Was thinking more about Okada and I figured out he's pretty much the Japanese Alberto Del Rio. He wins his first match in about 2 minutes. He wins the title in his 2nd match. Drops the belt 4 months later. Wins the G-1 Climax tournament (9 day tournament where the winner (and loser) will have wrestled 10 matches). Rematch for the belt 5 months later at NJPW's Wrestlemania show but comes up short. Wins another tournament (New Japan Cup) two months later. Wins the belt back a few weeks later. All that in only 14 months. The only difference between him and Del Rio is there is no question that Okada is the most over wrestler in the promotion.
Matches I've watched today:
Misawa/Akiyama vs Kawada/Taue: One of the GOAT matches.
Kobashi vs Akiyama - 12/23/00 - This match is smokin'. The ending sequence is spectacular. Kobashi goes for one of his higher up signature moves, Akiyama counters, but Kobashi counters that, which in turn sets Akiyama up for Kobashi's finisher. It is dramatic to say the least.
Kobashi vs Misawa - 6/11/99: This match is a war. Some nice spots and a spectacular finish. 5* from Meltzer and hard to argue but I'd say 1/20/97 is their best match which coincidentally didn't get 5* from Mr. Meltzer.
