idk if i'd like wrestling/wwe today if i were ~10 years old. theres just too much talking/promo's for my liking. it's a large part of the reason i stopped watching. (that and the wcw being bought out by vince. losing the competition sucks for fans) i'm probably lucky and/or spoiled in that i grew up with the greatest period for wrestling (da 90s) so that could sway my opinion. but my stopping had nothing to do with it being "fake" or staged.

Yeah, not liking wrestling because it's "fake" is even worse than not liking soccer because "ZOMG THEY HARDLY EVER SCORE!!!".

I usually just ignore both parties.

Soccer is so fake.

Seriously, there's a minor matchfixing scandal going on in the CSL right now.

Lol. Is the league run by Italians by any chance?

Also, minor match fixing seems like an oxymoron.

European Soccer would be a better sport if Euros were more ashamed by the act of flopping. It's no coincidence that the one sport in America that has been significantly infected by flopping (the NBA) is also the only popular American sport that Euros are good at.

In conclusion, I hope that Manu Ginobli dies.

All of the greatest athletes incorporate a bit of flopping into their game.

I have no idea. It's a league run in Ontario and Quebec and was apparently being fixed by German bookies. Seriously minor pro, like we're talking people who play in it having full-time, regular jobs as well as being a soccer player.

FWIW, I highly enjoy soccer.

Ah, ze Germans. You can blame them for the "flopping" too; in the 90s a dive was known as a "Klinsmann" after a German footballer who was notorious for it.

Oh I see, you mean minor leagues; I thought you were saying the match fixing was minor.

Btw does it bother anyone else that this thread title contains both "currently" and "atm"?

watching this vader v cactus jack match (from 93 i think?) on wcw saturday night. they werent supposed to bleed during these broadcasts, but as usual mick pushes the limits and has vader smash his face in. the crowd/setting was pretty bad, but the match itself was good. many of you have probably seen this if you've seen the mick foley wwe documentary (i havent, its not on netflix atm) but maybe pokerjoe561 should watch it lol

watched this a couple weeks ago and possibly even posted about it in here but he talks about this in his first book. he wanted vader to break his nose and it took many attempts but it worked. also confirmed 93

edit: i saw a much ****tier version lol

ya it was brutal. vader takes likes 5-6 shots at his eye in the corner, then you can see vaders as he steps back and has this "jesus im really nailing him, i feel bad" look on his face.

i like at the end of that vid mick talks about losing his ear for a sec and says he was pissed at wcw for not playing it up more. (smth mcmahon wouldve done for sure)

can you imagine jim ross? "oh my god. oh my god. mick foley lost his ear. jesus christ he lost his ear. oh my god."

Watched NJPWs 10/8 ippv. Spectacular event. Meltzer has called it the event of the year and it's hard to disagree. The only match I really didn't like was the IWGP jr. tag title match because it was overkill at the end but if you're into the E or TNA you'll probably enjoy this match to. The last 3 matches are especially worth seeking out:

Okada vs Anderson is just phenomenal. Anderson is great and Okada is quite possibly the best in the company atm.

Nakamura vs Goto for the IC belt is as expected, sick. The last 3 minutes are super hot but the entire match is def. worth a watch.

Tanahashi vs MiSu for the IWGP belt. Meltzer gave this 5* and i'm not going to disagree. This is "Strong Style" at it's best. It's one of the most unique match structures I've ever seen.

Just watched hype for Jake Roberts vs Rick Martel blindfold match at WM7. The match is universally **** on, but I think in terms of crowd involvement/telling a story/making money this match is the nuts even if it has very little in terms of moves/reversals/action.

I watched this a couple days ago. I thought the IC match was phenomenal, but the Tanahashi/MiSu match is overrated if given 5*. Very good but not great IMO.

Just re-watched Rock/Hogan from WM18. The crowd obviously deserves the majority of the credit for making that match so good, but man JR did an amazing job. His "He beat Andre the Giant with that move!" is one of the best calls of all time.

watching early 99 wwf stuff because i'm really curious how the "higher power" storyline came about. before St. Valentine's Day Massacre they advertised "there must be a winner" in the Rock/Mankind last man standing match at least 5 times in the RAW prior to the ppv...naturally it ended in a no contest .

Was changed last minute from a Rock win to a draw iirc. Initial plan was Austin/Rock at WM and Mankind to drop the title at the Feb PPV. Then they changed it to Austin/Rock/Mankind triple threat at WM and went with the draw. Then, the next day they changed their mind again back to Rock/Austin and had Mick drop the title on that Raw or the next one.

Not 100% that's entirely accurate but it's what is coming to mind

^^ Didn't HBK pulled for that triple threat match at that time, since he was such a douchebag and did not approve of the rock's push around early '99?

I'm pretty sure HBK was pushing against a triple threat match saying the main event of WM had always been 1 on 1, but was arguing that it should have been Mick + Austin and was outvoted there but listened to on the 1 on 1 aspect.

And then they abandoned the one-on-one for the main event stuff a year later anyway and had WrestleMania 2000, featuring nearly zero one-on-one matchups on the entire card (the only exception being a divas gimmick match between Terri Runnels and The Kat). The Attitude Era was rather fond of getting carried away with itself.

(Obviously this was only a year before the GOAT WrestleMania, so they were doing far more right than wrong.)
