:
Nash offered the title shot to Hulk Hogan instead. Hulk didn't have wrestling attire for the evening, but accepted the challenge regardless. The two, who had split into a longtime rivalry, got set to go, squared off with each other, and...

...instead of actually fighting, Hogan lightly poked Nash in the chest with his finger, Nash comically flopped to the ground and then laid down as Hogan pinned him for the 1-2-3. The split factions of the nWo all pour into the ring to celebrate the utterly pointless rouse that they just pulled off, apparently reunited. The eventual payoff that lit the Goldberg undefeated run on fire was this nonsense, which also served to give a ridiculous end to the longtime rivalry between the nWo factions.

The David Arquette title win was more embarrassing than this, but it also happened after WCW's death rattle had long since begun. WCW was still ostensibly competitive at the point that this Fingerpoke of Doom happened. To me, nothing is more symbolic of the death of WCW than this moment. They did not win the ratings war on this night, and in fact never won another Monday night's ratings war ever again.
