My third-round pick:
In September 1993, Vince McMahon and the WWF stripped Shawn Michaels of the Intercontinental title. Michaels then "quit" the company in protest (all of this being a cover for an alleged positive steroids test by Michaels). To fill the vacancy, a 20-man battle royal was held on RAW, with the last two men meeting the following week to decide the title. Razor Ramon and Rick Martel survived, then Razor beat Martel to taste WWF gold for the very first time.
Upon Michaels' return, he continued to promote himself as the IC champ, going so far as to wear a "bogus" belt. He even interfered (unsuccessfully) in the Razor/IRS match at the '94 Rumble. After Razor held onto his belt, it was clear that a Razor-Michaels matchup was in the near future.
The matchup was historical in that it was the first Ladder Match in WrestleMania history. Dave Meltzer gave the match five stars. It won PWI's "Match of the Year" for 1994, and at the time, was one of the top matches in WrestleMania history. And it finally provided closure as the current champion bested the former one in an all-time classic.
With my third pick, I select:
