Whatever, I can't just stop running this thing out of protest, and I don't want to start spite-voting like some idiotic Ms. OOT voter, so here goes: I vote Punk/Cena.
Hahaha, subjective tournament is subjective and you did the draws and seedings.

Didnt 2 of the 3 Flair/Steamboats make it into this round? If you wanted to make sure they did well you should have ran a "Greatest Flair vs Steamboat Wrestling Match of All Time" tournament and just ran a single round 3 way pick'em poll

VCU was a feel-good story...

Yes, and I seeded it against really good matches that it wasn't supposed to beat. But, you know, beer goggles and recency bias and the whole nine yards.

It's okay; I do actually trust this voting pool to do the right thing when Punk/Cena faces off with Savage/Steamboat.

Thing is, I just know that if Flair and Steamboat had simply put on one amazing match that it would be doing great like Savage/Steamboat is, but those greedy bastards went out there and put on three absolutely ****ing epic matches in the span of a year and now people are tired of voting for them in this or something.

It was actually a lot more then three. For example, they worked 2 different house shows on March 18th, and Meltzer seriously gave one match 6 stars (out of 5) and the other 4 3/4.

Quote:
This match was significantly better than their Chicago match (2/20) and deserved something like 5 1/2 to 6 stars as a fair grade. Those in the know were amazed at how good this match was, particularly when they realized they had another match later that night in Philadelphia (which wasn't as good, but was still a fantastic match)

The Martel/Ramon match on Raw was pretty good too, and I watched Wrestlemania X live and was left in awe. Nevertheless,

Cena vs. Punk

What is everyone's obsession with the Steamboat/Savage match? I mean don't get me wrong, it's a good match; but I don't think it would be in my top25 matches of all time. The match itself is only 14minutes on top of it. Aren't the most epic matches usually a little longer than that? Maybe I am missing something but just not seeing it with this match. Maybe someone can enlighten me....

Also, this don't mean I am voting against it, not yet anyway. Still need to rewatch the Savage/Warrior match.

+1 I think it's way overrated. I wouldn't go as far to say it wouldn't be in my top 25, but there are a hand full of matches I would vote for over it.

I mean, I don't think there's a way to enlighten you on it, you're seeing the same action we are. Granted it was a complete game-changer that seemed to be way ahead of its time, but the thing is that almost no matches that followed it have lived up to the new standard it set either (and we're just a couple of months from the 25th anniversary of it).

It was 14 minutes of pure perfection at a really frenetic pace, paired with a hot crowd and great commentary work and the backdrop of WrestleMania...

But if you've viewed it multiple times and can't see its greatness, I doubt anyone saying anything can change your mind on it.

SOUTHEAST REGION SEMIFINAL

#1 SEED: BRET HART VS. OWEN HART (WRESTLEMANIA X)

Whole match: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8pdDHLnTL4Q

Like Savage v. Steamboat, Bret v. Owen is a tremendously strong #1 seed that has only given up a total of one vote in the entire competition to date.

Owen Hart had hung around as a jobber for a few years in the WWF, just a generic babyface who was pushed as the Bret Hart’s little brother. In Survivor Series 1994, the Hart brothers took on Jerry Lawler Shawn Michaels and his knights of the squared circle. Owen was the only one to get eliminated; he blamed Bret and tempers flared. They had a fight but made up, and they decided to team up to try to win the tag titles. At the Royal Rumble, they lost to the Quebecers when Bret Hart could not continue in the match, infuriating Owen to the point that he kicked Bret’s leg out of his leg. This match was the result.

This match, which opened WrestleMania X, is an all-time classic. It is in the race for Bret Hart’s finest match, which obviously says a lot.

VERSUS

#5 SEED: RIC FLAIR VS. TERRY FUNK I QUIT (CLASH OF THE CHAMPIONS ’89)

Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3tbJotyplZM
Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T2Z2Xmz1gLQ

Flair vs. Funk just barely vanquished an awfully strong Austin vs. HHH 2/3 falls match in an OT matchup in the first round. It’s no small brag to have eliminated that match. It then slipped by Flair v. Sting by a narrow margin of two votes. To have gotten here by a grand total of three votes is kind of amazing.

Ric Flair and Terry Funk put on a couple of all-time classics, and this was one of them. It was a world title match and the blowoff to the feud in which one side would have to say “I quit” for the match to end.

VOTING ON THIS MATCH IS NOW OPEN. POLLS WILL CLOSE AT 10:24 A.M. EST ON THURSDAY THE 9TH.

Flair v. Funk couldn't have gotten this far without me voting its way both rounds, evidence that I do love the match, but the opposition has just gotten way too tough this time. Bret/Owen without hesitation.

Can't decide between the other two so I'm gonna pass on that one, not that my vote would make a difference anyway.
