My second-round pick:
It was October of 1992. I had been following wrestling for just under a year, and was pumped about attending my first live WWF show. Sure, I had ordered WM VIII and SummerSlam '92 on PPV, but I was sure the live event would be much more exciting.
The WWF came to town for a
Superstars taping, and the show itself was memorable for two reasons. First of all, if you've seen the clip where Marty Jannetty hits Sensational Sherri with HBK's heart-shaped mirror, that happened at this taping. Also on the card though, was a WWF title match between Ric Flair and Bret Hart.
Hart was the challenger, having lost the IC strap to Davey Boy Smith at SummerSlam from Wembley Stadium. Flair was in the midst of his second WWF reign, having regained the title from Randy Savage about 6 weeks previous in Hershey, PA. Flair was also "advised" by Mr. Perfect, so as an impressionable 10-year old boy, I certainly thought the deck was stacked against Hart.
The arena itself (Saskatchewan Place/Credit Union Centre) celebrated its 25th anniversary over the weekend, so it is somewhat appropriate I'm selecting this moment now. The arena has hosted numerous concerts, Blades games, World Juniors, and a Memorial Cup (soon to be two). But I wouldn't trade my presence at this moment for anything.
With my second pick and eighteenth overall, I select:
