That was on Raw for the IC title I believe. Think I was at that RAW taping. Would that have been around the time PG-13 were in the Nation?

No. It was several years before the Nation existed.

I believe that took place in Raw late 1993, after HBK vacated the IC title due to a drug-related suspension.

You weren't at the show in question. You're thinking of something 3.5 years later.

its funny how right before the battle they show this fake letter from president jack tunney to shawn michaels and it reads "we were forced to strip shawn of the title because he wasn't defending it on the schedule he was contracted too, and he was ducking people." (paraphrased)

there were a lot of big names in that battle.

after the battle royal, theres another link for the martel/ramon match, which was pretty good. rick martel was a real good performer/character imo.

eta: does anyone else not like the quebecers/the mountie getting so much play back then?

Rick Martel was just such a random guy to put Razor up against in that spot. I remember thinking even as a kid that they should have been able to put someone better up against Razor so that it wasn't so predictable that he was winning the title. Just within that match, IRS (coming off a recent good tag title run with DiBiase) and Bam Bam (less than a year removed from the KOTR finals) would have seemed like better choices.

But I did like Martel back in the day.

I never had any clue till much later that Martel was a former World Champ

Are you against all staged/scripted entertainment, or only that which involves athleticism?

I'm talking about wrestling in perticular. I'm just trying to figure out what it is that appeals to so many viewers that are smart enough to know that they are throwing fake punches and arent really hurting each other. I feel like its kinda bubble bursting to know that the winner of every match has absolutly nothing to do with the wrestler's skills or one being better than the other. What makes you a fan of WWE?

A similar set of things that make me a fan of other scripted entertainment that I enjoy.

People in action movies aren't truly shooting each other. Tobey Maguire isn't really scaling tall buildings by shooting spiderwebs out of his wrists, and when he fights off three four guys at a time, it doesn't ruin it to realize that there's no damn way that Maguire could actually do that if it wasn't scripted.

imo action movies aren't very good comparisons because they do a hell of a job w/ special effects to make it look as real as possible. I used to think WWF was slightly entertaining when i was very young because my step father would watch it all the time. But as soon as i was old enough to NOTICE that all the moves are staged, i quickly lost interest.

I think you may have a wrong idea of exactly how "fake" the whole thing is.

For instance, this guy really is flying off the top of a cage through a table. Yes, it's a table designed to break, but it's not a table secretly made of pillows or something.

When a wrestler bleeds, they're not using fake blood. Most of the time they're taking a little razor blade and actually blading their forehead open. Sometimes **** happens and they do get busted open by accident as well.

While things are put in place to protect the wrestlers' well-being and to try to avoid injuries, these guys get hurt all the time. "Staged" is a much better term for it than "fake" is, because they put their bodies through a hell of a lot, and many of the moves they take are real (albeit scripted, and yes, gone along with).

It's an art form. It takes a great deal of talent to pull it off really well. When these guys truly miss with a punch or something, it stands out like Santino Corleone blatantly missing a punch he throws at Carlo during The Godfather, because most of the time they're not just faking and missing.

As to what appeals, there's good comedy, good action, good storytelling. Wrestling at its best does all of those things extremely well. And then sometimes it's stupid and horrible and sucks, either because the ideas they're executing or bad or the actors are executing their roles badly, or both, but again that's all true of all forms of entertainment.

My favorite part about that HITC fall from Foley was when JR commented if that was staged and he said something like "yeah, that guy knows how to fall, give me a break." Now in truth, giving that Mick Foley has taking a lot of hard bumps in his career, he knows how to prepare himself to get hit with the least impact possible, though it still hurts dearly to him, HITC was an example of that, except for the 2nd bump.

Very well spoken. That makes sense. Thats a pretty sick video of undertaking ****ing that guy up too. Some of those extreme stunts they pull is pretty cool, i'll admit. Thanks for your pov. Sorry if i came off as a hater. Was just trying to understand why the fans are fans
