WCW Spring Stampede 1999 - Wrestling -- Two Plus Two Poker Forums

I don't know if I can't keep up a thread, or even watch the entire show, but I got this on VHS at a local thrift store for fifty cents.

Bobby Heenan (in the wearing glasses era) as one of the commentators.

I have zero memory of this show or the things happening at this time.

Update- mean gene isn't doing the initial intros yet, he tricked me and did an ad for the hotline.

First match-- some cruiserwieght thing where the winner gets a title match tomorrow nite on nitro. Super weird to use the PPV as the lead in match for the free tv championship, but whatever.

Blitzkrieg (?) vs Juventud Guerrero.

Heenan did drop the hater gimmick pretty fast and sold the big spots well, and tried to add psychology elements to this.

That's why he's he GOAT.

They botched a weird top rope spot and Heenan tries to cover for them instead of lolling.

Also, I don't know if the audio on this is real or altered, but crowd seems into it.

Next segment is the lead up to Hak (Sandman) vs Bam Bam Bigelow.

Very curious to see how this plays out. Hak (with chasity) comes out wrapped in barbed wire.

Chasity is billed as Raven's sister. I was a huge raven fan, but don't remember that at all.

BBB comes out with no music pushing a tub of weapons to the ring.

Hak intercepts and we start on the ramp with no bell.

There's an old west stagecoach as part of the props and Hak did a flip off it onto bam bam on a table.

This is the second match! And just the start!

But that's expected based on following two crazy matches with a standard wrestling match.

Konnan vs Disco now.

They're fighting over the quality of Konnan's music video or something.

Konnan out with camo army pants, a football jersey tucked in, sunglasses, and a stocking hat, along with gloves.

I feel like when he says it's for life, it's disingenuous.

Crowd got into his brief sing-a-long schtick though.

Disco out with typical garb, although he also has camo pants.

Konnan calls him a strawberry and the match starts.

Zero interest in this match except right now in 2018, these two are weird frenemies.

Heenan again adding psychology to a match-- Disco has konnan in a rest hold chinlock and he quips "disco's not dumb, he's thinking two, three moves ahead. He knows he's gonna have to let him up at some point and he needs a plan.

...or at least that's what he should be thinking."

Konnan does the stupid rolling lariat, then hits the awkward 187 thing.

Disco kicks out.

These guys are both super slow and it makes everything they do look bad.

Konnan wins with a face slam thing that is apparently disco's finishing move.

Crowd goes mild.

...and I'm tapping out. I'll revisit this at some point in the future.

I should have mentioned this earlier, but part of the allure of watching these older shows is this is before the modern WWE cut-a-wat action cam--

Here, they don't cut that often and they NEVER cut mid-move. It's very refreshing.

Decent match. Crowd all went to their feet when Kidman set up his shooting star press finisher, but Kidman got up and did a frankensteiner off the turnbuckle for the finish.

Awkward end, but whatever.

Will pick up again when I find myself in my kitchen mixing a drink and with a second to play the VHS tape.

Since they're the tag champs, I sure hope that this match was for the cruiser belt.

Seeing the match listing here makes me realize why I'd given up on WCW by this point. Pretty sure the bookers at this point were Sullivan and Dusty. Nash had gotten taken off a month or two prior iirc. I'll wait for your write-up to see what gem we have for the top match.
