Your tournament bracket for WBM's greatest wrestling matches of all time.

A quick rundown:

1. Voting will take place in this thread from the time a match is posted until its deadline comes up. I will post the first match of the Round of 32 on January 27th. I will start out by giving 48 hour windows, but reserve the right to adjust said windows.

2. The tourney was re-seeded after the first round to reflect what appeared to be the relative strengths of these matches. Once the first match of this round is posted, the bracket is locked for the duration of the tourney. If you don't like where I seeded a match...sorry, I can't please all the people all the time. I did my best and I think the final result is pretty damn good.

2. Voters must have 100 posts on 2p2 (these posts can be on any forum; whatever. I just don't want gimmicks swinging the vote is all).

3. Voters are strongly asked to have watched both matches at least at some point before casting a vote. These matches are almost all awesome, so I'm not asking you to do something that sucks. But obviously if you vote without watching then nobody will ever know, so it's not like this is an enforceable rule. But if your name is anguyen then at least stop announcing that you haven't watched both when you vote.

4. Advocacy for the side you take is perfectly welcome and even encouraged. And if the occasional hot Alison Brie gif slips in, I don't think that will hurt anyone either.

5. I will just post the links to the videos in my write-ups, because (a) too many embeds slows page-loading down for lots of people and (b) some matches are only available on DailyMotion, and I'm not sure that those can be embedded.

HBK is featured in 8 of the remaining matches, keeping up his pace of comprising a quarter of the field. Also he did appear in Royal Rumble '92, though he wasn't a big player in it.

Bret Hart is also featured in seven of the remaining matches.

Ric Flair is featured in 6 of the remaining matches, holding his own right behind Michaels. You could pretty easily argue that the number is really 7, because Royal Rumble '92 is most certainly a Flair match rather than just a match he was included in.

Haha no need to be that sorry, that line in the OP was meant to be funny.

Also, its pretty cool that in two of those matches, its either a HBK match vs HBK match or a Flair match vs a Flair match.

I havent followed too closely but think you should have just kept the brackets as is after the first round

Okay everything's set up to start tomorrow. I have to go to bed, but I'll post the first matchup from work in the morning/mid-morning.

I'll update the links in the spreadsheet for the second round matches later; I put the first couple up just so everything is set to go when I fire up the first match.

I think the brackets are pretty much perfect. There are a few compelling match-ups this round like Bret/Perfect vs TLC 2, Flair/Sting vs Funk/Flair, and a couple others.

Way more balance now. I think the northeast bracket is the strongest, but it's not by miles like the southeast was during the first round (and sure enough, the southeast last round was home to what are now two #1's, a #2, #3, and two #4's). I'm happy with how this looks.

I think HBK/Bret v. Taker/Mankind is a pretty good sweat this round also.

Frankly HBK/Bret should win that one in a landslide.

If I put all 16 of my votes here now, would that be cool?

I'd be surprised if Taker/Mankind gets a vote and I'm not a huge fan of HBK/Bret.

I might vote for Taker/Mankind because quite frankly, HBK/Bret bores me in the middle parts, imo and I know Taker/Mankind is a tale of two spots and thumbtacks bumping in the end but still.

kinda quit watching/voting bout 1/3 way thru first round, but hopefully will follow the 2nd round more closely and vote/watch each match. i should just let my bro do my voting, as he's seen 90% of the matches and owns like 50% of them on dvds. i think he even followed the thread throughout and he aint even a 2+2 member...

I just think there are people out there who find HBK/Bret dull. I am not among them. It has my vote in that matchup.

I mean you're completely welcome to post who you plan on voting for up front, but I'm not going to register advance votes for the matchups; I'll only register votes while a match is live. NORTHEAST REGION MATCHUP #1

#2 SEED: HHH VS. CHRIS BENOIT VS. SHAWN MICHAELS (WRESTLEMANIA XX)

This matchup took out a Dean Malenko vs. Rey Mysterio classic convincingly in the first round, skyrocketing its status from a #8 seed all the way up to a #2.

Triple H came in as the champion and was in a blood feud with Shawn Michaels. Chris Benoit had won the 2004 Royal Rumble. There was really no better way to legitimize Chris Benoit as a true superstar. Also, the aftermath segment of this match might make moorobot wretch, but I think most of the rest of us think it’s pretty awesome.

#7 SEED: HART FOUNDATION VS. STEVE AUSTIN, KEN SHAMROCK, GOLDUST AND LOD (CANADIAN STAMPEDE)

Possibly the greatest 10-man tag in wrestling history dispatched of Rocky vs. Kurt Angle in the first round without any problems. It held steady as a #7 seed.

If this were a “matches with hottest crowds” tournament, this match would be a 1 or 2 seed. The anti-American Hart Foundation stable was wrestling up north of the border, where they were massively over babyfaces, to take on a team of American babyfaces that were massively hated heels in Canada. If you’re a mark for the Hart family, this match is heaven. It was a great angle with great heat, and Steve Austin honestly hardly ever got booed this loudly when he actually turned heel.

I'm initially inclined to throw a futile vote in the direction of the 10-man, but I'm going to try rewatching the triple threat match tonight before doing so just so I can finally figure out what the BFD is about it. (I've seen it twice. Disagreed with making it a 2 seed, but the support seemed to be clearly there, so here we are.)

HHH/Benoit/Michaels not close IMO.

HBK/HHH/Beoit, I love the 10 man but that triple threat is too good not to vote for.
